The Billionaire's Deadline Bride

The boardroom was colder than usual. Not the temperature, but the atmosphere. Every seat was filled. Every face measured. Every eye calculated.

Zara stood quietly beside Adrian. She had insisted on being present. Not to argue. Not to plead. But to witness. To ensure no one used her as a pawn.

Victor sat at the far end, immaculately composed, like a predator savoring the hunt. The photos. The leaks. The rumors. He had positioned everything perfectly.

Adrian, as usual, did not rise to the bait. His posture was flawless. Calm. Calculated. But Zara could feel the tension in his jaw, the slight flex of his hand tightening around his pen.

The Motion

The chairman, an elderly man with a reputation for fairness, cleared his throat.

"The board will now vote on the motion to temporarily suspend Mr. Adrian Vaughn as CEO pending further investigation regarding alleged internal financial irregularities."

Murmurs swept the room. A few members glanced nervously at Victor. A few at Adrian.

Zara's stomach tightened. Thirty days. That deadline was inching closer. Every second mattered.

Victor smiled faintly. "I suggest caution," he said smoothly. "If there is even the slightest perception of conflict, action must be taken to protect shareholder confidence."

Adrian's gaze swept the room. Then he spoke, calm, deliberate, every word measured.

"I welcome the vote," he said. "Because transparency is the only defense against slander and manipulation. My record is clean. My intentions are aligned with the company's growth. Every document is available for review."

A ripple of tension moved across the board members. Victor's smile tightened.

Zara's Move

Zara stepped slightly forward. Not to speak over Adrian. Not to challenge him. But to remind the board - subtly, powerfully - that the woman they were trying to weaponize was a partner, not a liability.

"If I may," she said, voice steady, eyes fixed on Victor without looking away, "the timing of this motion coincides precisely with leaks intended to cast doubt on Mr. Vaughn's leadership. If the board suspends him now, it benefits the party orchestrating this. That's not governance. That's manipulation."

A few board members shifted uncomfortably. Victor's eyes narrowed slightly. Interesting, he thought.

Adrian didn't turn, but his voice softened in acknowledgment.

"Exactly," he said quietly. "This is not the time to yield to pressure. If anything, this is the time to act with clarity."

The Vote

The secretary called each member.

Three voted in favor of suspension.

Two abstained.

The remaining majority voted against.

The motion failed.

A collective breath seemed to escape the room. The board had survived Victor's trap - for now.

Victor rose, smooth as ever. His smile no longer charming, but dangerously deliberate.

"Very well," he said. "We shall see how long your confidence lasts."

And with that, he left the room, leaving Zara and Adrian staring after him.

After the Boardroom

The elevator ride back was silent. Adrian's hands gripped the rail tightly, but his expression remained composed.

Zara finally spoke, her voice soft. "You did it. You survived."

"Yes," he replied quietly. "But surviving isn't winning."

She studied him. "Then what do we do next?"

He looked at her, eyes sharp, voice low. "We find the traitor inside my company. Because if Victor has an insider, he will keep using them. And if he knows about the Zurich transfer, he could turn the entire empire against us in a heartbeat."

Her stomach sank. "And if we fail?"

Adrian stepped closer. "Then the deadline doesn't just threaten the company. It threatens us."

Zara's breath hitched. She realized - this wasn't just corporate warfare anymore. Every move could cost lives. And she had no choice but to stand with him.

Adrian reached for her hand, entwining his fingers with hers. "We're not backing down. Not now. Not ever."

She squeezed his hand, determination matching his.

"Then let's finish this war," she said.

The city lights blinked below them, oblivious to the storm brewing above - one that would test loyalty, love, and survival in ways neither of them had ever imagined.
