The Billionaire's Deadline Bride

The penthouse felt smaller tonight.

Rain had returned, but softer, almost deliberate - like the city itself was holding its breath.

Zara stood by the window, phone in hand, staring at the blurred lights below. Every sound - the hum of traffic, the occasional horn - felt amplified.

Adrian didn't speak immediately. He simply leaned against the doorway, arms crossed, eyes dark and calculating.

"You're thinking about the boardroom," he said softly.

Zara shook her head. "Not just the boardroom. The insider. Victor has someone feeding him information. Someone close."

Adrian's jaw tightened. "Yes. And they're bold."

She turned to him. "Bold enough to try accessing the inheritance clause. Bold enough to make it look like Elena did it."

He stepped closer, voice low, dangerous. "Which means they're confident. Confident enough to think they can manipulate me, the board, and you."

Her chest tightened. "And if they're inside your company... how do we even find them?"

He exhaled sharply. "We flush them out. Every access log. Every clearance request. Every internal email. If they slip once, I'll know."

Zara's fingers clenched. "And if they slip... they'll know we're onto them."

Adrian's eyes darkened. "Then we prepare for the next move."

The First Threat

Later that night, Zara returned to her apartment to check on her brother Daniel.

The moment she stepped inside, something felt wrong. The air smelled faintly of someone else - subtle, almost imperceptible.

Her hand went to her phone.

Then she saw it.

A note slipped under the door:

"Stay away from him, or the next leak won't just be documents."

Her stomach dropped.

Daniel, standing behind her, paled. "Who-?"

Zara held up a finger, shushing him. Her mind raced. Victor had escalated. The threat was no longer just corporate. It was personal.

Adrian's Response

By the time she returned to the penthouse, Adrian was waiting.

His expression was unreadable, but his eyes burned with intensity.

"You received it," he said.

She handed him the note. He read it slowly, carefully, then crumpled it in his fist.

"They want you scared," he said quietly. "They want you to hesitate."

Zara met his gaze. "And you?"

"I don't hesitate."

Her lips parted, but she said nothing.

He stepped closer, hand brushing hers. "Zara, listen to me. They think they can threaten us because they don't know what we're capable of together."

Her heartbeat quickened. "What do we do?"

Adrian's jaw tightened. "We root out the traitor. Whoever it is, they'll make one mistake. One. And I'll know."

"And if they go after me?"

He didn't hesitate. "Then they'll regret it. I promised you before - I don't protect because I have to. I protect because you're mine."

The possessiveness in his voice made her pulse race.

The Plan

The next morning, Adrian convened a private strategy session. Only Elena, Zara, and a handful of trusted executives were present.

He explained the digital sweep - all access logs, unusual clearance patterns, encrypted communication lines.

Elena nodded, tense but professional. "We should find them before any more leaks occur."

Zara listened silently, taking mental notes.

Her mind was elsewhere.

The personal threat made everything real. Victor wasn't playing games anymore. Every move they made could cost them - emotionally, professionally, even physically.

Adrian noticed her distraction. He placed a hand on her shoulder. "Focus. We move together. Not separately. Not alone. Together."

Zara nodded, determination solidifying. "Together."

The First Clue

Hours later, the security team reported unusual activity in a restricted server room.

Access had been attempted again - this time from a terminal Adrian and Elena both confirmed they hadn't used.

The timestamp: 3:42 a.m.

Adrian's expression darkened. "It's someone with intimate knowledge of our operations. Someone who knows our schedules, our moves... someone within the inner circle."

Zara's stomach tightened. "So it's not just Victor manipulating from the outside... he has a spy inside."

"Yes," Adrian said, voice low and controlled. "And we're going to find out who before they cause irreparable damage."

He looked at her, the intensity in his gaze almost overwhelming. "Are you ready for what this war will demand?"

She met him head-on. "I've never been more ready in my life."

His lips curved into a faint, dangerous smile. "Good. Because this isn't just corporate war anymore. This is personal. And no one threatens my wife - or my company - without paying the price."
