Chapter 1 of Pregnant by My Ex's Mafia Godfather

Ethan told me the yacht dinner would fix the money problems I had been covering for months.

Instead, I heard him tell a man downstairs that I was worth more than the cash he had stolen.

I ran barefoot through the upper deck and crashed into Dante Valenti, the godfather every man on that boat feared.

Dante fired one warning shot and told Ethan I would leave only when I chose to.

An hour later, I was in Dante's bed with Ethan's fingerprints still red around my wrist.

Dante stopped with his mouth at my throat and asked me to tell him if I wanted him gone.

I pulled him back instead.

For one reckless night, the most dangerous man in the room was also the only one who asked what I wanted.

Before dawn, I slipped into the service corridor and heard Ethan arguing through his phone.

I started recording.

“The account is already in Mia's name,” Ethan hissed.

“Good,” Serena answered. “Then let everyone believe she stole it.”

“And Dante?”

“If he protects her, we make him part of the lie.”

Mia POV

I twisted the fabric of Dante’s unbuttoned shirt in my fists, pulling him closer against the wrinkled sheets of his penthouse bed.

The scent of sea salt, scotch, and burned gunpowder from the lower deck clung to his skin.

He pressed his mouth to my collarbone, his heavy palm resting flat against my waist, right above the hem of my ruined dress.

He stopped.

"Say the word, and I walk out that door," Dante whispered, his voice a low rasp against my neck.

I glanced down at my wrist.

Purple bruises formed a brutal ring where Ethan had dragged me across the yacht toward a man I didn’t know.

Eighteen months.

I had drained my nursing tuition savings to cover Ethan’s rent, believing his lies about a struggling logistics job.

Tonight, the truth surfaced.

He worked for the Valenti crime family, and he brought me here to pay his debts.

Dante Valenti, the man who had just silenced a screaming deck with a single gunshot, was waiting for my permission.

I tightened my grip on his collar.

"Don't stop," I said.

A fist slammed into the heavy oak door.

"Mia! Open the damn door!" Ethan yelled, his voice muffled through the wood.

Dante froze.

He pulled back, sliding his dress shirt off his arms and draping it over my bare shoulders.

"Do you want him in here?" Dante asked.

I didn't run to the bathroom.

I slid my hand over the nightstand, grabbed my phone, and pressed record.

I tucked the screen against my palm.

"Let him in," I said.

Dante walked over and unlocked the door.

Ethan barged in, his eyes darting between the rumpled bed and Dante.

He didn't look at my bruised wrist.

"Why the fuck are you taking collateral that belongs to my creditor?" Ethan demanded, his face flushed with panic.

He pointed a shaking finger at me.

"She’s a nursing assistant, Dante," Ethan sneered. "She scrapes by on night-shift wages. Letting her spread her legs for you doesn't change her value. I need her to clear my ledger."

The pieces snapped together.

The "business dinner" Ethan had promised would celebrate our financial turnaround had been a handover.

Ethan had stolen from the Valentis, and I was the payment to keep him breathing.

Dante didn't raise his voice.

He walked to the glass table and set his Glock down with a heavy thud.

"She is not collateral," Dante said.

Ethan swallowed hard, his bravado cracking.

Dante turned his dark gaze to me.

"Do you want me to throw him out?" Dante asked.

For a year and a half, I had made excuses for Ethan's late nights and empty bank accounts.

I looked at the man who tried to sell me.

"Get him out," I said.

Two massive security guards materialized from the hall, grabbing Ethan by the arms and hauling him backward.

"You stupid bitch!" Ethan yelled, struggling against the guards. "You think he gives a shit about you?"

In the scuffle, Ethan’s phone hit the carpet.

The screen lit up on an active, speaker-mode call.

A woman's sharp voice cut through the noise.

"Ethan? Stop screaming. Did Mia sign anything?"

"The accounts are already in her name, Serena," Ethan yelled toward the floor as the guards dragged him further away.

"Good," Serena replied, her tone icy and amused. "Everyone will think Mia stole the money."

"What if Dante gets involved?" Ethan panted.

"If the Don protects her, we drag Dante into the lie too," Serena laughed.

The guards hauled Ethan out of sight and kicked the phone down the hall before slamming the door shut.

I stood frozen.

The phone in my hand was still recording every word.

Ethan hadn't just panicked tonight.

He had framed me for embezzlement weeks ago.

Dante stared at my pale face.

He kept his distance, leaving space between us.

"Do you need a doctor?" Dante asked. "A private room? Or do you want off this yacht?"

He was handing me the reins again.

I looked at the mafia boss offering me an exit, and I stepped forward.

I shut the heavy door until the lock clicked.

"I want you," I said.

I dropped the phone on the mattress.

I closed the distance, grabbed the lapels of the shirt he had given me, and kissed him hard.

Dante groaned, his hands gripping my hips.

He lifted me, pressing my bare back against the wall.

"Tell me what you want, Mia," he murmured against my neck.

His hand slipped beneath the lace at my hip, drawing a broken gasp from me.

"I want you," I said, my nails digging into his shoulders. "Now."

He stripped the ruined dress away and tossed it to the floor. I reached past him and clicked off the bedside lamp, leaving only the city glow through the windows.

"Look at me," Dante said.

I did.

He gave me one last chance to change my mind before closing the distance between us. When I pulled him closer, he moved with the same fierce control he had shown from the first moment, stopping whenever my breathing changed, waiting for my answer before taking more.

"Don't stop," I whispered.

He didn't.

For those few reckless hours, I chose every touch Ethan had tried to turn into a transaction. I refused to let the man who had betrayed me own the memory of my body too.

Dawn broke through the windows, casting harsh light across the sheets.

Dante stood by the door, a phone pressed to his ear.

"Bring the ledgers to the next cabin. I'll handle Ethan's mess," Dante said.

He ended the call and looked at me.

"There's a doctor on standby," Dante said. "Security outside your door, and a private driver waiting at the port. You have whatever you need."

"Are you leaving?" I asked.

"I have to run this family," he said.

He walked out.

The heavy door clicked shut.

The silence rang in my ears.

I stared at the empty space he left behind.

Dante was respectful in bed, but out there, he was a Don who could sink this ship with a single command.

Being saved didn't mean I was safe.

I slid out of bed and pulled my wrinkled dress over my head.

I picked up my phone from the nightstand.

The recording of Ethan and Serena's conversation sat in my files.

I uploaded the audio to two encrypted cloud folders and forwarded a copy to a backup email Ethan did not know existed.

My screen lit up with a new message from Ethan.

"Delete the recording, or everyone will know you stole the money."

I stared at the glowing letters for exactly three seconds.

I tapped the forward button, sending the audio files into the ether.

I typed my reply.

"Then you better pray I don't go missing."

I hit send.
