In the eleventh year of waiting for my billionaire boyfriend, I married his brother Summary

For eleven years, I believed Nolan would marry me. On license day, I stood alone at City Hall while his Instagram showed him kissing another woman. The next morning, I found them in bed. His new wife demanded my job, and he fired me—branding me the mistress who ruined their marriage. So I resigned and disappeared. Chapter 1 of In the eleventh year of waiting for my billionaire boyfriend, I married his brother

"Cancel the Q3 review," I ordered into my phone, pacing the concrete steps of City Hall.

"But Michelle, the board is expecting your presentation in twenty minutes," my assistant argued through the speaker.

"I don't care what they expect, Sarah. Today is my wedding day. Push the meeting to Monday."

I ended the call and shoved the phone into my pocket.

"Ma'am, I have to lock the gates now."

I turned. A security guard stood a few feet away, jingling a massive ring of brass keys. The sky above the plaza had already bled from bruised purple into pitch black.

"Just five more minutes," I told him, my voice steady despite the ice forming in my stomach.

"You said that an hour ago. The clerk went home at five. Nobody is getting married tonight."

I checked my watch. 8:14 PM.

Ten years. A decade of my life poured into Nolan Gallagher, culminating in me standing alone on these concrete steps in a custom white suit. As the CFO of a Fortune 500 tech firm, I handled multi-million dollar crises before breakfast. I didn't do unstructured time. I had cleared my schedule, ignored frantic emails from my board, and waited.

"Fine," I told the guard. "I'm leaving."

My phone vibrated against my palm. I snatched it up.

Not a text from Nolan. An Instagram notification.

Olivia Prescott just posted a photo.

I didn't follow Olivia. She was the spoiled daughter of a Gallagher family friend, someone I only saw at tedious charity galas. But the algorithm knew our social circles overlapped. I tapped the screen.

The image loaded, stealing the oxygen from my lungs.

Nolan stood on the steps of St. Jude's Cathedral. He wore the black Tom Ford tuxedo we had picked out together last month. His hands gripped the waist of a woman in a sweeping lace gown.

Olivia.

Their lips were pressed together.

The caption sat right below: *Forever begins today.*

"No," I whispered. "This is a joke."

I hit his contact name. The line rang three times before kicking to voicemail.

"Pick up," I commanded the empty air, hitting redial.

Voicemail. Again.

I gripped my car keys and headed for the parking lot.

The Gallagher family estate blazed with light. Valets scrambled to park luxury sedans along the circular driveway. I bypassed the line, slamming my Porsche into park right at the front entrance.

A young valet rushed over. "Miss, you can't park here—"

"Watch me," I snapped, tossing him the keys.

I marched up the grand staircase. Two security guards stepped in front of the heavy oak doors, blocking my path.

"Miss, we need to see your invitation," the taller one said.

"I'm Michelle. Move."

"Mr. Gallagher left strict instructions regarding the guest list tonight."

"Then Mr. Gallagher can come out here and throw me out himself." I pushed past them, shoving the doors open.

Crystal chandeliers illuminated a sea of designer gowns and tailored suits. A jazz band played in the corner. Laughter echoed off the vaulted ceilings. Waiters circled with silver trays of champagne.

Then I saw him.

Nolan stood by an ice sculpture, a crystal flute in his hand, smiling at a group of investors. He looked relaxed. Happy.

I crossed the marble floor. The crowd parted. My white suit stood out like a flare in the dark against the sea of jewel-toned dresses.

"Nolan."

My voice wasn't loud, but it cut through the jazz music.

He turned. The smile vanished from his face, replaced by a smooth, unreadable mask. He didn't look shocked. He didn't look guilty.

He handed his glass to a passing waiter and stepped toward me. "Michelle. You shouldn't be here."

"I shouldn't be here?" I repeated, my tone razor-sharp. "I should be at City Hall. Where I waited for nine hours."

Whispers erupted around us. Guests turned their heads, eyes wide with gossip.

"Keep your voice down," Nolan murmured, stepping closer to block my view of the room. "Let's go to the study."

"No." I stood my ground. "We'll do this right here. Why are you getting married?"

He adjusted his cuffs. "It's business."

"Business." I let the word hang in the air. "You married Olivia Prescott for business."

"Her father's company holds the distribution rights my family needs to expand into Europe." He spoke as if explaining a quarterly earnings report to a junior analyst. "My parents arranged it. It was the only way to secure the merger."

"You agreed to marry me today."

"And I meant it," he insisted, his jaw tightening briefly before unclamping. "But the Prescott deal accelerated. If I didn't sign the marriage certificate today, her father was going to back out."

I stared at the man I had loved since college. The stranger wearing his face.

"You let me sit on those steps all day."

"I couldn't risk you trying to stop it," Nolan replied. "Listen to me, Michelle. This is just a family marriage of convenience."

He reached out, trying to grab my hand. I jerked away.

"Don't touch me."

"It's a piece of paper," he urged, leaning in. "A contract. I'll divorce her in a year. Once the merger is finalized and the assets are locked, I'll end it."

"A year."

"Yes. Michelle, wait for me one more year."

The sheer audacity of his request slammed into me.

Ten years of missed holidays, canceled dates, and excuses. Ten years of building my own career while supporting his ambitions, waiting for the day he would finally put us first. I funded his first startup. I spent my twenties fixing his mistakes.

I looked down at his left hand. A thick platinum band rested on his ring finger. It caught the chandelier light, mocking me.

A harsh, dry laugh escaped my throat.

Nolan frowned, clearly expecting tears, not amusement. "What's funny?"

"You." I fixed my eyes on him. "You think I'm going to wait?"

"You love me," he stated, absolute certainty in his voice. "We've built a life together."

"I built a life," I corrected him. "You built a lie."

"Michelle, be reasonable."

"I am being reasonable." I locked eyes with him, my expression freezing over. "Nolan, what makes you think I'll still wait?"

"Because you always do."

The words slipped out of him, arrogant and cruel in their honesty.

My chest tightened, but I refused to give him the satisfaction of a single tear. I straightened my shoulders, smoothing the lapels of my white jacket.

"Not anymore."

I turned on my heel, ready to walk out of the estate and out of his life.

"Michelle. Leaving so soon?"

A soft, musical voice halted my steps.

Olivia Prescott materialized from the crowd. She looked stunning in her custom Vera Wang gown, diamonds glittering at her throat. She held a glass of champagne, her lips curved into a sympathetic, almost pitying smile.

Nolan stiffened behind me. "Olivia, go back to the guests."

She ignored him, gliding forward until she stood inches from me. The scent of her expensive jasmine perfume filled the space between us.

"I'm so sorry about the mix-up today," Olivia said, her tone laced with false sweetness.

"There was no mix-up," I replied coldly. "Just a coward too afraid to send a text."

Olivia chuckled, a delicate, chilling sound. She leaned in, tilting her head so her lips were right next to my ear.

"You really think he's marrying me just for the family?" she whispered.
