Ellen looked out through the window, the scenery outside her room was truly breathtaking. The beach, the trees, and even the peaches all blended into a view that felt almost unreal in its beauty.
She stepped away from the window and walked over to the couch in her room, sinking into it slowly. Leaning her head backward, her mind began to wander as different thoughts flooded in without restraint.
She could still vividly remember how Damien had called her up to the stage, only to humiliate her in front of the entire pack, rejecting her in such a cruel manner as though she had no feelings at all.
If there was one mission she was determined to accomplish, it was getting her revenge on him, but there was one major problem-how exactly was she going to do that?
There was no way she could accept him as her mate. Doing so would feel like a betrayal to her late parents from her previous life. Even to herself, it was unacceptable. Agreeing to become the Luna of the very man who had killed her in her past life? No... she simply couldn't.
Ellen was pulled back to reality by a knock on her door. The sound came repeatedly until she finally stood up from the couch and walked toward it.
"Hey... Annabel! I've missed you so much..." the lady exclaimed immediately the door opened, pulling Ellen into a tight embrace before she could even process what was happening.
"Annabel, I thought I wouldn't see you again. I didn't believe it when my dad told me this morning that you've been awake for the past three days... oh, my bestie, I have missed you," the lady continued rambling, hugging her again warmly, though Ellen could not fully return the feeling since she didn't even know who she was.
"Annabel, you aren't saying anything. Did you forget me? But if there's anyone you shouldn't forget, it's me... Annabel, we've come a long way since we were little, but I guess it isn't your fault. I'm Zoe, your best friend," the lady introduced herself, her eyes already glossy with tears, though she tried to hide it behind a persistent smile.
"I'm sorry if you're feeling bad right now, but I can't help it either. I don't find it funny not remembering my loved ones," Ellen replied, trying her best to sound as emotional as possible.
"No... no, it's not your fault. I just missed you so much," Zoe said, her voice trembling as tears finally slipped down her cheeks.
Ellen pulled her into another hug, gently wiping away the tears from her face. She didn't like the fact that she had taken over Annabel's body, but there was nothing she could do about it.
"Annabel, I am so, so surprised about everything happening right now. Seriously, I am," Zoe said when they both moved inside the room and sat on the couch, each holding a glass of coffee.
"About what?" Ellen asked, turning to face her with confusion.
"Remember how you always hated Alpha mates? You used to say that if your mate turned out to be an Alpha, you would reject him. But now look at you-two Alphas are fighting over you," Zoe explained with a light chuckle as she sipped her coffee.
"You know people change, and I'm not an exception," Ellen replied calmly.
"But among your two mates, which one do you like? Or are you planning to be the Luna of both Alphas? That's impossible, though," Zoe added, rolling her eyes at her own words.
"I don't know yet, but one thing is certain-I will never be with both of them," Ellen said, raising her glass to her lips and taking a sip before placing it back on the stool in front of them.
Later, Ellen stepped out of the bathroom and walked to her closet. She picked out a black boob short and a pink half singlet, quickly changing into them before heading outside to the backyard. She stood there, staring at the beach as the soft breeze brushed against her skin.
After Zoe had left earlier that afternoon, one question lingered in her mind-Which of the two Alphas do you like?
She knew for a fact that she could never feel even the slightest bit of affection for Damien... but then there was Caine.
"Hey, darling, enjoying the beautiful night breeze?" her father's voice pulled her back to reality.
She turned to look at him and smiled softly as he sat beside her on the bench.
"How have you been?" he asked, placing his hands gently on her shoulders, his eyes fixed on hers.
"It's been fine. Zoe came by today," Ellen replied, meeting his gaze.
"You remember Zoe, don't you?" he asked, his brows slightly furrowed. He could only imagine the pain his daughter must be going through-not remembering the people she once loved.
"I don't, Dad," Ellen said quietly, turning her gaze back to the ocean.
"Don't worry, you will soon. Zoe is my Beta's only daughter, and you two have been friends since you were very young," Felix explained gently, his hands still resting on her shoulders.
"Okay, Dad," she replied with a soft smile, savoring the feeling of having someone she could call family-someone who loved and cared for her deeply.
"Love, enjoy yourself. I'll be right back," Felix said before standing up and heading toward his study.
Ellen bent down, picking up small pebbles from the ground near the beach and tossing them into the water one after the other. She had thought her second life would be simpler, that she would focus solely on revenge, but now she was faced with something far more complicated-two mates.
"Ahhhhhhh..." Ellen cried out suddenly as a hand forcefully covered her nostrils with a piece of cloth. Her body struggled for a moment before everything faded into darkness.
