In the eleventh year of waiting for my billionaire boyfriend, I married his brother

I didn't sleep.

The harsh glow of my dual monitors illuminated my home office until dawn. Four pots of black coffee fueled a deep dive into the corporate servers, the Gallagher estate security logs, and Nolan’s private penthouse access records.

He hadn't moved out of the estate. He hadn't kept his distance.

I stared at the glowing green text on my screen. Olivia’s temporary access code had been swiped at his private elevator. Three times a week. For an entire month.

"A marriage of convenience," I muttered to the empty room.

By 8:00 AM, I stood outside his penthouse door. My corporate keycard still worked. The electronic lock flashed green, granting me entry into the sprawling, minimalist living room.

Silence hung in the air, broken only by the muffled sound of running water from the master suite.

I dropped my leather briefcase on the glass coffee table.

The master bedroom door swung open.

Nolan stepped out first. He was barefoot, his black dress shirt entirely unbuttoned, exposing his chest.

Olivia followed close behind him. She wore one of his oversized white button-downs, the collar slipping off her shoulder to reveal a stark red mark on her collarbone. Her lipstick was smeared.

They froze.

"Michelle," Nolan began, raising a hand.

"Save it." I kept my voice flat, refusing to let him see the tremor in my fingers.

Olivia didn't flinch. She reached up, tucking a stray strand of blonde hair behind her ear. A smug smile tugged at her lips.

"You have a lot of nerve showing up here," Olivia said, stepping around Nolan to face me.

"I have a key," I replied. "And you have my fiancé."

"Husband," she corrected, crossing her arms. "So what if you were the girlfriend for ten years? I am Nolan’s legal wife now. You’re just a guest who overstayed her welcome."

Nolan stepped between us, hastily fastening the buttons on his shirt. "Michelle, let me explain. I didn't expect you to come here."

"Clearly." I pointed toward the hallway. "You told me you were sleeping at the office to finalize the European merger. But I spent the night going through the security logs. Olivia's code has been active here for a month."

Nolan stopped buttoning his shirt. "You shouldn't be looking at those logs."

"I'm the Chief Financial Officer. I look at everything." I unlatched my briefcase and pulled out a thick manila folder, slamming it onto the glass table. The sharp smack echoed through the room. "But this? This is what I actually came for."

Nolan glanced at the folder. "What is that?"

"Three months of hidden financial flows." I tapped the highlighted figures on the top page. "You told me the Prescott deal was about European distribution rights. You lied to my face. Olivia’s family hasn't just secured marriage benefits. They’ve been siphoning funds from our core R&D projects."

Nolan’s jaw tightened. "Those transfers were authorized."

"Not by me." I stepped closer, closing the distance. "Project Titan was fully funded. You diverted thirty percent of its budget into the Prescott holdings. Without a board vote. Without my signature."

"The board knew," Nolan argued, his tone defensive. "They approved it in a closed session."

"A session you excluded me from."

"Because you would have blocked it!" Nolan shouted, his composure finally cracking. "You always block my aggressive expansions. You play it too safe, Michelle."

"I keep you out of federal prison," I shot back.

Olivia sighed, walking over to the espresso machine. She started pressing buttons, acting completely at home. "She's so dramatic, Nolan. This is exactly why my father insisted on the restructuring. She treats your company like her own personal piggy bank."

I turned my head, fixing my gaze on her. "Don't touch that machine. I bought it."

Olivia paused, then smiled and pressed the brew button anyway. "Everything in this penthouse belongs to my husband now. Which means it belongs to me."

She walked back to the kitchen island, picked up her designer handbag, and pulled out a crisp, folded document.

"You were the CFO," Olivia corrected. She tossed the paper onto the table, right on top of my financial report.

I stared at it. The Gallagher Board of Directors seal sat at the top.

"A formal authorization," Olivia sneered, leaning against the edge of the glass table. "Demanding your immediate dismissal. A woman who can't even keep her husband certainly isn't fit to manage our family's finances."

I scanned the page. The terms were brutal. Stripped of all executive powers. Equity frozen pending a review. Access to the corporate servers revoked by noon.

And right at the bottom sat Nolan's signature.

I ignored Olivia and looked straight at him. He stared at the floor, suddenly fascinated by the hardwood planks.

"Nolan." My voice dropped an octave, cold and absolute.

He finally met my gaze.

"You signed this yesterday," I stated. "While I was waiting for you at City Hall."

He didn't deny it.

"You're not going to speak up for me right now, are you?" I asked.

The silence stretched. One second. Two.

He shifted his weight, refusing to hold eye contact. "It was a condition of the merger. Her father wouldn't sign the final contract unless we removed you from the C-suite. The board is nervous, Michelle. The transition requires stability."

"Stability." I tasted the word. It tasted like ash.

"Just step down," Nolan urged, his tone shifting into that placating, corporate voice he used during PR disasters. "Leave the company for a while. Take a sabbatical. Let the dust settle, and we can figure things out later."

A laugh ripped from my throat. It was loud, harsh, and entirely devoid of humor.

"Figure things out," I repeated, shaking my head. "You really think I'm going to quietly pack my desk and hide while you two strip the company I built?"

"You didn't build it," Olivia snapped. "Nolan did. You just balanced the checkbooks."

I didn't even look at her. My eyes stayed locked on Nolan. "Ten years of my life. I funded your first startup. I saved you from bankruptcy twice. And you're firing me to appease her."

"It's just business, Michelle," Nolan said.

My phone vibrated in my pocket. A sharp, piercing chime.

I pulled it out. A new email notification lit up the screen.

*Sender: Unknown.*

*Subject: Read this.*

I tapped the screen. An attached PDF loaded.

The header read: *Confidential Marriage Agreement.*

I scrolled down past the legal jargon, straight to the signatures at the bottom of the final page.

Nolan Gallagher. Olivia Prescott.

My thumb hovered over the date printed right beside their names.

Signed six months ago.

I raised my head, the screen glowing in my hand. The puzzle pieces finally snapped together, forming a picture far uglier than a sudden corporate merger.

"Business," I whispered. "You signed the marriage contract six months ago."
