After Giving Birth to the Child, My Husband and I Divorced Quickly

In my first month of pregnancy, a fortune teller said I was carrying a girl.

My mother-in-law insisted I get an abortion.

I refused, and my husband backed me up, saying a girl would still be our child.

Eight months later, I slipped and fell while I was home alone and ended up in the hospital.

That was when I ran into my husband, who was supposed to be on a business trip, and my mother-in-law, who had supposedly gone back to her hometown…

Sara Lawson, my bestie, waved her hand in front of my face.

"The doctor said, luckily, it's nothing serious this time. But seriously, what was Dexter thinking, leaving a pregnant woman alone at home?"

"Sara, I just saw Dexter and his mom."

"What?" Sara still hadn't processed what I said.

I told her about how I saw Dexter and his mom right outside the doctor's office.

Sara froze for a moment, then grabbed a mask and hat and rushed out.

She came back in less than ten minutes, her brows furrowed, eyes burning with anger, and lips pressed tightly together.

She chugged down a bottle of water before handing me her phone.

I took it and pressed play. The video showed Dexter washing the feet of a pregnant woman while his mom peeled fruit beside them.

I recognized the woman instantly. It was Elsa Wilder, Dexter's childhood friend.

The warmth and happiness radiating from the three of them was unmistakable, even in the short ten-second clip.

"Why… why would he do this to me?"

My chest heaved as I struggled to get the words out.

"Rachel! You're bleeding!"

"Doctor… doctor…"

It wasn't until Sara shouted that I realized I was spotting.

The doctor said the baby was already unstable, and my emotions had pushed things over the edge. I needed an emergency C-section.

As they wheeled me toward the operating room, I called Dexter and told him I was about to give birth and that he needed to come sign the consent forms.

Dexter hesitated for a moment before awkwardly saying, "Babe, I really can't leave right now. I have another meeting coming up. I'll be back tomorrow, okay?"

I hung up without a word.

In the end, my parents had to rush over to sign the forms.

I gave birth to a baby girl, but since she was premature, she had to stay in an incubator for a few days.

When I was out of the OR, I told Sara, "I'm getting a divorce.

"Help me find a private investigator. I want Dexter to lose everything."
