Chapter 1 of Trapped By The Ruthless Wall Street Tyrant

A dull ache radiated from the small of her back, a familiar soreness that had settled deep into her bones. Eleanor woke with a gasp, tangled in silk sheets that felt cold against her skin. She tried to shift, to slide out of the bed without disturbing the man beside her, but a sharp pain in her hips sent her collapsing back onto the mattress.

He stirred.

Axel Cochran's eyes opened, and there was no trace of sleep in their clear, gray-blue depths. It was the gaze of a predator, always alert. His arm, heavy with muscle, snaked around her waist and yanked her back against him.

"Where do you think you're going?" His voice was a low rumble against her ear, devoid of warmth.

Forced against his searingly hot chest, Eleanor felt a sudden, violent spasm in her stomach. A wave of nausea churned upwards, and the color drained from her face. She bit down hard on her lower lip, the small pain a desperate anchor against the rising sickness.

He felt the tension in her body instantly. His fingers traced the delicate skin of her nape, a deceptively gentle touch. "What's wrong?"

The question was casual, but the undertone was sharp, dangerous.

The acidic bile surged into her throat. She couldn't hold it back. Shoving his arm away with a strength born of panic, she scrambled from the bed. Her bare feet stumbled on the plush carpet as she fled towards the en-suite bathroom.

The door slammed shut behind her.

She gripped the cold marble of the vanity, her body wracked with dry heaves. Nothing came up. In the vast mirror, her own reflection stared back-a pale, haunted woman with a constellation of dark bruises blooming on her neck. A profound sense of despair washed over her.

The door was shoved open with such force that it hit the wall with a crack.

Axel stood in the doorway, a black silk robe loosely tied at his waist. His tall, broad frame blocked the light, casting her in shadow.

He watched her, his expression unreadable. His gaze traveled from her pale face, down her trembling form, and then stopped, fixing on her flat stomach. The temperature in the room plummeted.

"I... I think I caught a chill," Eleanor stammered, fumbling to turn on the faucet. The sound of rushing water filled the suffocating silence. She splashed her face, her voice shaking. "My stomach is just upset."

Axel didn't say a word. He turned and walked out of the bathroom.

For a single, fleeting moment, Eleanor thought she was safe. Then she heard his voice from the bedroom, low and imperious, speaking into his phone.

"Clear out the clinic on Park Avenue. Now. I want results within the hour."

The blood in her veins turned to ice. She rushed out of the bathroom, her wet hands leaving damp prints on the doorframe. "Axel, no, you don't have to-"

He caught her chin in a ruthless grip, forcing her head up. His eyes, cold and sharp as shards of glass, bored into hers.

His thumb swiped brutally across her damp lip. "You better pray there's nothing in there, Eleanor."

He snatched a towel from a nearby chair and threw it at her face. "Get dressed. Now."

There was no pity in his voice. Only cold command.

"I can leave," she pleaded, her fingers clutching the soft terry cloth. The fabric was a flimsy shield against his wrath. "I'll leave New York. You'll never see me again."

A harsh, humorless laugh escaped his lips. He grabbed her wrist, his grip like steel, and dragged her out of the bathroom. "A Vaughn doesn't get to have choices."

He threw her onto the floor of the massive walk-in closet. She landed on a soft rug, the impact jarring her already aching body. She watched, numb, as he methodically dressed himself in a bespoke suit, transforming back into the Wall Street tyrant the world knew.

He knotted his tie with practiced ease, his reflection in the mirror perfect and severe. He looked down at her, a crumpled thing on his floor.

He tossed a simple, drab grey dress at her feet. "You have three minutes. Or you can walk out of here naked."

Humiliation, hot and sharp, made her tremble. But she knew resistance was futile. It only ever made things worse. Turning her back to him, she quickly shed the robe and pulled the shapeless dress over her head. It felt like a uniform of shame.

In the mirror, Axel watched her defiant back, his expression darkening. He hated anything that was not under his complete control.

When she was done, she stood like a marionette with its strings cut. He stepped forward and roughly adjusted the collar of her dress.

He leaned in close, his breath a cold whisper against her ear. "Remember your place. You are not worthy of bearing a Cochran heir."

Her heart seized. Her eyes, wide and red-rimmed, flew to his, but no words would come out.

He seemed pleased by the raw hatred in her gaze. It was far more interesting to him than her empty, broken look.

He straightened up, his cold, powerful mask back in place. "Follow me."

She followed him out of the room, each step on the cold marble floor like walking on knives, towards a door that led only to a colder hell.

The black Maybach moved silently through the congested Manhattan streets. The privacy divider was raised, sealing them in a suffocating, leather-scented capsule. Eleanor pressed herself against the car door, trying to create as much distance as possible.

Axel was on a call, discussing a corporate merger with the same detached tone he used for everything. His peripheral vision caught her attempt to shrink away. With a slight frown, he ended the call, then seized her wrist and hauled her across the seat.

She collided with his hard shoulder, her hand instinctively flying to her abdomen.

The small, protective gesture did not go unnoticed. Axel's eyes narrowed into dangerous slits.

He ripped the bluetooth earpiece from his ear. "Don't bother acting out some touching maternal drama," he sneered, his fingers digging into her chin. "That bastard is not going to be born."

The car glided to a stop in front of an impossibly discreet, high-end private clinic on the Upper East Side, a place that catered exclusively to New York's elite.

The driver opened the door. Axel got out first. Seeing Eleanor frozen in her seat, he leaned back in, his arm hooking around her waist, and dragged her out onto the sidewalk.

The clinic's interior was as lavish as a five-star hotel. It was utterly silent, completely cleared of other patients. A man in his fifties with a kind face and terrified eyes, Dr. Evans, stood waiting by the elevator with two nurses.

"Mr. Cochran."

Axel ignored the greeting. He pushed Eleanor towards the nurses. "Full blood panel. Ultrasound. I want the gestational age confirmed."

She was led into a cold examination room. She complied mechanically as they drew her blood, the prick of the needle a distant, insignificant pain. She closed her eyes as tears she refused to let Axel see finally slipped free.

Then came the ultrasound. The cold gel on her stomach made her flinch. The technician moved the probe, and on the screen beside her, a tiny, flickering black dot appeared.

Her heart, which she thought had already shattered, was squeezed tight by an invisible hand.

A nurse handed the printed sonogram to Axel, who was waiting just outside. He stared down at the flimsy piece of paper, at the undeniable proof. For a split second, a flicker of something unreadable—something complex—crossed his face before it was gone.

Dr. Evans approached him, holding a file. "Mr. Cochran, the HCG levels confirm it. She's approximately six weeks pregnant." He paused, his voice low and deferential. "What are your instructions?"
