They Humiliated His Dying Mother Summary
Chapter 1 of They Humiliated His Dying Mother
"No!"
"I'm not here to cause trouble. I came to the Hardings to talk about the wedding."
The moment my mother finished speaking, Marina Harding's already furious eyes narrowed even harder.
She looked my mother over like a leopard sizing up prey.
And right then, Sarah Harding came over in a red evening gown.
"What's going on?"
At the familiar voice, my mother spun around and looked at Sarah, so worked up she seemed to have found a lifeline.
"Sarah!"
"You shut your mouth!"
Marina barked at her, beside herself with rage.
"Who do you think you are? You've got the nerve to call my daughter by her given name."
My mother glanced at Marina, then at Sarah, at a loss.
Only then did it dawn on her that the lofty, elegant woman was Sarah's mother.
She couldn't help glancing down at her own plain clothes, forcing an awkward smile.
But Sarah was stunned by my mother's makeup.
Today wasn't only for the two families to discuss the wedding. It was also Marina's birthday banquet.
So what was she doing here wearing such an ill-omened face?
Was this disrespect, or did she come to curse them? Even the guests couldn't stand the sight of her, dipping their heads to mock her, wondering aloud who on earth she was.
Afraid my mother would humiliate the Hardings, Marina denied that she was any future in-law.
"Get out of here, now. Don't dirty my floor."
"I'll have to bring in a master to do a ritual for me later. You cursed jinx, you've given me a headache."
Marina frowned and pressed a hand to her forehead, and Sarah rushed over in a panic to steady her.
"Mommy, are you all right?"
"All right? How could I be all right."
"She knows perfectly well tonight is my birthday banquet, and she still shows up wearing a corpse's face to curse me."
Sarah frowned at once, staring at my mother with displeasure.
My mother lifted a hand and touched her own face.
"I didn't put on an unlucky face to curse the in-laws!"
"I didn't, I really didn't."
"A man was kind enough to help me fix my makeup—"
"What? Did any of you hear her just now call Marina her in-law?"
"We heard it. She said in-law, all right."
"Don't tell me she's actually—"
"She is not!" Marina straightened up and looked down at my mother with withering scorn.
"The Hardings are people of standing. Why would we ever tie ourselves to some penniless wretch?"
Because of my mother's makeup, Sarah just stood there, displeasure all over her face, doing nothing to save her.
My mother stood there helplessly, taking in the laughter thrown at her from every side.
