The headlights cut through the pre-dawn darkness as I pressed harder on the accelerator, my heart racing with anticipation. Three days early—Nathaniel would never expect me back from the territorial inspection until tomorrow evening. The surprise would be perfect, especially with the news I'd been dying to share but wanted to confirm first. My wolf, Celeste, stirred restlessly within me, her excitement matching my own. *He'll be so happy,* she whispered in my mind. *Finally, after all these years.* Five years. Five long years of trying, of hoping, of monthly disappointments that had slowly eroded the joy from our mate bond. But now... I pressed my hand against my still-flat stomach, where the faintest flutter of new life had begun to make itself known. The timing couldn't be more perfect—just days before the annual Mate Ceremony celebration, when the entire pack would gather to honor the sacred bonds blessed by the Moon Goddess.

Chapter 1 of Rejected by the Alpha, Claimed by the King

The headlights cut through the pre-dawn darkness as I pressed harder on the accelerator, my heart racing with anticipation. Three days early—Nathaniel would never expect me back from the territorial inspection until tomorrow evening. The surprise would be perfect, especially with the news I'd been dying to share but wanted to confirm first.

My wolf, Celeste, stirred restlessly within me, her excitement matching my own. *He'll be so happy,* she whispered in my mind. *Finally, after all these years.*

Five years.

The Moonstone Pack territory stretched out before me in the darkness, familiar and comforting. Home. I'd left the border patrol three days ago to conduct the eastern territory inspection, a routine Luna duty that had become more frequent as tensions with neighboring packs increased. But tonight, nothing could dampen my spirits. Not even the exhaustion that pulled at my bones from the long drive.

As I pulled into the circular drive of the pack house, the grand stone structure loomed against the starlit sky, most windows dark at this early hour. Only a few security lights illuminated the entrance, casting long shadows across the manicured grounds. Perfect—I could slip inside, maybe prepare breakfast for Nathaniel, and surprise him with both my early return and the news that would change everything.

I was barely out of the car when the urgent mind-link hit me like a physical blow.

*Luna Dana,* came the strained voice of Marcus, one of our border patrol guards. *We have a situation at the eastern perimeter. Suspicious rogue activity detected. Multiple scents, possibly a scouting party.*

My stomach dropped. Rogue wolves near our territory meant potential danger to the pack, especially with the Mate Ceremony approaching when our defenses would be focused inward on celebration rather than external threats.

*I'm en route,* I replied through the mind-link, already moving toward the pack house to gather additional patrol members. *Maintain surveillance but do not engage until I arrive.*

As Luna, my enhanced senses were crucial for identifying and tracking potential threats. The safety of the pack always came first, even when my personal desires pulled me in another direction. Nathaniel would understand—he always did when pack duties interrupted our plans.

I approached the pack house with purpose, my Luna instincts sharpening as I prepared to coordinate the response to this potential threat. But as I neared the entrance, something made me pause. A scent carried on the night breeze—familiar, yet wrong somehow.

Nathaniel's scent, rich and woodsy with undertones of cedar and rain. But there was something else woven through it, something that made Celeste suddenly alert within me. Another scent, floral and sweet, distinctly feminine. Not mine.

*That's not right,* Celeste murmured, her earlier excitement fading into confusion. *Why would another she-wolf's scent be so... intertwined with his?*

I followed the scent trail almost unconsciously, my enhanced Luna senses tracking the intermingled aromas with growing unease. The trail led not toward the eastern perimeter where the rogue threat supposedly waited, but directly toward the pack house. More specifically, toward the Alpha's private wing.

My steps slowed as the implications began to sink in. The border patrol alert, the suspicious timing, the way the scents seemed to dance together in the air—intimate, familiar, wrong.

*Dana,* Celeste's voice was barely a whisper now. *I don't think there are any rogues at the eastern border.*

The scent trail grew stronger as I approached the private entrance to Nathaniel's quarters, the one reserved for Alpha business and our most intimate moments. My hand trembled slightly as I reached for the door handle, my Luna authority automatically granting me access to any area of pack territory.

The floral scent hit me full force as the door opened—sweet jasmine mixed with something earthier, more primal. Anahi Martinez. One of our pack members, a recent addition whose credentials I'd personally reviewed and approved.

But why would her scent be here, in our private sanctuary, mixed so intimately with my mate's that they seemed to breathe as one?

Celeste whimpered softly in my mind, and suddenly I understood. The border alert had been a distraction, a way to ensure I wouldn't return to the pack house unexpectedly. But I had returned, three days early, and now...

I moved through the familiar hallway on silent feet, my Luna training allowing me to approach without detection. The scents grew stronger with each step, and beneath them, I caught something else—the unmistakable musk of arousal, of bodies intertwined in passion.

My heart hammered against my ribs as I reached the door to our bedroom, the sanctuary where Nathaniel and I had spent countless nights trying to create the very life that now grew within me. Through the slightly open door, I could see the soft glow of candlelight, hear the whisper of fabric against skin.

And then I saw them.

Nathaniel, my mate of five years, the Alpha I'd devoted my life to supporting, was wrapped in an intimate embrace with Anahi Martinez on our bed. The bed where we'd made love, where we'd cried together over failed attempts at conception, where we'd dreamed of the family we'd finally created.

Celeste's joyful whimper about our pregnancy echoed in my mind even as my world shattered around me, the cruel irony of the moment cutting deeper than any physical wound ever could.

No Water Like the Sea
No Water Like the Sea
"Donna, have you lost your goddamn mind? Who told you to go near Grace?" After Donna had Robert's beloved, unattainable ideal blacklisted and sent abroad, he completely snapped. "You're hurting me..." Trying to pull her hand back, Donna found Robert's gaze fixed on her, his eyes bloodshot with fury. He didn't let go—instead, he tightened his grip. "Hurt? You think you know what hurt feels like? Grace slit her wrists, and you still arranged to have her sent away? Did you ever stop to consider her pain?" "Tell me, what did you say to her the last time you met?" Pain paled Donna's face, yet a stubborn defiance hardened within. Fighting to keep the tears at bay, she refused to show vulnerability and glared back at Robert without flinching. "What does her life or death have to do with me? Or with you!? I'm the one you're about to marry!" "Oh, wonderful. The future Mrs. Robert. Is that it? Donna, you're just counting on me having no choice but to marry you, aren't you? You think a piece of paper can trap me?" "Hah, looks like I've spoiled you too much all these years. You're still this naive, even at your age!" Robert sneered, eyes full of mockery. Blindfolding Donna, he hoisted her onto a wire dozens of meters high. She struggled desperately, the thin cord suspending her seeming ready to snap at any moment. "Stop!" Utterly hopeless. This was the same man who once cooled a cup of hot water before handing it to her, afraid she might burn herself. Now, he stood there coldly, savoring her desperate pleas. Donna was the only legitimate heir of her generation in the family. A pity she was a girl—Michael didn't believe women should lead. So Laura took matters into her own hands. She selected six boys from affiliated families, raising them alongside Donna with the explicit understanding that her choice would become her husband and inherit the family empire. "Whoever Donna marries gets the keys to the empire!" Those six boys had always catered to Donna's every whim. As children, they were her entourage, teasing and tormenting others at her command. As adults, they accompanied her, beating the illegitimate family children into submission. Robert, the standout among them, always charged ahead, dealing the harshest blows. In Donna's eyes, that fearless brutality defined a man. So at her coming-of-age ceremony, she chose Robert as her fiancé without hesitation. She even spent hundreds of millions on advertising, announcing to the world that Donna was engaged to Robert! Only when those overwhelming ads reached Grace's ears, driving her to slit her wrists in anguish, did Donna finally realize: Robert had a cherished first love all along. And that tender "Donna" he whispered in moments of passion—that wasn't her either. Donna had tried to win Robert back, but Grace sought her out first. On one hand, Grace acted pure and proud, declaring she'd never be the other woman, urging Donna to help her go abroad. "Miss Donna, I have no interest in being a homewrecker, but you should keep your man in check. Don't let him come crawling to me—it puts me in an awkward position." On the other, she sent tearful messages to Robert, sobbing, "We're just not meant to be. Maybe in another life"—making Robert believe Donna had forced her hand. Donna's voice grew hoarse from crying, her eyes dull. The ropes cut into her skin, fresh wounds bleeding steadily. Finally, Robert deigned to crouch down and lift her chin. "Grace came back but refuses to eat properly, avoiding me on purpose." "She says as long as you're alive, she'll always be the other woman. She won't accept me. What am I supposed to do?" He thought the problem lay with Donna. Donna shook her head in despair. "I never said anything. She asked to leave herself..." She no longer had the strength to explain. Robert scoffed. "Donna, you really are heartless. I played the loyal dog for you all these years, and still you bite the hand that feeds you." With that, he gestured to someone beside him. The next moment, the rope around Donna's waist snapped... When she opened her eyes again, Donna was back at her coming-of-age ceremony, the day she chose Robert as her fiancé. "Donna, are you sure you want to choose Robert?"
