After Husband's Affair Unveiled

The lab was quiet at eleven PM, just the hum of equipment and the soft clink of my teaspoon against porcelain. I sat at my desk reviewing the final patent data, numbers I'd spent two years perfecting. Chamomile tea steamed beside my laptop—a small luxury I allowed myself during these late nights. The front door clicked open downstairs. Drake was home. I glanced at the time. Later than usual, even for him. I saved my work and headed down, finding him in the kitchen, loosening his tie with one hand while scrolling through his phone with the other. "Hey." I managed a smile, though exhaustion pulled at my bones. "Long mentoring session?" He looked up, and something flickered across his face before his expression smoothed into warmth.

Chapter 1 of After Husband's Affair Unveiled

"Long mentoring session?"

He looked up, and something flickered across his face before his expression smoothed into warmth. "You know how it is. These students need so much guidance." He crossed to me, pressing a kiss to my forehead. "You're still up? Elle, you work too hard."

That's when I caught it—a perfume that wasn't mine. Light, floral, young. It clung to his collar as he pulled away.

My stomach tightened, but I pushed the thought aside. Drake worked with students all day. Of course he'd smell like the university.

"Almost done with the patent data," I said, watching his reaction.

His eyes sharpened with an intensity that seemed disproportionate. "Really? That's incredible, darling." He stepped closer, his hand finding my waist. "When do you submit?"

"After the University Gala. Next week."

"That's my brilliant wife." But there was something in his voice—not pride exactly. More like satisfaction. Like checking off an item on a list.

He opened the refrigerator, and I noticed him frown at the box of expensive loose-leaf tea on the counter. "Did you buy more of that overpriced stuff? Elle, we've talked about unnecessary expenses."

The words stung more than they should have. It was fifteen dollars. I made my own salary. But I just nodded, too tired to argue.

What I didn't see was the receipt in his jacket pocket—eight hundred dollars for a designer bag. Not for me.

Three days later, I stood in Drake's home office, looking for an old photo he'd mentioned from our college days. He was out, some faculty meeting that would run late. I opened his desk drawer, pushing past papers and old chargers.

That's when I found it. His backup phone.

I shouldn't have looked. That's what I told myself even as my fingers wrapped around it. It was probably nothing. Dead battery, forgotten device.

But it wasn't dead. It powered on immediately, and there was no lock screen.

The messaging app was already open.

Sasha's name stared back at me. Sasha West—his scholarship student. The girl who'd been my bridesmaid, who'd smiled so sweetly in all our wedding photos.

I scrolled up. One message became ten. Ten became a hundred. Two years of messages. Two years of my marriage.

"Can't wait to see you tonight, baby. Wear that red dress I bought you."

"Elle's so clueless. She actually thanked me for being such a 'supportive bridesmaid.' God, that was priceless."

"Once the patent goes through, I can finally leave her. Just a little longer, Sash. I promise."

My hands went numb. The phone nearly slipped from my grip.

I kept scrolling, each message a new laceration. There were photos—Sasha in designer bags, Sasha in our bed when I'd been at conferences, Sasha wearing lingerie I'd never seen.

The latest message was from an hour ago. "Missing you. Can't wait until this charade is over."

I stood there in his office, surrounded by the books we'd chosen together, the photo of our wedding day on his desk—Sasha smiling in the background, knowing.

My vision blurred, but I didn't cry. Something colder settled in my chest, something that felt like clarity crystalizing from betrayal.

I heard the shower start upstairs. Drake had come home while I'd been frozen in his office.

Moving on autopilot, I went to his laptop. He always left it open, trusted me completely. Why wouldn't he? I was the naive professor's daughter, too busy with research to notice her husband's second life.

I found the folder within minutes. Legal documents, all prepared by his attorney. Patent transfer agreements with my signature—forged, I realized with sick certainty. Shell companies I'd never heard of. Dates and details about the University Gala next week.

He'd planned it perfectly. The gala where I'd present my research. The celebration of my life's work. And immediately after, he'd file these documents, strip me of everything I'd built, and leave me for the woman who'd stood beside me at my wedding.

My phone was in my hand before I'd decided to move. I photographed everything—every document, every page, every forged signature.

The shower shut off upstairs.

I closed the laptop carefully, returned the backup phone to exactly where I'd found it, and walked out of his office.

My legs carried me to the kitchen. I poured myself a glass of water with steady hands. When Drake came down, hair still damp, reaching for me with that perfect smile, I let him pull me close.

"You okay?" he asked. "You look pale."

"Just tired," I said. "Long day."

He kissed my temple, and I smelled that perfume again. Sasha's perfume.

"Get some rest," he murmured. "Big week ahead."

"Yes," I agreed, my voice calm. "It certainly is."

He had no idea that everything had just changed. That the naive wife he'd been counting on had just woken up.

And she was done playing his game.

In those final moments, I saw his twisted smile as he said, "Go down and keep my Gwendolyn company." Then, I opened my eyes again, back to the moment he told me about the divorce. "Gwendolyn is different from you.

Rejected by the Alpha, Claimed by the King
Rejected by the Alpha, Claimed by the King
I stared at the financial records spread across my kitchen table, my fingers trembling as I traced the columns of numbers. Three years. Three years since I'd forgiven Oliver for his affair with that rogue she-wolf, Summer Wilson. Three years of rebuilding our mate bond, of raising our daughter Hope, of believing we'd moved past his betrayal. And now this. "Large withdrawals," I whispered, circling the figures with my pen. "Every month for... two years." The amounts were substantial—more than what we spent on pack supplies. More than what we allocated for Hope's education. The destination was always listed as "security expenses," but the pattern was too regular, too consistent.

I'd supported him for ten years, from a lowly pack member to the powerful Alpha of Moonridge Pack. What if this was just another misunderstanding?
