Chapter 1 of Planning My Divorce: Goodbye, Devil Husband

My husband was inhumane. It was his first love who bit him.

Not only did he not blame her, but he also wanted to divorce me instead.

"Let's get a divorce. I've always loved her."

With my due date approaching, I signed the divorce papers with a swollen belly, tears streaming down my face, but there wasn't a trace of sadness in my heart.

Our marriage had always been a transaction, and I only cared about how much I could take from it.

1

My husband, Oscar Jones, was in a car accident.

Upon hearing the news, I rushed to the hospital, heavily pregnant with our nine-month-old baby, only to be met with an awkward expression from the doctor. He informed me that my husband had been bitten, down there, and might never be able to function as a man again.

When I entered the hospital room, I found out that my husband had been in the accident with his first love, Sarah Foster, who came from another wealthy family.

Even seeing these two disgusting people snuggled up on the hospital bed, I still played the role of a dutiful wife, rushing to Oscar in concern.

"Oscar, are you okay? The doctor told me...that... down there... you were bitten."

Oscar's face immediately turned cold when he saw me enter the room.

"Diana Smith, let's get a divorce. I never loved you."

I turned pale, my hands trembling as they rested on my pregnant belly. "We've been together since university, dating for four years and married for five. I'm 37 weeks pregnant, Oscar. It won't be long before our child is born. Do you really want the baby to be fatherless from birth?"

Seeing my large, rounded belly, a flicker of hesitation crossed Oscar's face, but it quickly disappeared as soon as Sarah pinched him lightly, and he spoke again with resolve. "Diana, my marriage to you was nothing more than a way to spite Sarah. The only person I've ever loved has always been her."

As he spoke, he pulled Sarah closer.

She tilted her head up and kissed him affectionately.

They still looked as sweet as they did when they were high school sweethearts.

Back then, I had been a servant in the Foster family, serving as Sarah's study companion. Whenever they were intimate, I was assigned to watch out for teachers or parents.

And now, I am Mrs. Jones, the wife of Oscar, the only son of the Jones family. Yet, they still treated me like air, brazenly kissing in front of me as if I were invisible.

They had always seen me as nothing more than a lowly maid.

But I didn't care about that.

I only cared about my daughter in my belly and how much money I could get from the divorce!

2

My father was a con artist. He was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment when I was in middle school.

When I graduated from middle school, my mother sold me to the Foster family, hoping to bribe my brother's principal to prevent him from being expelled.

Ten thousand dollars a year. I was sold for three years.

At that time, I was the top scorer in the city's entrance exams, but because my mother refused to pay my tuition, I couldn't even attend high school.

However, because of my academic achievements, I was chosen by Sarah to be her study companion, allowing me to receive a high-quality education at an elite school.

At first, I was deeply grateful to Sarah, until one day she asked me, "Do you know why I chose you?"

I tentatively answered, "Because I have good grades, right?"

"What's the use of good grades? Aren't you still here to serve me?"

Miss Foster arrogantly patted my cheek.

"Because your dad is a con artist! Because your family is dirt poor! Your worthless life is only worth ten thousand a year. I can throw out some spare change, and you'll obediently follow my orders."

My dignity was crushed under her mockery.

But I remained humble and respectful.

Because I didn't even have the right to be angry.

All I could do was study harder, which was why I desperately needed to maintain my position as her study companion.

Ten thousand dollars for big exams, five thousand for smaller ones.

That was the price Sarah set for me to take her exams.

All I had to do was write her name on my answer sheet.

As a result, Sarah became known as the genius who never studied yet always ranked first, while I never had any results because she never bothered to write my lowly name on her answer sheet.

In those three years, while Sarah and Oscar were deeply in love, I used the money I earned from taking her exams to study furiously. Finally, in the decisive college entrance exam, for the first time since entering high school, I wrote my own name on the test paper. I was admitted to B University with the highest score in the entire province.

3

A sharp kick from my baby pulled me back from my memories.

I instinctively clutched my belly, groaning in pain, interrupting the two people who were kissing in front of me.

Sarah tilted her chin, looking at me with the same arrogance she had back then.

"You've taken good care of Oscar these past nine years. Well done, my family's servant."

"Your original price was ten thousand dollars a year. I'll give you ten times that amount—nine hundred thousand. Now leave, you're no longer needed here."

Tears uncontrollably streamed down my face, and this time, it wasn't an act. The kick from my daughter had been so strong that the pain in my belly was unbearable, and I hadn't recovered yet.

Maybe it was my pitiful tears, or maybe it was the fact that after nine years together, even a dog would have some feelings.

Oscar sighed. "Go home. The divorce papers will be sent to you soon. Even though we're divorcing, I won't leave you empty-handed after all these years."

Wiping my tears, I choked out, "Then, I'll leave Oscar in Miss Foster's care."

As soon as I left the hospital, I dried my tears.

I had been with Oscar for nine years.

Nine years ago, I got into B University, while Sarah, who didn't even take the college entrance exam, was sent to study abroad in France by her furious family. Oscar, with his mediocre grades, got into a prestigious university through his family's wealth.

At first, their long-distance relationship seemed stable, but within a month, they were constantly arguing. Both too proud to compromise, they eventually broke up when Sarah sent Oscar a photo of herself attending a sex party in France.

In the photo, she lay naked between two white men, provocatively staring at the camera, as if showing off their masculinity to Oscar.

Not to be outdone, Oscar replied with a bed photo of his own.

The man in that photo was, of course, Oscar. And the woman was me.

I will never forget what he said to me that day.

"Do you know why I chose you?"

Such a familiar question, but I didn't want to answer it this time.

"Because you're her family's servant. Because you're the dog she despises the most. You're also the one who caused her to go abroad."

"I want her to know that even someone as lowly as you can replace her!"

I still didn't have the right to be angry.

Even though I had made it into B University, in the eyes of people like Oscar, I was still nothing but an ant.

But Oscar was my ticket into the elite world, and I had to hold on to him tightly.

That night, I went to bed with Oscar, and he took the photo that he used to provoke Sarah.

With my belly swollen and heavy, I glanced back at the hospital. On that bed were two people: one who had indulged in promiscuity overseas and could no longer have children, and the other, who after waiting nine years for love, was now impotent, thanks to a bite. What a perfect pair. I wondered if Sarah had bitten him on purpose.

4

Three days later, the divorce papers arrived.

Sarah clung to Oscar's arm, watching with a smug smile as I was kicked out of the house.

With tear-streaked eyes, I asked him in a trembling voice, "Oscar, we've been married for five years. I gave you all my love, took care of your parents, and even carried your child. Have you really never loved me, not even once?"

Oscar glanced guiltily at Sarah before handing me a pen. "If you really love me, you'll sign the divorce papers. I'm going to marry Sarah. She's my true happiness."

Thinking about how he could never experience "happiness" again, I quickly lowered my head to hide my laughter, pretending to sob as I signed my name.

I had waited five years for this divorce.

Five years ago, I graduated from university.

During my four years in college, Oscar had bought my time with two hundred thousand dollars. While I played the role of his girlfriend, I used his money to study like mad.

In those four years, I earned two degrees and became fluent in English, French, German, and Spanish. I became the top student everyone envied.

Just when I was torn between continuing my studies or finding a job, Oscar came to me.

After breaking up with Sarah, he had been with at least four or five women—models, internet celebrities, even actresses—so he rarely contacted me.

This time, it had been three months since I'd heard from him. I thought he had grown tired of this game, but it turned out he had gone to France to find his long-lost first love, Sarah.

When I saw him again, he was noticeably thinner, but his eyes were filled with anger and hatred.

Sarah had married into French royalty, a level of status even the wealthy Jones family could never reach.

"Diana, marry me. Even though I don't love you."

"You're the daughter of a con artist. Do you know what would happen if your past were exposed? No company would hire the daughter of a criminal, even if you're a top student from B University."

"Marry me, and it'll be a transaction. I can make you a wealthy, prestigious lady like Sarah!"

"I'll make her know that she means nothing to me!"

I never dreamed of a romantic proposal, but I also never expected my marriage to be a tool for my husband's revenge against another woman.

But I agreed.

As a wealthy woman, my new price was five hundred thousand dollars a month.

On the day of our wedding, I truly felt that I had entered the elite class. But when it came time to exchange rings, my mother and brother showed up, pulling me back down to reality.

My identity as the daughter of a con artist spread throughout the elite circles, making the Jones family a laughingstock.

In a fit of rage, the Jones family threw my mother and brother into the southwestern borderlands.

And now, with news of my divorce spreading, the Jones family was once again the butt of jokes in the upper class.

Oscar, too, became the center of attention, as everyone learned about the infamous playboy heir who, after waiting nine years for love, ended up getting bitten by his first love and rendered impotent.

5

Never in a million years did I expect that after the news of my divorce with Oscar spread through the elite circles, my in-laws would be the last to find out.

They had been eagerly awaiting the birth of their granddaughter, having already purchased numerous baby supplies and meticulously planned out her future. But their joy was short-lived when they learned about their son's and daughter-in-law's divorce.

When my mother-in-law heard the whole story, she grasped my hand, saying, "Dear Diana, you are carrying the Jones family's child. You're a hero to this family, so don't be afraid. I'll ensure justice is served."

With one month left in the divorce cooling-off period, I was terrified something might go wrong and quickly stopped her.

"Mother-in-law, I understand. Oscar and Miss Foster are truly in love, and I've always just been a stand-in for her. He has never loved me."

"I've given up. I hope Oscar finds true happiness."

"Please, mother-in-law, let him go as well."

Upon hearing these words, my kind and gentle mother-in-law's face turned cold. "That wretched woman dares to enter my Jones family? A woman who can't even bear children — what kind of woman is that? After being discarded by the French royalty, she thinks she can use my son as a backup plan, don't she?"

It seemed my mother-in-law had done her research on Sarah. After all, her information was easily accessible, even to me.

The main reason behind my mother-in-law's fury, however, was that Sarah had rendered Oscar impotent.

"The Foster family has hurt my son. They will pay for this!"

Watching the former business powerhouse leave, I breathed a long sigh of relief. The pressure she exerted was suffocating, and I feared she might see through my performance.

When I first married into the Jones family, my mother-in-law despised me, mainly because I came from humble beginnings and was the daughter of a convicted fraudster. My status in the Jones household was lower than even that of the servants.

But I never harbored any resentment. After all, I married into the Jones family for its wealth, connections, and status.

After entering the family, I woke up every day at 5 a.m., quietly cleaning the house and preparing breakfast like a diligent maid. Once the family woke up, I would greet them one by one, playing the role of a virtuous wife and dutiful daughter-in-law. I accompanied Oscar to work, handling not only the company's affairs but also his many extramarital affairs. In those moments, I became his loyal secretary.

Oscar was a good-for-nothing, spoiled young master. How could he possibly manage the Jones Group? Standing behind him, I cleaned up his messes time and again, consolidating power within the company so he could smoothly take over. Only then did my in-laws truly begin to acknowledge me. And once I became pregnant with Oscar's child, my status rose even further.

I gently stroked my belly, knowing the due date was near. My child would soon be born. The thought of holding my little one in my arms made me want to accelerate my plans.

I opened the wardrobe and let out Sarah, who had been hiding inside for quite some time.

"Miss Foster, they're gone now. Shouldn't we settle the rest of our deal?"
