Immune To The Vampire Doctor

The beast in his blood didn't care for logic, for vows, or for the century of agonizing restraint he had fought to maintain. It surged forward like a tidal wave of pure, dark instinct. Julian lunged, closing the twenty-foot gap in a terrifying, unnatural blur that violently defied every known law of human motion. He hit the wall right beside her with a dull, sickening thud, his presence a suffocating, oppressive shadow that blotted out the fluorescent light of the corridor. He pinned her hard against the cold, tiled wall, his massive shadow stretching long and menacingly over her trembling frame.

"Wipe... that blood... off!" Julian snarled, his voice stripped entirely of its human timbre.

It was a deep, guttural vibration, the ancient sound of tectonic plates shifting deep beneath the earth, seeming to emanate not from his throat, but from the very concrete foundations of the building.

Sarah froze instantly, her brain paralyzed by the raw, suffocating wave of supernatural violence radiating off him like heat from a furnace. She couldn't draw a breath. She couldn't even scream. The air in the narrow hallway felt vacuum-sealed, sucked right out of her lungs. She could only stare, wide-eyed, catatonic, and entirely unblinking, at the towering monster looming over her. The polished, brilliant "golden boy" of the medical program was completely gone, replaced by a terrifying creature with veins of pulsing dark light visible beneath his skin, fighting a losing, agonizing war against his own ravenous nature.

Julian's clawed hand hovered inches from her throat, trembling with the effort it took to keep his fingers from closing around her windpipe. He could feel the raw heat radiating from her skin. He could track the frantic, panicked drum of her pulse as it hammered wildly against her jugular notch. It was a siren song, an irresistible frequency he was hardwired by evolution to track across continents, and every single fiber of his ancient being was screaming at him to close the remaining distance and sink his teeth home.

"Please!" he roared, the word tearing raw through his throat in a sound that was half-pleading agony, half-commanding authority. "Wipe it off! Right now!"

The sheer, primal desperation cutting through his voice finally pierced the thick wall of Sarah's psychological shock. Her hands, shaking so violently they were just a blurry white flash, shot up to her arm. She scrubbed frantically at the wound, her skin turning raw and burning under her palms, smearing the crimson smear deeper into her own pores in a blind, terrified panic, desperate to hide the evidence that was rapidly turning the man standing in front of her into a waking nightmare.

Julian squeezed his eyes tightly shut, his chest heaving with violent, shuddering breaths, his muscles coiled like hyper-tensioned steel springs. I have to end this, he told himself. Right here, right now. If he didn't wipe her recollection of this terrifying encounter, he would lose his fragile humanity entirely to the hunt.

"Look straight into my eyes," he commanded, his voice trembling on the razor-thin edge of a total psychological breakdown.

Sarah's head remained lowered, her chin tucked tightly against her chest, her breathing jagged, shallow, and full of terror. "Please, just don't kill me," she whispered into the dim space between them.

She was sobbing silently now, her entire body racking with the deep, sickening terror of a human woman who had inadvertently stumbled behind the curtain of reality to find something that fundamentally shouldn't exist.

"Please," Julian begged, his claws finally retracting back into his fingertips with a sickening crunch as he forced every last ounce of his remaining humanity to the surface. "Just look at me. Look at my face."

Slowly, hesitantly, she lifted her head. Her eyes were glassy with shock and thoroughly dazed by the sheer, overwhelming intensity of his psychic aura.

Julian didn't hesitate for a microsecond. He thrust his gaze directly into hers, locking his eyes onto the core of her soul, channeling every single drop of his ancient, hypnotic will deep into her mind. It was a brutal psychic intrusion, a profound violation of her personal consciousness that left him feeling hollowed out, dizzy, and physically drained.

"From this exact moment on," he whispered, his voice dropping into a register that was cold, final, and absolute, "you will forget everything you heard in that morgue. You will forget whatever you saw in this hall. You will not remember me, and you will never remember this moment."

The invisible supernatural energy surged fiercely between them, an electric static charge that made the tiny hairs on their arms stand straight up. Julian felt the razor-sharp psychic blade of his power carve deeply into her consciousness, severing the delicate threads of her memory with clinical, surgical precision. He watched the white-hot tension slowly drain from her face, the rigid posture fading from her frame as the fog rolled over her mind. The fierce amber fire burning in his pupils died down, receding into the deep, dark, unremarkable brown of his human disguise.

She blinked once, twice, looking completely dazed. She glanced down at the floor, utterly confused, acting precisely like someone who had just woken up abruptly from a vivid dream. She saw the minor scrape on her arm, picked at it absentmindedly with a frown, and brushed off her skirt. She didn't look at him. She didn't look at the dried blood smudged on her fingers. She simply turned around and continued her journey down the hall, stepping past Julian as if he were nothing more than an empty space in the air.

Julian watched her go, tracking her footsteps until she rounded the corner and disappeared entirely. Only then did his knees buckle slightly, and he sagged heavily against the cold wall, his hands shaking so violently that he had to shove them deep into his lab coat pockets to hide the tremors. He felt the phantom, burning ache of the beast tearing at his throat, still clawing and begging for just one more drop of warm reality.

With a frantic, desperate motion, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, unassuming red pouch. Tearing the top open with his teeth, he gulped the thick, artificial red substance down in great, ragged swallows, his throat working convulsively as the liquid hit his system.

It was a miserable, poor substitute-metallic, chalky, and completely dead but it effectively dampened the deafening roar of the hunger threatening to consume him.

He turned his unsteady steps toward the exit, desperate to escape the building before his control shattered for good, but the sharp, insistent buzz of his phone in his pocket cut through the quiet. He pulled it out. It was a cryptic, urgent message from Professor Thorne.

'Julian, we have a serious problem. Edward reported an unauthorized individual in the restricted wing during your shift. The Chief is furious and wants you in his office immediately. That rat even dragged the Dean into it.'

Julian's hand tightened around the casing of his phone until the glass screen cracked and splintered loudly under his white-knuckled grip. He had successfully wiped the administrative assistant's mind of the encounter, but in his rush, he had left behind a trail he hadn't anticipated, a cold, unyielding digital footprint of his presence in the restricted wing. And Edward, his relentless, spiteful nemesis, was already closing in on his scent.

The nature of the game had shifted overnight. It was no longer just about surviving the day-to-day pressure of medical school; it was a desperate, high-stakes, lethal race against absolute exposure. The hunt wasn't just coming for him anymore, it was already here. And Julian Vance was rapidly running out of shadows to hide in.
