Bond By The Silverblood

🐺 CHAPTER FIFTEEN - The High Alpha Arrives

The sanctuary trembled long before he appeared.

Birds fled from the treetops, the streams stilled, and even the wind seemed to hide. A heavy pressure settled over the valley-ancient, suffocating, undeniable. Lyra felt it in her bones. This wasn't just presence.

It was dominance.

Kael stood at the entrance of the cave, jaw tight, body coiled like a wolf ready for war. His silver eyes glowed faintly, the mark on his chest pulsing in warning.

"He's close," Kael murmured, voice tense. "Stay behind me, no matter what."

Lyra moved beside him anyway. "I won't hide."

He shot her a sharp look, somewhere between frustration and fierce pride. "Lyra-"

But he didn't finish.

He couldn't.

Because the air cracked with power.

A figure stepped out from the mist of the forest-tall, broad-shouldered, with hair like midnight and eyes that burned with golden fire. His presence was magnetic and terrifying, ancient authority wrapped in unshakable calm.

The High Alpha.

His voice rolled through the valley like thunder.

"Kaelan Darkbane."

Kael straightened.

"High Alpha."

The High Alpha's golden gaze slid toward Lyra-cold, assessing, sharp enough to split stone. Her breath hitched. Instinct told her not to look into his eyes, but she forced herself to hold his gaze. She refused to bow.

A dangerous flicker of interest passed through his expression.

"So," he said slowly, "this is the human girl who bears the Silverblood Oath."

Lyra's pulse pounded in her ears.

Kael stepped forward, blocking the High Alpha's view of her.

"She is under my protection."

The High Alpha raised a brow.

"Your protection? Or your possession?"

Kael's eyes flashed with silver fury.

"She is my equal. My bonded partner. The Oath chose her."

A chilling silence followed.

Then the High Alpha laughed-quiet, mocking, deadly.

"The Oath doesn't choose without consequence. You defied the Council when you took the girl. You broke sacred law."

Kael didn't flinch.

"I would break it again."

Lyra felt the Oath pulse violently, reacting to Kael's words, binding them closer, brighter, fiercer.

The High Alpha's expression darkened.

"You risk war for a bond you barely understand."

Lyra stepped forward before Kael could stop her.

"If you want to judge someone, judge me. I didn't ask for this power, but I won't run from it."

She met his golden gaze head-on.

"I won't let you break the Oath."

The High Alpha's eyes burned hotter.

"Little human," he said softly, "you misunderstand. I have no intention of breaking the Oath."

Kael stiffened. "Then why are you here?"

The High Alpha turned his gaze toward the sky, where the early moon glowed faintly even in daylight.

"I am here," he said, voice thick with ancient warning,

"because the Oath has awakened a prophecy that has slept for centuries."

Lyra's heart faltered. "What prophecy?"

He looked directly at her.

"The prophecy of the Moonbound Queen."

Kael inhaled sharply.

"No. That prophecy is myth. A legend."

"It is no myth," the High Alpha said. "And your human carries the first sign."

Lyra's mark flared with sudden heat, glowing through her shirt. She gasped, clutching her shoulder.

The High Alpha stepped closer, his power swirling around her like a storm.

"You are not merely bonded," he said. "You are becoming."

Lyra's voice trembled. "Becoming what?"

The High Alpha's answer sent a shiver through the earth itself.

"The future ruler of every wolfborn pack."

Silence crashed over the sanctuary.

Kael moved faster than thought, placing himself between Lyra and the High Alpha.

"You will not touch her."

The High Alpha's eyes narrowed-not in anger, but in calculation.

"Oh, Kael," he murmured, "you still do not understand. If she fully awakens... she will not need your protection."

Lyra's heart pounded. Her breathing turned shallow.

Becoming a queen? A leader of all wolves?

That couldn't be true.

It felt impossible.

It felt wrong.

But her mark burned like fire.

And deep in her bones, something stirred. Something powerful.

Something ancient.

The High Alpha stepped back, his cloak brushing the ground.

"I will return in three days," he said. "By then, the girl's transformation will begin."

Kael growled. "You can't force-"

"I am not forcing anything," the High Alpha said sharply. "The moon has chosen her. And fate will not wait for your feelings to catch up."

With those final words, he vanished into mist.

Leaving silence.

Leaving fear.

Leaving destiny behind with them.

Lyra turned to Kael, her voice barely a whisper.

"Kael... what is happening to me?"

He pulled her close, his heartbeat wild against hers.

"I don't know," he whispered. "But I swear-I will not let anyone take you away from me."

The Oath flared-bright, violent, claiming.

Three days until the transformation.

Three days until the prophecy began.

And three days until everything changed.
