Too Late to Chase Me, Beta Nathan

Nathan pushed me aside and rushed after his ex-girlfriend in panic. Her running away from him is probably a signal for him to start his chase-after-her mission. “Shannon, wait!”

“Nathan!” I called after him, but my voice only echoed in the air. I was left sitting there at the table all by myself, looking like the dumb fiancee who doesn’t know what the fuck is going on.

Nathan once told me that Shannon easily got jealous and would always tend to cry every time he saw her with another woman.

That’s also maybe the reason why she left him, according to my fiance, because Nathan is friendly towards females and Shannon doesn’t like that.

She wants to be the only woman in his life. The only woman he'll look at, he'll touch and kiss and smell.

“Miss, your arm!” An Omega waitress shrieked.

My mind was too focused on both of them that I didn’t noticed the bowl of soup burned my arm when Beta Nathan stood abruptly and chased after Shannon.

When I wiped myself clean, I returned home alone. My heart cracked last night because of the shaking of his head as his answer, and now it has become utterly broken because of what happened.

I video-called my brother who was on another pack for business, crying.

“Alpha, I’ve thought about the arranged marriage you mentioned...” I paused to take a deep breath, wiping my tears with the back of my hand. “I’m now agreeing to marry Alpha Gerald of the Black Stone Pack!”

Even my brother on the other line inhaled a sharp breath. “That’s so random, Mor. What happened? Did Beta Nathan cheat on you?”

“Uhmmm...” I hesitated. But my Alpha, my older brother, seemed to already guessed correctly just by my tone and quiet sobs. “Not really.”

He chuckled. “That’s the reason why Nathan is no longer my right-hand Beta really. Though since he came from a prestigious Beta family, he remains as a White Woods Pack’s Beta.”

With my brother’s explanation, I know he’s not only concerned for me. He’s also worried for the pack now that I decided to marry another Alpha from another pack even when I’m engaged to a Beta from our pack.

Well, not anymore.

“Does your decision have to do with Shannon Price’s return? I’ve heard about it and I’m kind of glad I’m not around to see the drama unfolds. You know how that woman likes to stir drama wherever she goes.”

I forced a smile, despite the bitterness rising in my throat. “Maybe. But...this is my decision. I’ve just figured it out and remember Mother and Father’s late wishes to be in alliance with the Black Stone Pack. I’m going to get married this year anyway, so does it matter if it’s not to Beta Nathan?”

“You’ve been with him for seven years, Morganne. I think it does matter,” he breathed.

I sighed, “Not anymore, Alpha. I’ve decided I will prioritize my pack over my own heart.”

Perhaps my lie is too fake to be believed but...it does kind of not make Beta Nathan look like a jerk even if he is. Imagine the pack princess breaking the engagement with her pack’s Beta because she’d rather marry another Alpha for the future of the pack is more decent—rather than me telling everyone I’m leaving Nathan because he’s wooing his ex again.

When I cleared my throat, only then did my brother let out a relieved sigh. “Okay. I’ll inform Alpha Gerald of your decisions right away. In fact, I’m in the Black Stone Pack, little sister.”

I gasped. “I thought you’re in the Red Creek Pack?”

He only laughed. “If your decision is final, I’ll also call Beta Nathan—”

“No.” I lowered my gaze to hide the pain in my eyes. “Please don’t. I haven't broken up with him yet. I should be the one to tell him.”

Just as I muttered those words, I heard the sound of my bedroom door unlocking.

“Broke up with whom?”

I gasped. I couldn’t do anything as I looked up to meet Beta Nathan’s narrowed eyes.
