On our wedding anniversary,my husband and I had planned to take time off and celebrate together.But he claimed he had a business trip and went to the emergency room with his first love.

He was fully aware that Athena had once humiliated me,yet he still stood with her.What value did our marriage hold for him?

I remembered the look of pain on Marcus’s face when I once revealed my wounds.

And now,he faced me with sarcasm and no interest in me.

I steadied my face and called my father.

“Dad,I’m pregnant.I’m going to leave the father and keep the baby!”

However,after I truly walked away,Marcus knelt and pleaded for me to come back.

In the past,my father had been against my wedding to Marcus.It was Marcus who knelt at our doorstep for three days and nights before my father unwillingly agreed.

He had forced Marcus to vow that if he disappointed me,he would never be allowed to see me again.

Marcus’s loving eyes and the way he made that vow still stayed in front of me.

But now…I spoke hoarsely,“He cheated.My child and I don’t want him anymore.”

For a short time,the line went quiet on the other side.My father responded with agreement and only told me to finish the divorce process first.

I was ready to walk away when Athena slowly spoke,“Leaving so soon?Did you clearly hear what Marcus just said?You know now who Marcus really loves in his heart,don’t you?”

I mocked and shot back,“Are you so short of men?Your husband just passed away,and you’re already eyeing another woman’s husband,shaming yourself!”

Athena’s eyebrows arched with anger.“You have the nerve to say that to me?You’re merely a stupid woman who couldn’t even keep her husband.Just wait!”

While speaking,she lifted her hand and tried to slap me.

I caught her wrist and coldly slapped her in return.

Athena took a heavy slap and fell onto the floor.She looked at me with anger.

She was about to get up when she noticed something.In the next moment,tears welled in her eyes as she faced me and sobbed.

“Little sister-in-law,please don’t hit me again.I truly know I was wrong.I was only careless and didn’t feel well,so I asked Marcus to take me to the emergency room.I’ll leave right away.”

As she spoke,she stumbled as if she were trying to stand up.

Before I realized what Athena was planning,she suddenly fell backward.

“Be careful!”

Marcus’s voice broke out.With an anxious look,he caught Athena and held her tightly in his arms.

When he turned to look at me,his eyes were extremely cold.

“Savannah Yates,what are you doing?Aren’t you a doctor?How can you raise your hand against your patient?Where are your medical ethics?”

I looked at him,my eyes reddened,but I refused to appear weak.

“Marcus,weren’t you supposed to leave for a business trip today?Why are you with Athena?”

I kept that final line to myself,though my eyes showed the pain.

Marcus frowned deeply and said with displeasure,“I only think Athena is miserable.How can you feel jealous over something like this?”

After that,he looked at the crying Athena Cabrera,his expression turning dark.

“You beat her over your own guess.She’s still a patient!”

After he talked,Marcus gently set Athena in an emergency ward.

Then he shoved me into the ward and spoke plainly,"You look after Athena and see it as making up for it."

He pushed me so hard that I struck the sharp edge of the bed.Red blood spread through my clothes,but Marcus did not even look at me.

In earlier days,even a small injury on my hand made him very worried.

I kept the ache in my heart inside and clenched my teeth.“What if I refuse?”

Marcus’s face immediately turned dark.He cautioned,"You are a medical doctor.You hold the duty to treat Athena.If you are not a medical doctor,then you do not need to help her."

When he finished,he glanced at my license meaningfully.

I looked at him in disbelief,surprised that Marcus would say such a thing.

He knew very well how much my work as a doctor meant to me.

I dropped my gaze so Marcus would not see the feelings in my eyes.

Marcus laughed softly.“Savannah,you are making a scene again.As long as you fix Athena,I'll buy you whatever you like.”

I pulled out the divorce papers I had printed in my office and passed them to Marcus.

He was just going to turn it open when Athena,beside him,suddenly grabbed her belly and groaned,“Marcus,it hurts so much.”

Seeing that,Marcus held her close and said with concern,“I asked Savannah to treat you at once.”

After he spoke,he prepared to take Athena into the operating room.

I stepped forward and blocked their path.“Sign it first,then operate.”

Marcus stared at me in anger and said with disappointment,“Savannah,the patient is right before you,and you are still counting money.Did a villa and jewelry sell your medical morals?You really make me disappointed.”

I stood there unmoving,listening to Marcus’s blame,my heart slowly becoming cold.

When he realized I would not move,Marcus signed the contract without looking at it,as Athena groaned in pain next to him.

Marcus believed I only wanted villas and jewelry,but he did not know that this time,what I was buying was our marriage.
