When Everything Has Gone Summary
Chapter 1 of When Everything Has Gone
The entire Night Owl Organization knew that Leigh and I were the most valuable male and female mercenaries on the dark web.
We met when we were seven years old and we had been through life and death for twenty years. We had fought together in the sea of blood and corpses to reach the top.
When we were on a mission, we ate and slept together and we never avoided each other even when taking a bath.
“Marshall, look at your big and strong appearance, how did you hook up with that old woman last night?”
She threw the short-sleeved shirt directly on my face. “Wash your clothes well. I feel sick when I smell them. Don’t affect my shooting speed!”
I always thought that Leigh would be my woman sooner or later.
Until half a year ago, we were ordered to protect the young master of the Adams Family.
The look in her eyes when she looked at him was soft and gentle, which I had never seen in more than twenty years.
She even violated the regulations to peek at Bryant taking a bath and even looked at his back...
At that moment, I realized that she was not born calm and self-sustaining, but the person who could arouse her desire was never me.
After submitting the retirement application, I called my grandfather.
“Grandpa, is the idiot from the Porter Family still alive? I agree to marry her!”
——
“Miss Porter has been raised in the countryside since she was a child because of her mental retardation. Have you really thought it through? Don’t you like your partner very much?”
Grandpa’s voice came from the receiver and I looked at the familiar figure in the house.
She was standing outside the bathroom door and every breath was filled with the smell of desire.
I spoke softly, “I’ve thought it through.”
Grandpa didn’t ask any more questions.
“Okay, get ready. I’ll send a car to pick you up the day after tomorrow.”
After hanging up the phone, I pushed the door and walked in.
The moment I walked in, Leigh’s expression was a little embarrassed.
Seeing me come in, she grabbed a piece of clothing and threw it at me.
“Get out! Don’t you know that there is a difference between men and women?”
I just thought it was ridiculous. From the age of five to now, for a full twenty years, we had eaten and slept together when we were on a mission and even bathed together. Now, she told me that there was a difference between men and women.
Leigh, didn’t you think it was too late?
“Leigh, who is famous and the most valuable in the night, can actually do something that violates the rules by peeping at her employer taking a bath. Do you really like him so much?”
Leigh seemed to be anxious because of what I said and she pinched my chin fiercely.
“Marshall, you crossed the line!”
I shook her hand away and asked her with a sneer, “I crossed the line? It’s you who crossed the line, not me! Leigh, you really make me sick.”
Leigh laughed in anger and her eyes revealed the confidence of knowing everything.
“Marshall, you don’t have to be so aggressive. I’m making you sick? It’s your thoughts that make people sicker, right? Do you think I don’t know your little thoughts? You’d better give up this idea as soon as possible. In my eyes, you are not even a man.”
Leigh’s words hit me hard on the head, making me dizzy and speechless for a while.
Leigh didn’t care about my embarrassment, grabbed my wrist and dragged me out of her room.
The moment I fell to the ground in a mess, the door of the room slammed heavily in front of me and a pleasant voice came into my ears at this time.
“Marshall, what’s wrong with you? Did you quarrel with Leigh?”
I looked up and saw that the person who spoke was Bryant, the young master of the Adams Family who had just taken a shower and the employer of Leigh and me.
I stared at Bryant in a daze. His hair was still wet after taking a shower and he exuded a youthful atmosphere similar to that of a male.
Leigh was right. Compared with him, a man covered in blood like me really couldn’t catch her eye.
