The familiar scent of recycled air filled my lungs as I stepped off the plane at LAX, my fingers tightly gripping the handle of my carry-on. Inside that unassuming case lay eight years of my life's work—experimental anti-cancer data that could potentially save thousands of lives. Chapter 1 of Heiress Unleashes Vengeance

The familiar scent of recycled air filled my lungs as I stepped off the plane at LAX, my fingers tightly gripping the handle of my carry-on. Inside that unassuming case lay eight years of my life's work—experimental anti-cancer data that could potentially save thousands of lives. The biometric lock hummed softly against my thumb as I verified its security for the third time since landing.

Eight years. The same amount of time I'd spent loving Marcus from across the country. My stomach fluttered with anticipation as I navigated through the terminal. Today marked the end of our long-distance relationship and the beginning of our future together at Cedars-Sinai.

"Dr. Chen, please proceed to customs lane four," a voice announced overhead.

I adjusted my glasses, mentally rehearsing the presentation I would give tomorrow. The Project Alpha data represented a breakthrough in targeted cancer therapy—the culmination of countless sleepless nights and sacrifices. Sacrifices that had been worth it, I reminded myself. Both the research and my relationship with Marcus had been built on genuine passion and shared values, not the hollow connections that had surrounded me in my family's world.

After clearing customs, I checked my watch and made my way to the shuttle pickup zone. The driver smiled as he verified my pre-booked reservation.

"Dr. Chen? Your shuttle is ready. May I take your luggage?"

"I'll keep this with me," I said, nodding to my carry-on. "But thank you."

I settled into a quiet corner of the waiting area and pulled out my iPhone, quickly connecting a video call to Lena Petrova, my most trusted research assistant.

"Sophia!" Lena's face appeared on screen, her sharp eyes immediately focusing on the case beside me. "You made it. How was the flight?"

"Uneventful, thankfully. We're still on schedule for the data transfer at four." I lowered my voice. "Professor Martinez should be landing in about an hour."

"Perfect. The team is ready whenever—"

A commotion erupted near the shuttle entrance. A woman's voice, sharp and imperious, cut through the ambient terminal noise.

"I don't care who was here first! Do you have any idea who I am?"

I glanced up to see a stunning blonde in designer clothing storming toward the shuttle driver who had just checked me in. Her face was contorted with entitlement as she shoved past waiting passengers.

"I'll call you back, Lena," I murmured, ending the call and rising to my feet.

The blonde woman was now jabbing a manicured finger into the driver's chest. "The Sterling family doesn't wait for airport shuttles. We take them."

"Ma'am, I understand, but this shuttle has been reserved for—"

"I don't care! Move it now or I'll have your job!"

I approached cautiously, the case clutched protectively against my side. "Excuse me, I believe there's been a misunderstanding. This shuttle was pre-booked for medical transport."

The woman whirled toward me, her eyes narrowing as they swept over my simple blouse and slacks. "And who exactly are you?"

"Dr. Sophia Chen. I'm transporting critical medical research that needs to reach—"

"Oh please," she scoffed, her gaze hardening. "Some grad student with a science project doesn't take priority over me. I'm Victoria Sterling."

She spoke her name as though it should immediately end all discussion. When I didn't react with appropriate awe, her nostrils flared.

"I'm not a grad student, and this isn't a science project," I explained calmly. "This is experimental cancer treatment data that—"

Before I could finish, Victoria lunged forward and snatched my iPhone from my hand.

"Maybe you need to learn some respect," she hissed, and then deliberately dropped my phone to the ground, grinding her heel into the screen with a sickening crack.

I stared in disbelief at my shattered phone, the shock momentarily paralyzing me. Then I heard a familiar voice—one that had once been my comfort, my future.

"Victoria, darling, there you are."

My head snapped up as Marcus Wellington strode confidently toward us. My heart leapt—until he walked straight past me and wrapped his arm possessively around Victoria's waist.

"Marcus?" My voice came out as barely a whisper.

He turned, his eyes meeting mine with cool detachment before recognition flickered across his face. Not the warm recognition of a lover reuniting after months apart, but the awkward acknowledgment of an inconvenient past.

"Sophia," he said flatly. Then, with deliberate cruelty, he pulled Victoria closer and kissed her deeply, right in front of me.

When they broke apart, Victoria smirked triumphantly. Marcus cleared his throat and addressed the small crowd that had gathered.

"I should probably mention—Victoria and I are engaged to be married next month."

Eight years of my life collapsed around me in an instant as he dismissed our relationship with a casual wave of his hand.

"Sophia and I had a little... graduate-school fling. Ancient history now."

After My Husband Chose His Mistress Over Our Dying Daughter
After My Husband Chose His Mistress Over Our Dying Daughter
While recovering from childbirth, my husband, Damien, was brought home drunk from a bar by some friends, with a woman at his side. He vomited everywhere, and I silently stayed by his side all night. When he finally opened his eyes, the first thing he said was, "She's pregnant. Let's get divorced." I didn't cry or make a scene, just calmly nodded. In my past life, I took my wrapped-up baby out into the street and caused a commotion. Soon, the woman was known as a homewrecker across our small town, and in her despair, she jumped into a river. Damien was fired for misconduct, but he never blamed me. On our daughter's first birthday, he set fire to the yard, killing me, our child, and my parents. In those final moments, I saw his twisted smile as he said, "Go down and keep my Gwendolyn company." Then, I opened my eyes again, back to the moment he told me about the divorce. "Gwendolyn is different from you.
He Married Me Just for Money
He Married Me Just for Money
“Don’t stop,” she whispered. “She won’t come up.” I did. I stopped breathing. Thinking. Existing. The voice came from inside my bedroom—our bedroom. My sanctuary. I stood frozen in the hallway, dinner still warm downstairs, candles flickering in a room that no longer mattered. The scent of truffle butter still clung to my sleeves. Through the door—left carelessly ajar—I saw enough. A woman with auburn hair and wine-colored nails was curled into my husband's side, her lipstick smeared across his throat like a bruise. Her fingers skimmed down his back, possessive, practiced. Oliver moaned softly. A sound I hadn’t heard in months. I didn’t scream. I didn’t cry. I turned. Through the adjoining bathroom, I slipped into the walk-in closet, hiding behind the luxury he insisted I needed. Dresses lined in neat rows. Shoes in pyramids. A fortress of silk and leather and betrayal. I sat down, gripping the hem of my dress, listening. “I don’t know why you’re still stalling,” Lily said, her voice languid and confident. “She’s not stupid, Oliver. She’s suspicious. You said she keeps asking questions.” He sighed. “Let her ask. She won’t do anything. Not until it’s too late.” A beat. “She’s planning something tonight,” he added, almost amused. “Made some kind of fancy dinner. Probably filet again. It’s sweet, in a tragic way.” Lily giggled. “You think she’s figured out we’ve been using her?” “Scarlett sees what she wants to see. She’s desperate. That’s what makes it easy.” There was movement on the bed. Sheets shifting. “She still has no idea about the inheritance?” Lily murmured. “None,” he said. “Her father’s trust releases next month. Once the money hits the accounts, I’ll serve the papers. I’ve already started moving things offshore.” My throat closed. I bit the inside of my cheek so hard I tasted blood. So this was what I got from our five-year marriage.
My Husband Made Her Son His Heir
My Husband Made Her Son His Heir
In the fifth year of our life in America, my husband, Benjamin Sanders, brought Nora Burke and her son straight to our home. "Nora and her son are new here. They'll stay with us for a while." We had a huge fight over this. On my birthday, Benjamin handed me divorce papers, saying, "Sign it quickly, Nora needs a visa, and it'll only be a temporary divorce." I frowned, trying to understand. But Benjamin pointed at me and accused me of being heartless. Not long after, I saw Nora's post on Facebook: "Ben is divorcing for me and the child! Finally, we have a place to call home." Without a word, I liked the post, signed the divorce papers, and applied to return to the UK. When my manager, Arlette Hernandez, saw my application, she seemed surprised. "Kiara, you worked so hard to move here. Why do you want to go back now?" I lowered my head with a bitter smile.

Rejecting Fated Alpha Mate
Rejecting Fated Alpha Mate
The silvery glow of the full moon bathed the festival grounds in an ethereal light as I smoothed down the intricate embroidery of my Luna gown. Six months of meticulous stitching had gone into creating this masterpiece—delicate silver thread forming howling wolves and crescent moons against midnight blue silk. Tonight was special. Tonight, I hoped Blake would finally see me as more than just his fated, yet unmarked mate. "You look beautiful," my wolf Lyra whispered within me. "He'll notice us tonight." "He has to," I replied silently, scanning the crowded pavilion for any sign of Blake's towering figure. The annual Moon Festival was in full swing around me. Pack members danced and laughed, their faces illuminated by the ceremonial bonfire that roared at the center of the gathering. Children darted between adults with moon-shaped cookies clutched in their hands, and the scent of roasted meats and sweet wine hung heavy in the air. Yet despite the festivities, an undercurrent of unease rippled through me.
Slapped by Her Fated Mate
Slapped by Her Fated Mate
My daughter Mallory’s condition worsened suddenly, and she desperately needed her parents with her. Yet, at that moment, Alpha Leo decided to leave to attend the birthday party of Beta Marina’s daughter, Brynleigh. I didn’t stop him, letting him go. In a past life, I had kept him home with our daughter. Meanwhile, Beta Marina and her daughter were left waiting for him on the street and became the target of kidnappers. After her child was taken, Marina was so distraught that she took her own life. Alpha Leo blamed me, vowing I should experience the pain of separation. He began locking Mallory and me in separate rooms during her episodes, forcing me to watch her in distress from a distance. Occasionally, he demanded that we kneel at his beloved Marina’s grave as an act of atonement. Eventually, Mallory succumbed to her illness, and I slipped into depression.
