Too Late for Love Summary
Chapter 1 of Too Late for Love
When I was turned into a human pig by the criminals, my husband was lovingly feeding his childhood sweetheart.
Before I died, enduring excruciating pain, I used my one remaining arm to call him. Instead of concern, his voice was filled with disdain and mockery.
“What? Hoping I’ll forgive you?”
“Don’t even dream about it! Your jealousy is what caused Charlotte’s heart condition to relapse. What else can you do besides being petty and envious? Unless you die, I will never forgive you!”
The call ended, and as despair engulfed me, I closed my eyes for the last time.
The next day, my heart made its way to the black market. My husband, who desperately needed a heart for his childhood sweetheart, used his connections to buy it at an exorbitant price. He treated it as a treasure and had it transplanted into her.
Later, as an expert forensic doctor, he spent a whole day and night identifying all the dismembered parts of my body but couldn’t find my heart.
——
On the second day after my death, someone found an unidentified object while eating at a dumpling restaurant.
The police rushed to the scene, sealed it off, and took all the meat for inspection.
That very day, my husband, Ethan Shaw, known as a forensic genius, identified that one-third of the meat was human.
Captain Ryan Blake was furious. “The killer is unbelievably cruel to commit such an atrocity!”
Ethan remained silent, his gaze fixed on the evidence before him. Suddenly, he let out a soft “Hmm,” picked up a piece of brain matter, and got back to work.
After some time, Ryan Blake eagerly asked, “Did you discover something?”
Ethan frowned. “The victim has been dead for at least three days, yet some brain cells are still active. This suggests that the victim suffered inhuman torture before death. Also, there’s no heart tissue in this pile of remains.”
Hearing this, Ryan was stunned. He turned to his team. “Search everywhere! This missing heart might be a critical clue. Dig up every inch if you must!”
He cursed under his breath. “The government just issued a ban, and these scumbags still dare to act recklessly. And to use such a heinous method—it’s utterly lawless!”
Turning back to Ethan, he hesitated before asking, “Dr. Ethan, I heard you had a fight with your wife?”
A flash of disgust crossed Ethan’s usually composed face. “Don’t mention her. She caused so much harm to others—dying out there is the best outcome for her!”
Even as a disembodied soul, my heart felt a sharp pang. He still blamed me for Charlotte’s heart condition.
Ryan apologized. “I didn’t mean to pry. It’s just that a few days ago, people in your neighborhood saw a strange car on surveillance. That night, coincidentally, your wife Emma left after arguing with you. All nearby neighborhoods have been checked—there are no reports of missing persons, except for your wife. Should we call her?”
After a brief silence, Ethan smirked coldly.
“She’s petty and can’t stand me caring for others. She’s thrown tantrums like this before, but she always comes crawling back to apologize. This time is no different. She’s probably just trying to show me how ‘determined’ she is.”
“Captain Ryan Blake, your focus should be on this murder case. Such trivial matters don’t deserve your attention.”
Hearing this, Ryan held back what he was about to say, sighed, and went off to assign tasks.
I let out a bitter laugh. I had once thought our arguments might make him realize my unhappiness.
