When I got back to the villa,it was already very late.Before I stepped inside,I heard Athena’s soft giggle.
“Marcus,what if Savannah refuses to let me stay here?I don’t want you to argue because of me.Maybe I should…”
Marcus held her close and gently soothed her.“She is not the owner of this house.She pushed you and caused your injury.No matter what happens,I let you live here.”
Marcus truly brought Athena back to the house.
I closed my fist tightly,wanting to force Athena out.
But I suddenly understood that I was no longer the woman in this villa.
I had already gone through a divorce with Marcus.
A heavy,helpless feeling covered my whole body.I could not say anything and planned to walk straight upstairs.
Marcus saw that I was back and sounded upset.
“Where have you been?I already told the hospital to stop your work.Why are you still walking around outside?”
After saying that,he didn’t wait for my answer.He pulled me in front of Athena and spoke firmly,“Apologize to Athena.During this time,you do not have to return to the hospital.Stay and look after Athena as your way of making up for it.”
“When she regains her health,I allow you to go back to the hospital.”
He looked clearly impatient,as if it was only natural for me to take care of Athena.
I could not stop thinking about Marcus from before.
He once told me he loved the way I did my job.
He said he fell in love with me because I saved people and treated the injured.He was willing to stand behind me so I could go further in my career.
But now,for another woman,he destroyed my wings.
Seeing the pale red marks beneath Marcus’s neck,my heart ached until I almost could not breathe.
At last,I spoke in a hoarse tone,“I will not apologize to Athena.I am not the one who is wrong.You are the one who has no shame.”
“Athena’s husband just died,and you rushed to bring her into this house.Marcus,you broke the promise between us for this worthless woman!”
The moment my words ended,Marcus slapped me hard across the face.
I never imagined he would raise his hand against me.Unprepared,I fell to the ground,my stomach hitting the floor hard,and the pain made me suck in air.
When Marcus noticed my sorry state,he stopped briefly,and worry showed in his eyes.
He reached out,trying to lift me up.
At that moment,Athena,beside him,stood and said pitifully,“Savannah,Marcus brought me home only because he thought I was helpless.Since you mind it so much,I will leave.”
That was always her usual trick.The more I stared at her face,the more disgust grew inside me.
Holding back the pain under me,I lifted my hand to slap her,but Marcus caught my wrist tightly.
“Savannah,are you out of your mind?”Marcus’s face turned dark,and his eyes showed anger.
“Whether you accept it or not today,Athena will stay here.This is my villa.If you keep causing problems,then leave!”
When I looked into his cold and distant eyes,I both cried and laughed.
The ache in my lower belly grew stronger and stronger.I crouched down,trying to grab onto something for support.
Seeing how pitiful I looked,Marcus stepped in front of Athena and shielded her,gently soothing her,while looking at me with disgust.
He turned and told the bodyguards,“Lock my wife in the basement.When she comes to her senses,then release her.”
After he said that,he turned around and prepared to walk away.
I pressed my hand to my lower body that was already bleeding,my face showing fear.
“Marcus!You must not do this.I’m preg….”
Before I could finish speaking,Athena looked at me mockingly.
“Savannah,are you making up a pregnancy to soften Marcus’s heart?”
I was about to explain when I saw Marcus’s brows pulled tight.
He did not believe a word.
When I understood this,my heart went cold.
But thinking about the baby in my belly,I said in a rough voice,“Marcus,let me out,or you will surely regret it.”
Marcus watched me with cold eyes and said with displeasure,“Savannah,you even use a child as a reason.It looks like you truly need to stay inside and reflect.”
Right after that,the bodyguards threw me into the basement without mercy.
I held onto the door tightly,but I was still no match for the guards’strength.
Just before the door slammed shut,I heard Athena’s fake concern.
“Marcus,what if Savannah is truly pregnant?”
Marcus answered in a cold voice,“It doesn’t matter,it’s only a child.”
When I heard that,all my strength left me.Tears fell from my eyes as I let myself sink into the dark.
