Chapter 1 of No Longer Stay with You after Your Betrayal
After dating Evan Delmare for five years and being secretly married to him for another three,Amora finally decided to file for divorce.
Staring at the divorce agreement that her mother-in-law had clearly prepared a long time ago,she could not help but let out a bitter,self-deprecating smile.
"Fifteen million and I’ll sign it."
Amora Mireille had been by Evan’s side for a total of eight years back when he had nothing, all the way until now, when his career had flourished and success surrounded him.
Just one week ago,he had asked her to get out of the car because of a phone call from his precious Belinda.
It was snowing that night. She could not get a cab and ended up walking home on foot.
When a car hit her,she caught a glimpse of Evan walking past with his hands gently covering Belinda’s eyes.
"Belinda,don’t look.It’ll ruin your eyes."
At that moment, the pain in her heart far outweighed the pain in her body.
When she regained consciousness, she was lying in a hospital bed, staring at the social media feed filled with intimate photos of Evan and Belinda Elowen.
[I said I was bored,so Evan came to build a snowman with me.]
The doctor beside her said softly,"Ms.Mireille,I deeply apologize, but the baby in your womb couldn’t be saved."
She had planned to tell Evan the good news about the pregnancy that very night. But now...
Amora wiped away her tears. And in that moment, she was finally, completely awake.
She scrolled through her contacts and dialed a number that had remained silent for a long time.
"Hi.Yeah,I’ve made up my mind.I’ll take the offer to go abroad."
***
Three days after being discharged from the hospital,Amora returned to the company, carrying with her the divorce agreement that had been sitting in her mother-in-law’s drawer long before she ever saw it.
When she reached the door of Evan’s office, she heard Belinda’s sweet, whiny voice drifting from inside.
"Evan, don’t you think this bag is pretty? It's only ten thousand, but my dad said it’s too expensive and won’t buy it for me."
Evan replied dotingly,"It looks beautiful.I’ll buy it for you."
Through the small gap in the door,Amora saw Evan holding Belinda by the waist and leaning in to kiss her.
She remembered how Evan had proposed to her back when he was still broke.
He had offered her a cheap, ordinary ring and said,"Marry me,Amore Mireille.I'll make it one day and I promise I’ll get you the most dazzling, most expensive ring there is."
At that time, she was so blinded by love. She was willing to fall, blindly and fully, for Evan Delmare.
Three years into their marriage, the company had grown more and more prosperous.Yet even now,she still wore that same cheap, fading ring on her finger.
Just like her marriage…the ring, too, was on the verge of falling apart.
Yet as long as Belinda pouted and acted cute,Evan would buy her a ten-thousand-dollar designer handbag without a second thought.
A sharp ache pierced through Amora’s chest. Her hand, frozen in the air, finally moved to knock on the door.
"Come in."
A few seconds later,she heard Evan’s voice.
Amora took the folder in her hands, pushed open the office door and stepped inside.
Evan looked slightly flustered, his hand reaching up to rub his neck in an awkward gesture.
Amora’s eyes instinctively caught the faint kiss mark on his neck, but she did not say a word.
"What is it?"he asked, his voice rough, carrying a trace of irritation.
Amora placed the folder she was holding onto the desk."Several project contracts. The marketing department says they’re urgent."
Mixed in with the documents was the divorce agreement.Amora took a deep breath, silently hoping he would not notice it.
Evan flipped through the first two pages quickly and signed them without giving them much thought.
"I’ve signed them. You can leave now."
Hmph,so eager to get rid of me?
Suppressing the bitterness rising in her chest,Amora picked up the folder and walked out of the office.
She was fully aware that Belinda was hiding behind the curtains at that moment.
She even made a point of revealing her high heels on the floor just to make sure Belinda would notice her presence.
Three days ago, just after she was discharged from the hospital, she had received a video message sent directly by that woman.
In the video,Evan and Belinda were nearly half-naked,entangled together.
She heard Belinda’s sultry voice."Evan, who do you think is better?Me,or Amora?"
The next second,Evan’s voice came through."Of course you’re better.Amora is old now. She’s not as good as you in any way."
"I haven’t touched her in a long time."
Belinda giggled and replied,"Then why not just dump her already?Wouldn’t it be better to be with me properly?"
Evan said,"You don’t understand.If I leave her,she’ll fall apart."
"She’s not like you.Besides me,who else would ever love someone like her?"
Even though Amora had already made up her mind to divorce him,she could not stop her eyes from reddening.
So in Evan’s eyes, she was nothing but a burden,a useless woman who could not survive without him.
She understood what Belinda was trying to do.She had no idea that Amora and Evan were legally married. She probably thought Amora was just a clingy girlfriend who refused to let go.
So,Belinda wanted to push her into giving up completely.
Amora snapped a photo of the signed divorce agreement and sent it to her mother-in-law,Agatha.
[He signed it.Don't forget the fifteen million.Keep your word.]
The day Agatha came to the hospital to see her,she had flung the divorce papers onto the bed with cold indifference.
"You’ve already enjoyed enough years of happiness with my son. That should be more than enough."
"If you’re smart enough, sign it quickly.Don’t delay Evan and Belinda’s marriage any further."
That was the moment Amora realized that Agatha had long been hoping for her to leave.
Now,as Amora looked down at the passport in her hand, she knew all she had to do was wait for the 30-day cooling-off period to end.
And then she would be completely free.
