Chapter 1 of You Ruined Me on Live TV, So I Walked the Red Carpet With Him

I was eleven weeks pregnant when my husband accused me of sleeping with his biggest NFL rival.

Not privately.

Not after asking me what happened.

On live television, in front of millions of people.

“Is the baby even mine?”

Minutes later, I was bleeding at the bottom of a stadium staircase after he shoved me away during an argument.

I called his name.

He almost came to me.

Then his ex whispered, “There are cameras everywhere.”

And he stopped.

The man who carried me to the ambulance was Beckett Hayes, the same quarterback everyone believed I had cheated with.

I lost my baby that night.

By morning, my husband’s PR team had already called him the victim.

Six months later, the truth came out.

I had never cheated.

The baby had always been his.

But by then, Beckett Hayes had finally kissed me.

And this time, the rumors were about to become true.

***

My hand rested over my stomach, pressing lightly against the fabric of my white dress. Eleven weeks.

Inside the stadium suite, the noise of seventy thousand screaming fans vibrated through the reinforced glass. Down on the field, Jace was one play away from winning the Super Bowl, his name echoing through the arena in a deafening roar.

Behind me, Monica gestured to the reality TV crew she had positioned near the private bar. Three cameras were already aimed at my face, waiting for the final whistle. Everything was scripted. The broadcast was set to cut to me the second the game ended, where I was supposed to announce our pregnancy live to forty million viewers.

I had hated the idea at first, but Jace had texted me from the locker room two hours before kickoff: *After tonight, no more cameras. Just us.*

Those words had softened something hard in my chest. For the first time in three years, I let myself believe that our child wouldn't just be another publicity asset in the Calloway brand.

With less than two minutes remaining on the game clock, my phone began to vibrate violently in my lap.

It wasn't a single call. It was a relentless cascade of text alerts, breaking news banners, and social media notifications.

I picked up the screen.

*TMZ: Super Bowl Bombshell — Sloane Calloway caught entering Beckett Thorne's hotel suite at 1:14 AM.*

My thumb froze. Beneath the headline was a video clip. It showed me walking down the hallway of the Four Seasons past midnight, and another clip from 4:02 AM, walking out wearing Beckett’s oversized black T-shirt.

My stomach dropped into free fall.

The stadium horn blared. Confetti exploded across the field in red and gold streamers. Jace had won.

Down on the turf, cameras swarmed him instantly. The luxury suite around me erupted into cheers, champagne corks popping, but Monica was suddenly staring at her tablet, her face completely drained of color.

On the suite’s main monitor, an ESPN sideline reporter pushed a microphone into Jace's face.

"Jace, an incredible victory tonight," the reporter said, breathless. "But breaking news has just hit the internet regarding your wife and Beckett Thorne—"

Jace could have walked away. His PR team was already trying to block the lens. But instead of ignoring it, Jace lifted his head.

Across the massive stadium, through the falling glitter and the flashing strobe lights, his eyes locked onto our glass box. His gaze landed directly on me.

Our eyes met across the distance.

Then Jace looked right back down into the camera, his jaw tight, and spoke into the live microphone.

"Is the baby even mine?"

The stadium seemed to disappear under a wave of static. The words hung in the air, broadcast to every television screen in the country.

"Sloane, wait!" Monica called out, but I was already running.

I shoved open the suite doors and bolted down the service hallway, ignoring the security guards and the cameras chasing my heels. My heart hammered against my ribs. I had to reach him. I had to tell him that the video was cut, that the hotel had the full, unedited security footage showing what happened while I was there.

I intercepted him in the private VIP tunnel beneath the stands. He was still in his shoulder pads, surrounded by stadium staff and team officials.

"Jace!" I pushed past a security guard, breathless. "Jace, listen to me. The clip is chopped. There's full surveillance from the hotel—"

He turned around, his eyes cold and furious.

"Why were you in his room at one in the morning, Sloane?" His voice cut through the damp tunnel air.

"It's not what you think—"

"Why did you walk out at four wearing his shirt?" he shouted, stepping directly into my space. "Answer the question!"

"My dress was ruined," I said, my voice shaking. "A banquet cart clipped me and spilled wine on it, and Beckett gave me a shirt so I could leave."

"Then why were you in his room at all?" Jace demanded, his face inches from mine.

I froze.

The words died in my throat. I couldn't tell him, not here with team officials surrounding us, that I had gone to Beckett specifically because Beckett had proof of what Jace and Tessa were doing behind my back.

I hesitated for a single second.

Jace let out a harsh, bitter laugh. "That's what I thought."

He turned on his heel and strode toward the private metal staircase leading up to the VIP exits.

"Jace, look at the timestamps!" I chased after him onto the stairs, pulling out my phone with trembling fingers. "Just look at the file Beckett sent me! Look at the truth for five seconds!"

I thrust the screen toward his chest.

"Get that out of my face!" Jace snapped, violently grabbing the phone from my hand.

"Give it back!" I reached out to grab it, but his arm came up hard, shoving me away with brutal force.

My foot caught on the slick metal edge of the step.

The world flipped.

I lost my balance and tumbled backward, my body slamming against the sharp metal edges of the steps before hitting the concrete landing at the bottom.

A sharp, tearing agony ripped through my lower abdomen.

I gasped for air, unable to move. I looked down at my white dress. A dark, spreading stain of crimson was rapidly soaking through the fabric between my thighs.

"Jace..." I cried out, my voice barely a broken whisper. "Jace, please..."

At the top of the stairs, Jace stared down at me, the color draining from his face. He took one step down toward me, his hands shaking. "Sloane—"

Suddenly, Tessa rushed around the corner, grabbing his arm with both hands and yanking him back.

"Don't," Tessa hissed urgently. "There are cameras at the end of the hall. If you're seen touching her like this, it ruins everything."

Jace looked at Tessa. Then he looked down at me, bleeding out on the concrete floor.

He stayed where he was.

"Sloane!"

A figure shoved violently through the security guards at the end of the lower tunnel. Beckett dropped to his knees beside me, his hands instantly pressing against my trembling shoulders.

"Stay with me," Beckett said, his voice rough with panic as he scooped me into his arms, lifting me effortlessly against his chest. "I've got you. Clear the damn hallway! Call a medic now!"

I looked over Beckett's shoulder as he ran. At the top of the stairs, Jace stood motionless in the shadows, letting another man carry his bleeding wife away.

The smell of antiseptic was the first thing that hit me when I opened my eyes.

The room was blindingly white. A machine beside the bed beeped in a steady, monotonous rhythm.

I looked at the doctor standing near the foot of my bed, holding a clipboard.

"My baby?" My voice was cracked and dry.

The doctor looked at me, his expression heavy with quiet sympathy. He didn't need to say the words.

A cold numbness spread through my chest, replacing the agony. I slid my palm over my stomach. It was flat. Empty.

On the wall across from the bed, the small television was tuned to an entertainment news channel. Jace's face filled the screen, looking solemn and broken during a post-game press conference.

The headline scrolled beneath his face: *Jace Calloway requests privacy while navigating an extremely painful marital betrayal.*

He was being painted as the grieving victim. The heroic quarterback whose Super Bowl glory had been tarnished by a cheating wife.

I watched the screen for a long time.

I didn't cry. I didn't reach for my phone to call him, and I didn't beg for an explanation.

Slowly, I raised my left hand. I pulled the five-carat diamond wedding ring off my finger and set it quietly on the metal nightstand beside the bed.

A nurse walked in with a fresh IV bag, offering me a gentle, pitying look.

"Could you ask someone to bring me my phone?" I said, my voice completely steady. "I need my lawyer."
