Tying Her Laces: The Devil's Submission Summary

Sloane believed the elite academy's brutal boot camp would be her hardest test—until her childhood rival, Julian Astor IV, reappears. That's when her cabin mate Blair, consumed by jealousy over Julian's secret protection, launches a campaign to break her. First, Blair steals Sloane's mandatory uniform belt, leaving her publicly humiliated and forced to endure grueling drills in freezing mud before the entire freshman class. Then, during a 2 AM emergency drill, Blair exposes Sloane's hidden snacks, branding her a rule-breaker and condemning her to endless laps in the cold. Chapter 1 of Tying Her Laces: The Devil's Submission

The yellow school bus exhaled a loud hiss of air brakes as it stopped on the paved driveway of the elite academy.

Sloane Kensington stepped off, her shoulders immediately sagging under the weight of her heavy canvas backpack. The August heat was already suffocating, pressing down on her chest like a physical weight.

She navigated through the crowded courtyard, ignoring the excited chatter of other freshmen. Her eyes were locked solely on the main bulletin board standing near the entrance. She needed to know her homeroom assignment. She needed to know she was free.

Sloane pushed past a group of tall boys blocking the board. She stood on her tiptoes, her finger tracing down the freshly printed homeroom lists.

Her fingernail stopped under Homeroom 101. She let out a deep breath, the tight knot in her stomach loosening. She made it into the advanced track.

Then, her eyes drifted exactly one line up.

Julian Astor IV.

Printed in bold, arrogant letters right above hers.

Sloane groaned out loud. Her hands dropped to her sides, her shoulders slumping in absolute despair. Four years. She had spent four years of middle school blissfully free of her childhood nemesis, and now, on the first day of high school, he was back.

A familiar scent of mint and sharp cedarwood washed over her. The hairs on the back of her neck stood up.

A tall figure stepped up right behind her, completely invading her personal space.

"Congratulations, Sloane," a deep voice whispered, his breath brushing the shell of her ear. "You didn't escape me."

Sloane spun around. She glared up at Julian's smug, impossibly handsome face. She crossed her arms tightly over her chest, her nails digging into her own sleeves.

Julian chuckled. The sound was low and vibrating. He reached out, his long fingers flicking her forehead lightly. He entirely ignored the murderous expression on her face.

Sloane swatted his hand away, her palm slapping against his wrist.

"We are pretending not to know each other this year," Sloane declared loudly, making sure the students nearby could hear. "I don't know you."

Julian didn't flinch. He slowly stuffed his hands into the pockets of his tailored uniform pants. He raised a single, challenging eyebrow, looking down at her with a gaze that physically pinned her in place. He was silently daring her to try.

Sloane turned on her heel. She marched away from the bulletin board, her heart hammering against her ribs. She was determined to find a seat in that classroom as far away from him as physically possible.

She walked down the long, polished corridor. She turned the corner and pushed open the heavy wooden door of Homeroom 101.

Sloane stepped into the classroom. She quickly scanned the rows of pristine desks. She chose one near the back window, dropping her heavy bag onto the floor with a loud thud.

She sat down, pulling her notebook out.

A second later, the chair next to her scraped loudly against the linoleum floor.

Julian casually dropped into the seat right beside her. He stretched his long legs out into the narrow aisle, effectively blocking anyone else from getting near her desk.

Sloane glared at him, her jaw clenching.

"Move," she hissed.

Julian just smirked. He pulled out a black notebook, not even looking at her.

The classroom door opened wider. Blair Montgomery walked into the room. Her perfect blonde hair bounced with every step. Her eyes immediately locked onto Julian.

Blair glided over to Julian's desk. She flashed a dazzling, practiced smile.

"Hi," Blair said, her voice dripping with honey. "Is the seat in front of you taken?"

Julian barely glanced up from his phone. His face, which had just been smirking at Sloane, turned into a mask of pure ice.

"Yes," Julian said. A cold, one-word dismissal that instantly froze Blair's smile.

Blair awkwardly took the seat anyway, her posture stiffening. She shot a quick, assessing glare over her shoulder at Sloane. Her eyes narrowed, trying to figure out who this girl was and why Julian was sitting next to her.

The homeroom teacher, Evelyn Reed, entered the room. She clapped her hands sharply, demanding immediate silence.

Evelyn stepped up to the wooden podium. She projected a strict, no-nonsense aura as she welcomed the freshman elite class.

"To save time," Evelyn announced, her voice echoing in the quiet room. "I have pre-selected the class officers based on your entrance exam scores."

She looked down at her clipboard.

"Julian Astor IV will be your Class President."

Murmurs of awe rippled through the room. Blair looked back at Julian, her eyes shining with renewed admiration.

Julian stood up lazily. He gave a brief, polite nod to the teacher before sitting back down, completely unfazed by the attention.

Evelyn then called out Willow Hayes as Vice President. A quiet, serious girl near the front nodded respectfully.

Sloane sank lower in her chair. Her stomach twisted with fresh annoyance.

"Great," Sloane whispered under her breath. "More power for you to annoy me."

Beneath the desk, a heavy sneaker nudged against Sloane's ankle.

Julian leaned slightly toward her.

"You," Julian whispered back, his voice thick with a promise, "are my first order of business."
