Chapter 1 of Assistant hid a needle; I ended the marriage.
I came home from a business trip and found a needle in my pajamas.
I filed for divorce directly with Victoria Lancaster.
Victoria yelled at me in shock and anger: "Alexander Sterling, are you crazy?"
"You're going to divorce me just because there's a needle in your pajamas?"
Her assistant, Chase Delaney, pretended to be panicked and aggrieved and said to me, "Mr. Sterling, Ms. Lancaster asked me to take your pajamas to Laundry Express a few days ago. They must have accidentally put this needle in your pajamas."
"This is all my fault. Please don't get into a conflict with Ms. Lancaster over such a small matter!"
I ignored Chase and insisted on getting a divorce.
Victoria laughed in anger and said, "Since you are so determined to get a divorce, I will grant your wish."
"However, you have to forfeit all marital assets. After all, you are our Lancaster family's son-in-law. Even if we divorce, you can't take a penny with you."
"I want to see who will want you after you leave me!"
I signed the divorce agreement and walked out of the house without looking back.
After leaving the Lancaster family, I made a phone call and asked, "Have you sorted out the overseas inheritance left to me by my Great-Uncle Howard?"
A respectful voice came from the other end of the line: "We've made a preliminary estimate. Mr. Lancaster's legacy is so vast that it will take about a month to sort it out."
"Alexander, if you dare to walk out of this house today, you will never come back!"
Victoria behind me shouted at me angrily.
Chase even said to me hypocritically, "Mr. Sterling, you must not divorce Ms. Lancaster out of spite over such a small matter!"
"It's all my fault. If I hadn't been so careless, things wouldn't have turned out like this."
When saying this, Chase pretended to look aggrieved and pitiful.
Victoria said softly to Chase, "This isn't your fault. You didn't put the needle in his pajamas on purpose. He was just being petty and wrongly blaming you."
Then, Victoria snapped at me impatiently, "It was Laundry Express's fault. Why are you losing your temper and blaming it on Chase?"
"Alexander, could you please not be so petty?"
"I'll give you one last chance. As long as you take back what you said and apologize to me and Chase, I'll forgive you!"
Without looking back, I said calmly, "Victoria, if you have time, go to the hospital for a check-up!"
"For the sake of our marriage, let me remind you that Chase is not clean."
As soon as I said this, Chase's face changed.
There was a flash of shock and anger in his eyes when he looked at me, as if I had exposed his scar.
He pretended to be sad and angry and said to me, "Mr. Sterling, I know you have always disliked me."
"Ever since I joined the company, you've been targeting me in every way, and I've put up with it all."
"But you can't slander me like that!"
"Forget it. I know you used this excuse to file for divorce from Ms. Lancaster today just to threaten her and get her to fire me!"
"Although I'm just a nobody in your eyes, I still have dignity. You don't have to force Ms. Lancaster to fire me. I'll just resign on my own initiative, okay?"
I have to say, Chase's acting talent is really good.
At this moment, he fully portrayed the grievance and grief of a small person who was oppressed.
Victoria looked at Chase with a distressed expression, and then said to me angrily, "Alexander, how can you be so vicious?"
