Suddenly, I was a headline. The top trending topic read: "Shameless Woman Fakes Marriage Certificate with Rock Star Jax Thorne."
Less than ten minutes later, Jax responded on Instagram. He admitted to dating me in college but claimed we had parted amicably a long time ago.
He claimed the only person he was focused on now was Blair.
Thousands of fans commented under his new post, most of them attacking me.
"So shameless! They broke up ages ago, and she still faked a marriage certificate! How desperate can you get!"
"She's ridiculously shameless."
"Get away from Jax! He deserves better!"
"Jax doesn't love you anymore, disappear from his life!"
My phone rang the moment I stepped off the plane. It was Jax.
He told me to meet him at his mansion in the Hollywood Hills.
However, I had an urgent recording session I couldn't miss, so I handled my business first. It was nearly midnight by the time I finished work and drove to the mansion.
I didn't expect him to wait. Surprisingly, he had been there all day.
I walked in to see him pacing in the living room. The moment he saw me, his voice was a low growl. "It's the middle of the night. Where the fuck have you been?"
A bitter laugh escaped my lips. So much for not being on the same level, I thought.
"Then what about everything I did for you five years ago?"
"It was just two million dollars! You want money? Fine. I'll give you twenty million to make this go away," Jax sneered. He stood up, towering over me with disdain before snorting and turning to leave.
I hurried forward to stop him, but he impatiently slammed me against the wall lined with his platinum records. One of them crashed to the floor and shattered.
"Enough, Genevieve! Stop clinging to me like gum on a boot. You're pathetic!"
Jax kicked the shattered record aside, cursed, and stalked away without a second glance.
I slid down the wall and collapsed onto the carpet, biting the inside of my cheek so hard I tasted blood. My anger burned white-hot.
My mind raced with a thousand ways to make this man pay. No matter what, I was going to destroy him.
So much for the handsome face. Underneath, he was just another asshole.
