Chapter 1 of My Husband’s Mistress Killed His Family

My husband’s mistress killed my sister-in-law and grandma-in-law in a car accident. She ran a red light, hit them, and they both died on the spot.

But somehow, the court said I was just making things up for money.

I filed five lawsuits, trying to fight for them. Lost all of it.

Just when I was about to appeal for the sixth time, I found out their bodies were gone in the morgue. Stolen.

I was about to call the police when Walter: my husband, the big-shot lawyer walked in. He tossed a wad of cash on the table.

“Five thousand,” he said, all cold and emotionless. “You should already know I never lose a case. No matter how much ‘evidence’ you think you’ve got, you’ll never win. Those ’two’ were scammers, and you’re just trying to milk it for more money. But don’t bother. I already sold their bodies on the black market. Got five thousand for both. Consider that the full price of their lives. And stop bothering Remi.”

For a second, I just stared at him. Then it hit me.

He thought it was my family who died. Not his.

I pushed the money back to him quietly. “I don’t have the right to take this.”

He frowned, irritated. “What, five grand not enough for you now? Loisa, wake up. Your so-called family didn’t even have jobs. Five thousand for their lives is already generous. Don’t get greedy.”

I smiled bitterly and shook my head slowly. “You misunderstood. I meant it… you should keep the money.”

His face twisted in disgust. “Are you insane? That’s money from selling your own family’s corpses. You think I’d touch that kind of dirty cash?”

He said it with such conviction, like he actually believed he was the good one here.

I stared at him until the words stopped sounding like his. Walter grew up with that grandma. She worked herself to death raising him and his sister whom he cherished and treasured deeply. He used to talk about grandma like she was a saint. I never understood why, after she and his sister were gone, he buried himself in work and defended Remi like she was family.

Now I understand. He didn’t know the dead were his. He thought it was my side of the family.

I looked him dead in the eye. My voice was calm, but inside I was shaking. “Walter, you should take that money back and buy their bodies. Otherwise… you’ll regret it.”

He let out a dry laugh. “You have no idea what the black market’s like. Once something’s sold there, it’s gone. They’ve probably already cut them up for parts. There’s no getting them back. So just take the damn money and stop making a scene.”

I couldn’t speak after that.

They weren’t even my blood relatives. But they were his. And now, because of his mistress, they were dead... called scammers and their bodies sold off by their own blood.

The thought of it made my chest ache so bad I could barely breathe.

I don’t know when he turned into this kind of monster. Maybe he always was.

“Walter,” I said softly, almost afraid my voice would crack, “you seem to know a lot about how the black market works. So tell me… how could you do that? How could you sell their bodies like that? Didn’t it bother you even a little?”

He leaned back on the couch like he was bored already, rubbing his temple with that smug little smirk he always wore when he thought he was right.

“Why would it bother me?” he said lazily. “They weren’t my family. They were yours. And honestly, dead people don’t care. Selling them off gave them at least some value, didn’t it? I mean, they caused that accident, right? Killed two people, traumatized Remi… and now you’re still trying to squeeze sympathy out of this? Loisa, let it go.”

I blinked at him. “They caused the accident?” My voice came out small.

He shrugged. “Of course. Remi was driving carefully. But your people just ran across the road like idiots. You should be thankful we didn’t sue you. Honestly, it’s embarrassing. You keep clinging to this case like it means something. Just take the five grand and move on.”

My throat felt tight. I wanted to laugh but I couldn’t even find the sound for it. He really had no idea. Not even a clue.

He thought my sister-in-law and grandma-in-law—the only family he ever had—were my relatives. He thought his own blood was the “trash” that got sold off.

“Walter,” I said carefully, “what if… what if you’re wrong about who died?”

He scoffed, rolling his eyes. “Don’t start your drama again. You think I wouldn’t know my own family? The ones who died in that accident were from your side. Two nobodies. Why, you want to pretend it was my family now? So you can guilt-trip me?”

I just looked at him. He was so confident, so sure of himself. That lawyer arrogance of his never slipped.

He kept talking, completely unaware how every word stabbed deeper.

“Honestly,” he went on, “people like that? Old women, sickly types... they’re just waiting for death anyway. The old lady looked like she could barely walk. The other one, your ‘sister’? Probably jobless. They weren’t going to make it far in life. So yeah, maybe selling their bodies wasn’t such a bad idea. At least they’re worth something now. Five grand’s better than nothing, right?”

I wanted to scream.

Instead, I just sat there, my nails digging into my palms.

He thought he was being logical. He thought he was being smart.

And all I could think about was how his grandmother’s hands used to tremble when she poured him tea. How his sister used to sew his buttons, laugh when he forgot his wallet, tell me he was “a good man, just too focused on work.”

They loved him. They really did.

I forced a smile, my voice low. “You’re right, Walter. Maybe you should keep that money. Since you think five grand is the price of a life… you might need it someday.”

He frowned. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

I stood up. “You’ll figure it out soon enough.”

He didn’t even notice how pale I’d gone, or how my hands were shaking.

Because Walter Williams, the great lawyer, was too blind to see he’d just sold his own family.
