After My Alpha Killed Our Pup for an Heir Summary

At 9:47 p.m., alone with the Thanksgiving dishes, I answered a buzz I should have let die. The notice claimed Blackridge Estate—4.2 acres, seven figures—belonged to our daughter Khloe. Our Khloe, who vanished. Nathan had slipped away hours before on unnamed Alpha business, leaving me with nothing but questions and a growing dread. Now I'm following the paper trail of a mate who buried our child, chasing forbidden answers through pack law and old blood. Each clue draws me deeper into a mystery where the man I loved may be the monster I fear.

Chapter 1 of After My Alpha Killed Our Pup for an Heir

The phone buzzed against the counter at 9:47 p.m., screen lighting up the granite like a struck match.

I was drying the last of the Thanksgiving dishes, alone, because Nathan had left an hour into dinner for "Alpha business" he didn't bother naming. I almost let the phone buzz itself dark again. Instead I wiped my hands on the dish towel and picked it up.

Territory tax notice. Blackridge Estate, 4.2 acres, assessed value seven figures. Registered owner: Khloe Olson.

I read it twice. The words didn't rearrange themselves into something that made sense the second time either. Our Khloe. The Omega who slept in the room off the kitchen, who I'd taught to fold fitted sheets, who I paid eighty dollars a week out of my own household allotment because Nathan said the pack couldn't spare more.

I set the phone face-down on the table and sat with my hands folded on top of it, and I went very still, the way I go still when something in me already knows before the rest of me is ready to.

Nathan came home an hour later smelling like cold air and nothing else — no explanation in his scent, which should have told me something nine years ago. He saw the phone. He saw my face. "That's Rhett's," he said, already reaching for it. "Beta favor, his cousin's name got tangled in the filing. I told you finances are thin — you think I'm buying real estate?" He laughed, short and easy, like the sound alone was supposed to close the subject. Then, softer, almost wounded: "You went through my phone, Anya."

I didn't answer. I let him believe silence meant surrender.

He was gone again within the hour. I took the spare study key from the lining of my winter coat, the one I'd copied years ago for emergencies and never once used, and I let myself into the room I had never been permitted to enter.

The locked drawer held nine years of transfers routed through three shell accounts I recognized from the pack ledgers I balanced every month. It held the Blackridge deed. It held a birth certificate.

*Oaklee Rivera. Father: Nathan Rivera. Mother: Khloe Olson.* Date of birth eight months after Khloe first knocked on our pack house door with a bruised wrist and a story about a pack that threw her out.

My hands did not shake while I photographed every page. I noticed that, distantly, the way you notice a stranger's calm during a car accident.

Blackridge glowed gold through its front windows when I got there, engine off, parked on the shoulder like a woman who had lost the right to knock. Through the glass I watched Nathan lift a small girl — his eyes, unmistakably his eyes — to press a star onto a Christmas tree. Elena laughed and passed ornaments to Khloe, whose belly was round under a soft gray sweater. Sable sat by the fire, not frail, not dying, just warm and comfortable in a chair he'd told me for years he couldn't manage the stairs to reach.

A whole family. Running for nine Christmases inside the life I thought I was holding up alone.

I kicked the door open.

The birth certificate hit the dining table hard enough to skid. The room froze — ornament halfway to a branch, laughter cut mid-breath. Nathan recovered first, stepping in front of Khloe, who shrank behind him with one hand sliding to her stomach.

"Anya, this isn't — you're overreacting, the timing is—"

"Oaklee." My voice came out quiet. Quieter than I expected. "Say her name to my face."

He stopped reframing. "Khloe's carrying my son," he said instead, flat, final. "My heir. The pack needs this."

Elena's composure cracked before mine did. "You were never meant to produce an heir," she spat, stepping forward, hair still perfectly smooth. "Nathan made sure of that years ago — he laced your prenatal blend himself, concentrated wolfsbane, killed that pup before it ever drew breath and caged your wolf so it could never—"

Sable's hand closed on her arm too late.

The words landed inside me and stayed there, whole, sealed — the bond holding them the way it had once held every tender thing Nathan ever said to me, except this time I felt it lock the memory in place like a fist closing.

I did not scream. I did not break.

"I am calling for a Lycan Council tribunal," I said, into the silence that had swallowed the room whole. "For the wolfsbane poisoning of a Luna. For the murder of an unborn pup. For nine years of stolen pack resources."

Nathan's face didn't move.

Behind him, Khloe's hand slid slowly off her stomach.
