Rusty rushed home overnight.
When I opened the door, Harper stood beside him with teary eyes.
I frowned and was about to close the door, but Rusty barged in. “Sadie! Listen to me! It’s not as what you think.”
Harper cried, “Yes, Sadie! It’s really not what you think!”
“It’s true that Harper and I flew to the Sirie yesterday, but I did it because she is your closest assistant. She knows your preferences and I just wanted to have an extra hand to help you prepare a surprise.”
“Yes! That’s exactly what happened, Sadie! It’s only because of you that I was able to gain Mr. Andrus’s attention and experience the beauty of the Sirie.”
Listening to their echoing words, I felt incredibly irritated.
Suddenly, Harper knelt down in front of me. She was crying so hard that I felt even more pity.
“Sadie! I can’t lose this job. You’ve been the one who’s funded my studies so far. You should know my family’s financial situation. If I lose my job, my gambling-addicted father will definitely beat me to death!”
Rusty frowned in dismay. “Sadie, this is just a misunderstanding. Are you going to give up the assistant you’ve spent so much time and effort training because of a misunderstanding?”
Hearing this, I couldn’t help but laugh. But my heart ached. I could even give up my own flesh and blood, so how could I say anything about Harper?
If I could train Harper, I could train even more outstanding talents.
“Yes, Sadie, I’ve been handling the company’s core secrets with you. Are you really confident in kicking me out like this? Are you threatening me?”
Seeing my expression change, Harper’s tears flowed even harder.
“No, I didn’t.” She looked up at Rusty pitifully. “Mr. Andrus, that’s not what I meant.”
Harper suddenly fell to the side, revealing her scarred knees. She glanced at me subconsciously and quickly lowered her skirt.
Rusty’s face was filled with pity as he pulled her to her feet.
“Okay, Sadie, Harper has apologized. It was just a misunderstanding. Why make such a fuss?”
“A misunderstanding?”
I threw the photo the private investigator had taken in his face.
“Holding hands? A misunderstanding? Harper, do you dare show me your WhatsApp’s status?”
Harper’s face paled at my words. Rusty, too, looked incredibly embarrassed when he saw the photo I had thrown at him.
I forced myself to calm down.
“Is there anything else to explain? That water house has 24-hour, all-around surveillance footage. Do you want me to show it to you two?”
Harper and Rusty’s faces were completely panicked. And my heart ached.
In reality, there were no surveillance cameras in the water house. I had lied to them to test them. But now, the panic on their faces betrayed them both.
Looking at the man I’d deeply loved for two years, I smiled with disappointment.
“Rusty, let’s get a divorce.”
Hearing my words, Rusty, still stunned, instantly exploded. His eyes were bloodshot and he grabbed my neck, pushing me against the wall.
“Divorce? Sadie, how dare you talk about divorce!”
Rusty calmed down and pushed me away.
“Sadie, stop being unreasonable.”
