After My Husband Fired Me, I Became His Rival's Partner

The morning light glinted off the glass facade of the Price Enterprises building as I strode across the marble lobby in my charcoal Armani suit. The click of my heels echoed confidently with each step, a rhythm I'd perfected over years of being the company's invisible backbone. Today was different. Today was bonus day—the one time each year when results couldn't be hidden behind corporate politics or flashy presentations. I smoothed my hands over the tailored suit, mentally rehearsing the brief acceptance speech I'd prepared for the "Top Sales Champion" award. For the fifth consecutive year, I'd single-handedly secured over sixty percent of the company's revenue. Not that anyone besides the accounting department and Ethan knew this. My husband had always insisted I maintain a low profile, claiming it was strategic for negotiations if clients underestimated us. "Good morning, Ms. Jenkins," the receptionist called, her smile genuine but tinged with something I couldn't quite place.

Chapter 1 of After My Husband Fired Me, I Became His Rival's Partner

Pity? Nervousness?

"Morning, Diane," I replied, checking my watch. I was precisely on time—8:45 AM for the 9:00 AM ceremony.

The elevator ride to the executive floor was filled with colleagues I barely knew, all buzzing with anticipation about their year-end bonuses. I smiled politely, maintaining the professional distance I'd cultivated for years. None of them knew I was married to the CEO. None of them knew I was responsible for the generous checks they were about to receive.

The conference room was already packed when I arrived. I slipped into a seat near the back, preferring to observe rather than be observed. Ethan stood at the podium looking immaculate in his navy Tom Ford suit, his confident smile revealing nothing of our argument from the night before. He'd come home late again, smelling of unfamiliar perfume, brushing off my questions with vague explanations about client dinners.

"Welcome, everyone, to our annual awards ceremony," Ethan began, his voice carrying that practiced charisma that had first attracted me to him. "Before we distribute the bonuses, I'd like to recognize some outstanding achievements from the past year."

My phone buzzed with a text from an unknown number: "Check your email now." I frowned, ignoring it. Whatever it was could wait fifteen minutes.

"First, I'd like to recognize our marketing team for their exceptional campaign..." Ethan continued, working through the standard acknowledgments.

I felt a shift in the room's energy before I heard the click of heels approaching the podium. A statuesque blonde in a red dress that was just a shade too tight for a professional setting strode purposefully toward Ethan. The room fell silent.

"I'm sorry to interrupt, Ethan," she said, her voice carrying a sweetness that didn't reach her eyes, "but I think there's an announcement we should make before proceeding."

Ethan's expression flickered—not with surprise, but with anticipation. My stomach tightened.

"Of course, Victoria," he replied, stepping aside to give her the microphone.

Victoria Stone. The new sales director hired three months ago whom I'd met exactly twice. She turned to face the room, her gaze finding mine with laser precision.

"I regret to inform everyone that effective immediately, Rachel Jenkins is being terminated from Price Enterprises."

A collective gasp rippled through the room. I sat frozen, my mind racing to process her words.

"The board has determined that Ms. Jenkins' poor team spirit and creation of a toxic work environment are detrimental to our company culture," Victoria continued, a smug smile playing at her lips.

I stood, my legs steadier than I expected. "That's absurd. I've broken every sales record this company has. I demand an explanation."

Victoria's smile widened. "The explanation is simple. I'm the company's future executive partner, and there's no room for your... outdated methods."

I looked to Ethan, waiting for him to step in, to correct this obvious mistake. Instead, he stepped forward with a folder in his hand.

"Rachel," he said, his voice now cold and formal, "our marriage certificate contained certain legal provisions you apparently didn't read carefully. Similarly, your company shares were structured through a holding company that, as of this morning, has been dissolved."

He opened the folder, revealing documents with my signature—signatures I'd trusted him to explain correctly. "In simpler terms," he continued, "you own nothing. You are nothing to this company."

Two security guards appeared at my sides. On the conference table before me, someone placed a single envelope—the deed to the small downtown condo Ethan had insisted we keep as an investment property.

"Your severance," Victoria said with mock generosity.

As the guards escorted me toward the elevator, I caught a glimpse of the reception area. There, piled unceremoniously, were my personal belongings—including the framed photos of my sales awards, their glass now shattered across the marble floor.

After He Chose His Mistress I Became His Rival's Star
As my client was getting a little too friendly, Nasir Bradley was enjoying a glass of wine with his assistant nearby. Trying to keep the client happy, I ended up drinking more than I should have and felt on the verge of passing out. Yet Nasir didn’t so much as glance at me; he was too busy picking the olives out of his assistant’s dish, encouraging her to eat. After dinner, the assistant remarked that it had been dull, which was all Nasir needed to hear before pulling over and practically pushing me out of the car to take her to the next event. “This young lady has been working hard lately; I'm just taking her out for some fun,” Nasir said dismissively. “You probably wouldn't understand what the younger crowd is into these days, so it’s best if you don’t come along. Besides, I’m going to make sure she has a great time tonight; we can talk about the marriage license another time.” For five years, Nasir had canceled our wedding plans ninety-nine times. I nodded. If he was always busy, there was really no point in going through with it. From the slightly open passenger window, Leah Palmer stuck out her tongue apologetically, "Sorry, Christina, Nasir's just spoiling me a bit.
