Chapter 1 of My Husband Reversed His Vasectomy For Her, And I Snapped

The day my medical results came back, the senior nurse pulled me aside and told me a secret.

My husband—the man who had insisted on a child-free marriage for five years—had secretly undergone a vasectomy reversal.

For one stupid, beautiful moment, I was thrilled.

I thought Nathan had finally changed his mind. I thought five years of loving him had finally made him want something more with me—a family, a child, a future neither of us had ever dared to imagine.

Then my phone buzzed.

A video from his twenty-two-year-old assistant, Chloe Monroe.

I pressed play.

Chloe was topless, her neck and collarbone covered in angry red scratches and unmistakable marks. She smiled straight into the camera, then deliberately tilted the phone downward.

Her manicured fingers were lazily tracing my husband’s bare chest.

“Vicky,” she whispered, her voice dripping with mock sympathy. “Your husband is exhausted.”

Her fingers slid higher, idly playing with a lock of Nathan’s dark hair.

“He’s sleeping so soundly now.”

Then she smiled.

“He told me the thing he wants most in this world is to give me a baby.”

I stared at the screen.

The vasectomy reversal.

The secrecy.

The ten thousand dollars he’d paid in cash to keep the procedure off our joint insurance.

Suddenly, it all made sense.

My husband hadn’t reversed his vasectomy because he wanted a child with me.

He had done it because he wanted one with her.

And that was the moment my five-year marriage ended.

Nathan just didn’t know it yet.

“What is this, Dolores?” I asked, staring at the folded piece of paper in my hand.

The early morning clinic hallway was completely empty. Dolores, the senior nurse, darted a look toward the reception desk before stepping closer to me.

“Mr. Hale’s post-op report,” she whispered, her voice barely carrying over the hum of the air conditioning.

I frowned, turning the Beverly Hills private clinic letterhead over. “Post-op? Nathan hasn’t had surgery.”

“Your husband came in for a reversal last week,” Dolores said, her eyes locked on mine. “Did he not tell you?”

My fingers clamped down on the crisp paper. The edges bit into my skin. “A reversal of what?”

“His vasectomy, Mrs. Blake.”

She hesitated, then tapped a line near the bottom of the report. “The procedure itself was completed, but he’ll still need follow-up testing. A reversal doesn’t automatically mean fertility returns.”

The fluorescent lights above us seemed to flicker. “That’s impossible. He wouldn’t do that.”

“I prepped him for the procedure myself,” Dolores insisted. “He paid ten thousand in cash. He specifically requested it be kept off your joint insurance.”

“He paid cash.” I repeated the words, trying to make them make sense.

“Are you absolutely certain it was him?” I asked, my voice dropping to a harsh whisper. “Nathan Hale. Six-foot-two. Brown hair. A birthmark on his left jawline.”

“I verified his ID myself, Mrs. Blake,” Dolores replied, crossing her arms over her light blue scrubs. “I wouldn’t make a mistake like this.”

“Did he say why?” I pressed. “Did he give any medical reason? Any reason at all?”

“He only said he was ready for the next chapter.”

“He promised me,” I said, the memory rising unbidden, sharp and painful. “Five years ago, at our wedding. He stood in front of two hundred people and said, ‘I don’t need kids, Victoria. I just need you.’”

Dolores offered a sad, tight-lipped smile. “People change their minds.”

“He got the snip two months after the honeymoon,” I fired back, my tone rising. “I held his hand in the recovery room. I cried for ten minutes straight. He told me it was his ultimate vow to me.”

“I am so sorry,” the nurse murmured.

“Don’t be,” I snapped. I shoved the report into my leather purse. “I need to go.”

I practically sprinted to my car. The drive back to Bel Air was a blur of screeching tires and blaring horns. I gripped the steering wheel so hard my knuckles ached. Was this a surprise? A twisted, misguided attempt to give us a family after half a decade of being happily child-free? Or was it a betrayal?

I dialed his number as I turned onto Sunset Boulevard.

“Hey, beautiful,” Nathan answered on the second ring. His voice sounded groggy, thick with sleep.

“Where are you?” I demanded.

“Home. Still in bed.” He let out a low yawn. “I decided to work remotely today. Why? Are you done at the clinic?”

“I’m on my way back now.”

“Take your time. I’m going to catch another hour of sleep.”

“Are you alone?” I asked, the question slipping out before I could stop it.

A short pause followed. “Of course I am. Who else would be here?”

“You tell me, Nathan. You’ve been full of surprises lately.”

“What is that supposed to mean?” he asked, his tone shifting from groggy to defensive.

“Nothing,” I said. “Go back to sleep.”

“Victoria, wait—”

I hit the end call button and tossed the phone onto the passenger seat.

Fifteen minutes later, I slammed the front door of our mansion shut. The foyer was dead silent. I took the marble stairs two at a time, my heart hammering a frantic rhythm against my ribs.

I reached the master suite and shoved the heavy double doors open.

The room was dark, the blackout curtains still drawn.

Before I could take a step inside, my phone buzzed in my palm. A sharp, loud vibration.

I glanced down. An Instagram direct message notification lit up the screen.

Chloe Monroe sent you a video.

Chloe. Nathan’s new assistant. Twenty-two years old. Recent USC graduate.

I remembered her from the company annual party three weeks ago. She possessed a spray-tanned, honey-colored glow and a face full of youthful freckles. I remembered the way she handed Nathan a martini that night. Her index finger had dragged across his wrist bone, lingering for two extra seconds. I had noticed it. I had cataloged it. But I had kept my mouth shut because I trusted the man I married.

I tapped the notification. The video auto-played immediately.

The screen filled with Chloe’s face. She was topless.

She sat right there, on my white Egyptian cotton sheets. The very sheets I washed every Sunday.

Angry, red fingernail scratches marked her collarbone and the side of her neck. She smirked, bringing the camera closer to her face.

“Vicky,” Chloe’s voice oozed from my phone speaker, sweet and entirely mocking.

My thumb hovered over the screen, paralyzed.

“Your husband is exhausted,” Chloe whispered, her eyes sparkling with malice.

She raised her free hand. The sunlight from the window caught the gold Cartier love bracelet on her wrist. The exact bracelet Nathan claimed he bought for his mother last month.

Chloe twirled a lock of Nathan’s dark brown hair around her fingers.

“He’s sleeping so soundly now,” she continued. “He told me the thing he wants most in this world is to give me a baby.”

My stomach violently twisted. The clinic report. The ten thousand dollars in cash. The vasectomy reversal.

It wasn’t a surprise for me. It was a preparation for her.

The camera lens slowly tilted downward.

Nathan lay curled against Chloe’s bare side, his face buried in the pillows, completely oblivious to the recording.

He wore a navy blue silk robe. The Tom Ford robe I bought him last Christmas. I had stood in the boutique on Madison Avenue for twenty minutes, debating between charcoal and navy, ultimately choosing the blue because Nathan once mentioned it brought out the color of his eyes.

Now, the left shoulder of that expensive silk hung loose, sliding down his arm.

Bright red lipstick stains dotted his exposed chest.

The video ended, looping back to Chloe’s smug, freckled smile.

I stood frozen in the doorway of my own bedroom, the digital audio of her voice repeating the nightmare.

“Vicky, your husband is exhausted…”

I raised my head, peering into the shadows of the master suite.

The bed in front of me was empty. The sheets were completely stripped, leaving only the bare mattress.

“Nathan?” I called out, my voice slicing through the quiet room.

A shadow moved behind the frosted glass of the master bathroom shower. The water abruptly shut off.

“Chloe, did you grab the towels?” Nathan’s voice echoed from the tile.
