In the fantasy novel FALLEN WINGS: THE DEVIL'S REDEMPTION, Nicholas, a powerless devil cast out of the underworld, crashes onto Earth. Rescued by Casey, a skeptical artist, he must navigate humanity. But when dark forces threaten her, this unique romance novel turns into a fight for survival.

Chapter 1 of FALLEN WINGS: THE DEVIL'S REDEMPTION

Nicholas tumbled from the sky, a streak of fire against the cold midnight clouds. His wings, once imposing and black as obsidian, now hung in tatters, useless against the pull of gravity. His descent wasn’t majestic or dignified—more like a comet spiraling out of control.

“Damn it, damn it, damn it!” he yelled as trees scraped against his body, breaking his fall in the most painful way imaginable. His landing wasn’t any better; the shingles of a roof shattered beneath him, sending debris cascading to the ground.

Inside the house, Casey Winters startled awake at the sound of what she thought was an earthquake. She glanced at the clock: 2:37 AM. Grumbling, she threw on a robe and grabbed the nearest weapon she could find—a hardcover edition of her own novel.

Meanwhile, Nicholas groaned, sprawled out on the roof like a broken marionette. His glowing amber eyes flickered as he attempted to stand, but his legs wobbled like a newborn colt. The cold wind stung against his injured wings, which he instinctively tried to fold but only managed to tangle further.

"Perfect," he muttered. "I’ve hit rock bottom. Literally."

Suddenly, the window creaked open. Casey, her dark hair wild and her hazel eyes sharp, leaned out with her improvised weapon raised. “Who the hell are you, and why are you destroying my roof?”

Nicholas blinked up at her, utterly dumbfounded. “Uh… I’m Nicholas.”

Casey stared at him for a moment, then her eyes traveled to the charred shingles and the black feathers scattered across the roof. “Nicholas, huh? What are you, a cosplayer who got drunk and climbed onto my house?”

“No! I’m…” He hesitated. The truth sounds insane, even to him. “I’m a demon. I fell out of the sky.”

“A demon,” she repeated flatly.

“Yes.”

“Uh-huh. And I’m Britney Spears.”

Nicholas opened his mouth to argue, but at that moment, the sharp pain in his wings flared, and he let out a guttural groan. He collapsed onto the roof, clutching his side.

Casey’s skepticism wavered as she watched the glow in his eyes dim slightly. Against her better judgment, she climbed out of the window and carefully approached the injured stranger. Up close, she could see the torn remains of his wings, the faint glow of his skin, and the aura of something decidedly… otherworldly.

“You’re serious,” she whispered.

Nicholas managed a weak grin. “Told you.”

“Okay, demon boy,” Casey said, her voice tight with a mix of fear and disbelief. “You’re clearly hurt, and I’m clearly out of my mind for not calling the cops, but let’s get you inside before my neighbors think I’ve invited a pyrotechnic weirdo over.”

She helped him climb awkwardly through the window, his tall frame and crumpled wings making the process more complicated than it should’ve been. Once inside, Nicholas slumped onto the couch, his black coat leaving faint scorch marks on the fabric.

“So, what’s your deal?” Casey asked, crossing her arms. “Why are you here? And why is there a demon-shaped hole in my roof?”

Nicholas winced. “I… uh, fell. From Hell.”

“Obviously. But why?”

He hesitated, avoiding her gaze. “It’s a long story involving bad luck, a stupid demon friend who couldn’t cast a spell correctly, and wings that decided to quit on me.”

Casey sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. “Great. So, you’re not only a demon but an incompetent one.”

“Hey, I resent that!” Nicholas protested weakly, but the effect was ruined when he nearly toppled over.

Casey shook her head, muttering something about needing coffee to deal with this nonsense. As she moved to the kitchen, Nicholas watched her, a flicker of curiosity in his exhausted eyes. She wasn’t like anyone he’d ever met—sharp-tongued, fiercely independent, and oddly captivating.

He had no idea why he’d fallen to Earth, but for the first time, Nicholas thought that maybe, just maybe, it wasn’t such a bad thing.

Casey crouched in front of Nicholas, her brows furrowed in disbelief as she examined his "injury." Up close, his wing was like nothing she had ever seen before—a massive appendage with feathers as dark as midnight, shimmering faintly as though dipped in oil. When she prodded it with the edge of her pen, Nicholas yelped dramatically.

"Ow! Careful!" he protested, jerking away.

Casey rolled her eyes. "Stop being such a baby. This isn’t a real wing. It’s some kind of elaborate costume prop, right? You’re some drunk cosplayer who broke into my house."

Nicholas groaned, throwing his head back. "How many times do I have to tell you? It’s real! I’m a demon, and I fell—literally fell—from the sky."

Casey stood and crossed her arms, glaring at him. “Sure you are, and I’m the queen of England. You need to sober up, demon boy.”

"I’m telling the truth!" Nicholas insisted, but Casey wasn’t having it.

“That’s it. Out. Now.” She pointed to the door with the authority of a general.

Nicholas’s jaw dropped. "You’re kicking me out? I’m injured! I could die out there!"

Casey raised an eyebrow. "You’re a ‘demon.’ Isn’t Hell your backup plan?"

He sputtered, trying to think of an argument. "Hell doesn’t exactly have a free shuttle service! I’m stuck here!"

Casey grabbed his arm and began pulling him toward the door. Despite his height and imposing presence, he was oddly light, like someone had deflated him.

“Wait, wait!” Nicholas cried, suddenly clutching his head and groaning loudly. “Oh no… my head. It’s spinning. Everything’s going dark…” He slumped to the floor dramatically, clutching his chest.

Casey stared at him, unimpressed. “Really?”

“I… I think I’ve lost my memory,” Nicholas mumbled weakly, peeking up at her through one eye. “I don’t even know who I am anymore. Or how I got here. Or why I’m so devastatingly handsome.”

Casey snorted. “Wow. The memory loss card? Seriously?”

“It’s true!” Nicholas groaned again, flopping onto his back like a fish out of water. “Please… I have nowhere else to go. You wouldn’t leave a poor, confused, probably cursed man out in the cold, would you?”

Casey sighed, her resolve wavering. “Unbelievable,” she muttered, pinching the bridge of her nose. “Fine. You can stay—for now. But only until you figure out how to get your *real* memories back or whatever.”

Nicholas perked up instantly, his golden eyes gleaming. “Really? Oh, you’re an angel! A saint! I knew I could count on you!”

“Don’t push it,” Casey warned, pointing a finger at him. “One stupid stunt, and you’re out of here. Got it?”

He nodded earnestly, trying to look as pitiful as possible. “Got it. No stunts. Just… me, an amnesiac, helpless man.”

Casey rolled her eyes and headed back toward the kitchen. "Great. I’ve just adopted a winged idiot."

As soon as she was out of sight, Nicholas sat up with a sly grin. “She’ll thank me later,” he muttered to himself. For now, he had a roof over his head, and that was all he needed.
