The Day I Divorced My Husband Summary
Chapter 1 of The Day I Divorced My Husband
In the third year of our marriage,Julie Coleman's husband,Tom Wellington, had an affair.
After deceiving Tom into signing the marriage and resignation agreement,Julie contacted her father,an American billionaire,"Dad,I’m divorced.I’m going back to the United States with the baby.”
"And please take back the seven and a half million dollars that I begged to secretly invest in him."
She and Tom had met in college, when he was still a penniless young man dreaming of starting a business and making it big.
Against her family's wishes,Julie secretly invested the seven and a half million dowry money that her family had prepared for Tom.
To be with him,she severed ties with her family, relinquished her status as heiress and stayed by his side as his personal assistant.
But since Tom had cheated on her,she would not let him have a single penny.
Her father asked in a serious tone,"Why do you suddenly want a divorce?Tom has cheated on you, hasn't he?"
Though it was phrased as a question, her father's tone held absolute certainty.
Julie clenched her fists tightly while tears streamed down her face.Even now,the thought of the past still brought shivers down her spine,as if the hurt were fresh.
A month ago, when Tom was away on business, she discovered she was pregnant.
After accompanying her to the prenatal checkup, her best friend couldn't help but warn her,“So many men cheat these days, especially artists like your husband. They're the most promiscuous circle.”
"Back then, you not only concealed your identity to marry Tom but also invested both money and effort for him.Now that you're pregnant,he won't even show his face.”
Facing her friend's disapproval,Julie only chuckled and defended Tom,"All men in this world will cheat, except Tom."
"Besides,he doesn't even know I'm pregnant.He's just away on a business trip."
No sooner had the words left her mouth,Julie lifted her eyes and spotted a familiar figure across the street. It was Tom and he was in a woman's arms.
They were kissing passionately at the hotel entrance. He cradled her face tenderly as his hand slowly slipped beneath her clothes. The woman's face turned crimson.
Julie froze.A chill spread over her and her face burned in humiliation.
She had abandoned everything for Tom and yet he cheated with his student,Stacy Miller.
Her pregnancy had already been unstable and this incident had triggered violent contractions.
Julie clenched her fists tightly and pushed her friends away. Her voice shook as she said,“I have something to do.I’m leaving first.”
She fought back tears and rushed forward, ready to demand an explanation, but was hit by a sudden car and suffered massive bleeding.
In the hospital, doctors repeatedly issued critical condition notices.Julie called Tom 99 times, but only on the 100th call did he answer.
His irritated voice came through the line,"Julie,I'm working outside.I'm busy.Stop calling me!”
Tom hung up without hesitation. But in the final second, she still heard the sounds of a man and woman gasping in passion.
Julie stared at the ceiling,as tears fell in despair.
It turned out that his so-called busyness was cheating with other women.
In the early years of their relationship, even a minor cut on her finger would send him into a panic.
But now, only after a small amount of time,a hundred calls couldn’t even stir the slightest ripple in his heart.Indeed, promises only mattered when love was there.
The doctors exchanged glances, sighed and said sympathetically,"Miss Coleman, your condition is extremely serious. You must have surgery immediately,or your life is in danger.”
Julie bit her lip, protecting the child in her belly. Her eyes reddened when she said to the doctor,“I don’t have a husband.I’ll sign the consent myself!”
Tom,from the moment you cheated on me,you're out of my life.
After the surgery, the baby was saved, but Julie stayed in the hospital for a week.
For that entire week,Tom never once called her.
When she finally turned on her phone,it was flooded with messages after messages from Stacey, filled with receipts and bills.
For that entire week,Tom had stayed at the hotel across from the hospital. In just seven days,he’d gone through seven boxes of Durex and various adult toys...
Julie numbly clenched the bedsheet and her nails dug into her palms until the white fabric stained crimson as her heart died little by little.
No wonder Tom had hardly touched her for nearly a year—it wasn’t because he was busy, but because he had found someone better outside.
With trembling hands,Julie deleted Stacy's WhatsApp messages and got up to pack her things.
Just as she prepared to leave the hospital,Stacy arrived.Somehow, she had learned of her whereabouts.
Gone was the youthful, innocent look of before;now she radiated alluring charm. Now,her lips were painted a bold scarlet, her breasts were half-exposed and the kiss marks on her neck reminded Julie of how she'd spent these days indulging in debauchery with her husband.
Dressed in luxury brands,Stacy deliberately flaunted the huge diamond ring on her hand with a provocative smile.
“Mrs.Coleman, teacher said you’re like a dead fish in bed, you’re so boring. So I’m just being nice by taking care of the teacher for you.You don’t mind,do you?”
“Of course not.Whatever your market price is,if my husband needs you,I’ll call you.One payment per visit.I’ll make sure you don’t lose out.”
Though she planned to leave,Julie wasn't about to let Stacy off easy.
Immediately, the smile on Stacy's face froze. Her voice laced with menace."Julie, your husband has another woman, but you can still act so calm.Has no one else wanted you, that you insist on clinging to Tom?”
Her hand slowly settled on Julie’s belly, her smile turned icy.“You saved the baby this time. What about next time?Or the time after that?”
Suddenly,Julie's expression changed. She grabbed Stacy’s wrist and demanded coldly,"What do you mean?"
Stacy curved her lips into a smile and whispered venomously into her ear,“Your accident?I arranged it.”
"Three years ago,on the night you married Tom,he told you he was handling business at the company. But actually, that night,he slept with me.”
“The diamond ring on your finger? That was the complimentary gift Tom got after he got me a necklace at the auction.”
"Even though the doctor said the artificial heart was also fine,Tom felt sorry for me.He said that artificial was not as good as the original,so he lied to you and obediently handed your heart to me.”
Julie crumpled. Her chest convulsed with pain as she curled up on the side, her eyes unfocused as tears streamed down her face.
So,Tom had been lying and hurting her all along.
A year ago, when Tom claimed his heart was failing, she immediately underwent heart compatibility testing and donated hers without hesitation, replacing her own with a cold artificial heart.
Everyone around her had tried to dissuade her then, but she had insisted,“Having my heart beat inside the body of the one I love—that's a kind of romance.”
A week after the operation, she was admitted to the ICU due to a postoperative infection and yet Tom had never come to see her.
Back then, she kept making excuses for him, saying he had just undergone major surgery and was too weak.Only when the truth was brutally ripped open before her eyes did she realize how ridiculous she had been.
It wasn't that he had no time—he simply had no time to spend on her.
What she once believed could prove her love now belonged to the mistress who destroyed her family.
She had abandoned a fortune worth billions for him, severed ties with her family, only to be rewarded with heart-wrenching betrayal.
A man tainted by such filth—she wanted nothing to do with him.
When she snapped back to her senses,Julie sneered and said to her father,"Tom cheated,so I'm getting a divorce."
On the other end,Julie's father pondered for a long time."Does Tom know about the divorce?"
Julie replied,"No.Half a month ago,he was rushing to meet his mistress. Before he left,I tricked him into signing the resignation and divorce papers.”
