Chapter 1 of Blinded By Love, My Husband Let His First Love Kill Our Child
I had been married to James Klawn, the so-called Crown Prince of Philadelphia’s elite circle, for years. I bore him a son and everyone assumed our child would one day inherit the Klawn Family legacy.
Then, tragedy struck.
Our son was kidnapped in a brutal act that shattered me to the core. I begged James to help me find him. But instead, he brought Natalie Muller into our home—introducing her as his “sister.”
While I was drowning in despair, a lead finally surfaced. I rushed to the scene immediately, only to find my son’s lifeless body—his small frame showing signs of abuse, his life snuffed out.
I collapsed on the spot. When I regained consciousness, I overheard a conversation between my husband and his mother.
“Mom,” James said, “this wasn’t Natalie’s fault. She was just trying to tease Samuel. No one expected he’d have a heart attack.”
My blood turned to ice.
Natalie? She was the one who kidnapped—and killed—my son?
And James knew?
Why didn’t he tell me?
Fury roared through my chest and darkness threatened my vision. Just as I prepared to confront him, I heard his mother snap.
“Are you really doing this to protect Amy and Samuel? What will you say to Amy Brosst when she finds out the truth?”
James sighed in annoyance. “I’ll make it up to Amy. She doesn’t have a son anymore—so I’ll give her another. Simple as that.”
“Besides, she was just a street beggar when I picked her up. I let her be Mrs. Klawn for all these years. That should be enough.”
I was shaking.
So in his eyes, my son was replaceable?
And I... was nothing more than a beggar he decided to help?
Tears spilled down my cheeks. Yet his voice kept drilling into my ears.
“If you never liked her, why marry her in the first place?” his mother asked.
He scoffed. “I only married her because she looked like Natalie. Why else would I marry someone so useless?”
“You’re going to marry Natalie? The woman who killed Samuel? That boy may have been born to Amy, but he was your son too!”
James’s expression turned to stone. “I told you already—Samuel died of a heart attack. Natalie is not a murderer!”
His mother tried once more to reason with him. But he crushed his cigarette, his tone icy.
“That’s enough. I’ll take care of this. Amy doesn’t need to know.”
“And now that Natalie is back, I owe her an apology.”
But I already knew everything.
Looking at his face—so familiar, yet suddenly that of a stranger—I felt a wave of confusion wash over me.
Seven years ago, my father had fallen gravely ill. His treatment would cost seven hundred thousand dollar. I was desperate.
I worked three jobs a day, surviving on stale buns, selling items on the street. I met all kinds of people—but no one who could truly help.
The hospital bills crushed me. Eventually, we were thrown out.
In the depths of my despair, I dragged my father through the streets, begging for help.
That’s when James appeared.
He said he fell in love with me the first time he saw me from his car. He asked me to marry him.
I agreed—but only if he paid for my father’s surgery.
He didn’t hesitate. He paid the bill, cared for me and supported my career with gentle encouragement.
Back then, when his mother objected to me—angrily pointing out that I was just a street beggar—it was James who defended me.
“If I ever end up in that kind of situation,” he had said, “I’d want someone like Amy by my side.”
“A person who can swallow their pride for the sake of family—that’s the kind of strength I admire.”
His words still echoed in my heart.
And yet now, I was nothing more than “a beggar” in his eyes.
