I stood frozen in place the moment Damon posed that question; I didn’t even have an answer ready.
Damon was the only man I had ever been intimate with, and the last thing I wanted was for him to feel any ownership over me.
Why did that call have to come just as I was about to reject him?
I had been feeling queasy for days, but I never considered it might be due to pregnancy.
I thought I was simply grappling with the grief of losing my sister, unaware that I was actually carrying Damon's child.
“Oh, so this was your plan? You’re pregnant with my child, the future heir, and you thought you could just run away? Are you alright?”
His words ignited a wave of anger within me. What right did he have to claim my unborn child as his?
He had shown no concern for me, abandoning me when I needed him most to marry his mistress or first love on our wedding day. He didn’t deserve to be called my child’s father.
Yet, I couldn’t deny the chemistry that still sparked between us, just like on the day we first met.
Who could resist?
He was undeniably the most attractive man in the entire pack, with the face of an angel and the physique of a Greek god, and I had given myself to him without a second thought.
I had hoped he loved me or that he might change once we were married, but I was clearly mistaken. I would rather embrace a life as a rogue than endure a lifetime of humiliation.
I shoved Damon's hands away from me. “How can you be so sure that the child I’m carrying is yours?” I challenged, holding his furious gaze.
For a brief moment, his anger wavered, replaced by disbelief. “Are you seriously suggesting that you’ve been unfaithful? Cheating on your mate? Have you no decency, Selena? How could you do this?”
“What does it matter if I cheat? Haven’t you been unfaithful to me with this woman right here? So it’s perfectly fine for you to betray me, but I can’t do the same? Why? Because you’re the Alpha? You’ve lost my respect, Damon. There’s nothing left for me to fight for, and even if this child is yours, I will never let you have it!”
“If that child you’re carrying is mine, then you need to stay here in the pack house where you’ll be taken care of! We’re talking about my heir!” he declared firmly, but I just shook my head and let out a bitter laugh.
“Your heir? Seriously? I’m right here! This nobody can’t possibly be carrying your child! I can give you children! Plenty of pups!” the witch he had brought home, whom he called his mate, shouted angrily, stomping her foot.
“Laura, this isn’t your fight! Just get out of here!” he shouted, causing her to flinch as she shot me a furious look before fleeing the room in tears.
This man really thinks I’m naive. I’m not the omega he can push around anymore; everything about me has changed, and I refuse to let him treat me however he wants, well, he is mistaken.
“You’ve got a mate now, Damon. Why not ask her to have your children ? This child belongs to me, and there’s nothing you can do to change that. Just so you’re aware, plenty of men out there are ready to step up and raise another man’s child. Wishing you all the best, Alpha Damon,”
With that, I pivoted sharply and slammed the door behind me.
