: Trump Card
Evelyn Rhys didn't sleep a wink all night.
When she rushed to the office in the morning, Dominic Falkner personally brought breakfast to her office.
"Honey, where were you last night? You're so pale, you must not have rested well." The heartache in Dominic Falkner's eyes looked genuine.
Evelyn Rhys felt her heart was about to break.
She wanted to demand why he was cheating on her with Gia Shaw. She wanted to flip the table, throw coffee in his face, smash the breakfast tray over his head...
But she did none of that. She just smiled serenely. "Thank you, darling. Could you go to the morning meeting for me? I need to catch up on some sleep in the office."
Dominic Falkner agreed gently, then mentioned as if it were an afterthought, "Oh, right, the PR Department is waiting for us to decide on this year's spokesperson for the new energy vehicles. I saw on their list that a celebrity named Gia Shaw looks quite promising..."
Evelyn Rhys understood instantly. He wanted to promote Gia Shaw.
"No. Gia Shaw got famous from variety shows; she has no real achievements in acting. She doesn't fit our brand identity."
Dominic Falkner said, "Gia Shaw is already very accomplished. At her age, we were still sleeping under a bridge..."
Evelyn Rhys couldn't help but ask, "You think she's more accomplished than me?"
Dominic Falkner answered without thinking, "You can't compare yourself to her. You're old... No, what I mean is, she makes a living with her looks, and you make a living with your brains. There's no comparison."
Evelyn Rhys stared fixedly at the desk, then gave a bitter smile. "Men always like them young and beautiful, don't they?"
Dominic Falkner quickly tried to backtrack. "I don't know about other men, but I know that I love you the most, always and—"
"Enough," Evelyn Rhys interrupted. "It's time for the meeting. You should head to the 1st floor."
Their office was on the 22nd floor, and the regular meeting was held in the main conference room on the 1st floor.
Ten minutes after the meeting started, Evelyn Rhys secretly ordered an electrician to cut the power to the elevators. Then, she led an IT expert into Dominic Falkner's empty office.
The IT expert spent a long time hacking into Dominic Falkner's computer system and pulling up the recent financial data.
Evelyn Rhys looked at it for ten minutes, but it felt like she had been walking alone in a blizzard for ten years, the chill seeping into her very bones.
Dominic Falkner had been transferring assets for a year. He registered a company in the Cayman Islands and used commercial means to move money to the M country, where he purchased luxury cars and mansions.
Evelyn Rhys searched for those mansions on the international internet and saw a main photo of Gia Shaw in a high-end designer dress, elegantly descending a staircase, looking every bit the lady of the house.
In that moment, Evelyn Rhys knew it was over.
Her 15-year relationship with Dominic Falkner was completely finished.
In their poorest days, they had chewed on moldy buns together, lived in a dilapidated house with a leaky roof, and huddled shivering under a single raincoat in the rain.
To help Dominic Falkner start his business, she had even resorted to selling her plasma, starting from a small factory that manufactured photovoltaic components.
To help Dominic Falkner secure investments, Evelyn Rhys drank until she had stomach bleeding at business dinners.
At countless company-wide meetings, Dominic Falkner had tearfully thanked Evelyn Rhys, saying he wouldn't be where he was today without her, and he swore to spend his life repaying her.
In the end, his repayment was infidelity.
Evelyn Rhys felt as if a thousand arrows had pierced her heart. She bit the back of her hand, forcing herself not to cry. She would rather draw blood than shed a single tear.
"Copy all the information, install monitoring software on his computer, and then we leave," Evelyn Rhys ordered calmly.
The IT expert glanced at the blood dripping from the back of Evelyn Rhys's hand and did as he was told, his heart pounding with fear.
The moment they restored Dominic Falkner's office to its original state and closed the door, Dominic himself happened to run up from the stairwell, his subordinates panting behind him.
"The elevators suddenly broke down and couldn't be fixed. I was worried you'd be lonely up here on the 22nd floor by yourself, so I ran up the stairs." Dominic Falkner strode toward Evelyn Rhys, his eyes brimming with deep affection.
The surrounding employees clicked their tongues in admiration. "President Falkner and President Rhys have such a great relationship! A model couple!"
Evelyn Rhys found it all absurd. 'Dominic Falkner is really addicted to his perfect husband persona,' she thought. 'He clearly doesn't love me and wishes he could divorce me immediately, yet he puts on this act of deep devotion in front of everyone.'
"Let's go. Mom's birthday banquet is about to start." Evelyn Rhys dodged Dominic Falkner's embrace, sweeping past him like a cool breeze.
She was determined not to get a divorce, but to use Dominic Falkner's infidelity as leverage to gain more control over FalknerTech and become the new chairman.
Evelyn Rhys was confident she would succeed, because she held a trump card—she was pregnant.
She was carrying Dominic Falkner's heir. He would have to make concessions.
They rode in the same Rolls-Royce to the banquet hall.
On the way, Dominic Falkner poured Evelyn Rhys water, covered her with a blanket, and adjusted the air conditioning, meticulously playing the part of a good husband.
Evelyn Rhys responded with a smile, mentally rehearsing the plan she would soon put into action.
At the perfect moment, she would reveal her pregnancy report, lay out the evidence of Dominic Falkner's affair, and deliver a single, decisive blow, seizing 60% of the company's shares when his guilt was at its peak.
But Evelyn Rhys never could have imagined that she would see Gia Shaw in the back room of the banquet.
Gia Shaw was standing behind Mrs. Falkner, holding her stomach and smiling with a shy sweetness.
"I'm pregnant. In just six months, I'll be giving President Falkner a son."
