He replaces her with her scheming half-sister, never knowing Evelyn carries his triplets. Chapter 1 of The Rejected Luna's Secret Triplets & The Lycan Emperor

The scent of crushed mint and dried feverfew hung heavy in the narrow confines of the apothecary, clinging to the damp stone walls like a second skin. Evelyn's fingers moved with practiced, rhythmic speed, separating the pale stalks from the bruised leaves before grinding them into a paste. Her hands, calloused and stained faint green at the knuckles, were steady despite the tremor in her heart.

To the rest of the Shadow-Fang Pack, she was merely an Omega-a nameless healer meant to mend torn flesh after boundary skirmishes and scrub the marble floors of the pack house before dawn. But tonight, as the silver crescent moon crested the sharp ridges of the pine forest, her low status felt like a fading dream.

Tomorrow, everything would change.

She wiped a streak of herbal paste onto her linen apron and turned toward the wooden peg near the doorway. Hanging there was her ceremonial robe. It wasn't the heavy, jewel-encrusted velvet worn by the high-born females of the inner council, but simple spun silk, hand-dyed a deep indigo that mirrored the night sky. She had spent three months embroidering the hem with delicate silver thread, stitch by painstaking stitch, dreaming of the moment she would stand before the Pack Elders.

A floorboard creaked near the threshold.

Evelyn didn't startle. Her wolf, quiet and reserved as she was, hummed with a sudden, intense warmth before the scent even reached her nose-dark cedar, ozone, and the fierce, underlying heat of a true predator.

"You're still working," a low, gravelly voice echoed through the dim room.

Evelyn turned, her breath catching in her throat. Connor stood framed in the narrow doorway, his broad shoulders blocking out the pale moonlight from the hallway. His dark hair was wind-tousled, his jaw dark with a day's worth of stubble, and those sharp, amber eyes burned with an intensity that made the small room feel suffocatingly tight.

"Someone has to prepare the salves for the morning patrols," she said softly, offering him a small, hesitant smile. "A future High Alpha shouldn't be sneaking into the servants' quarters, Connor. If your father's guards..."

In two swift strides, Connor crossed the room, cutting off her words as his large, calloused hand cupped her jaw. His thumb brushed over the high curve of her cheekbone, hot and possessive, making her blood rush wildly through her veins.

"Let them look," he murmured, his voice dropping an octave, rich and thick with restraint. "Let them talk. Tomorrow, every elder who looked down on you will bow to you. I don't care about their traditions, Evelyn. I don't care about their complaints over bloodlines."

He dipped his head, his lips pressing a lingering, burning kiss to the pulse point beating rapidly beneath her ear. Evelyn gasped, her hands instinctively catching the rough fabric of his leather tunic. The raw, heavy scent of his dominance wrapped around her like a blanket, pulling her under.

"Come with me," he whispered against her skin, his hand sliding down to entwine his fingers tightly with hers.

"Connor, it's late. The ceremony is at dawn-"

"Now, Evelyn."

He didn't wait for her agreement, gently tugging her toward the side door that led into the shadowed treeline behind the medical hall.

The night air hit her skin like a splash of cold river water, thick with the scent of damp earth and pine needles. Connor led her swift and silent through the dark forest, his grip never loosening. They climbed the familiar, rugged path that spiraled upward toward Moonlit Ridge-the highest peak in the Shadow-Fang territory, a jagged shelf of white stone jutting out over the vast, misty valley below.

When they broke through the thick canopy, the world opened up beneath them. The valley stretched out like a velvet blanket, dotted with the glowing torchfires of the pack village below. Above them, the stars burned sharp and bright against the deep black canvas of the sky.

Connor stopped at the edge of the overlook, pulling her against his chest. His arms wrapped tightly around her waist, anchoring her to him as the wind whipped her loose hair across her face.

"Look down there," Connor murmured, resting his chin on her shoulder. His chest rose and fell in heavy, deliberate breaths. "Everything the light touches belongs to the Shadow-Fang. And tomorrow, it belongs to you."

Evelyn leaned back into his solid heat, her heart hammering against her ribs. "Your father wanted a high-born Luna, Connor. Someone from a powerful border pack. A female with wealth and legions of warriors to strengthen our borders. I have nothing. Just my herbs, my hands, and a faint wolf."

Connor turned her in his arms, his eyes blazing in the starlight with a fierce, almost terrifying devotion. "You have me," he growled low in his chest. "You have my heart, my soul, and my blood. That is worth more than a hundred border alliances."

He reached into his leather tunic, his fingers searching for a moment before withdrawing a small, dark object. When he opened his hand, the moonlight caught the metallic glint of a dark silver band. It was heavy, hand-carved with ancient runes that pulsed with a faint, residual magic, set with a raw, uncut sapphire that burned like a blue flame.

Evelyn's eyes widened, her breath hitching. "The Ring of the First Luna... Connor, no. That belongs in the pack vault. Your mother..."

"My mother is gone," he interrupted firmly, grabbing her left hand. His touch was firm, refusing to let her pull away. "And this ring was meant for the woman who holds the Alpha's heart. Not a political pawn. Not a noble trophy."

He slid the heavy ring onto her ring finger. It fit perfectly, the cold metal warming instantly against her skin as the dormant magic within the band hummed softly, acknowledging her touch.

"Swear it to me," Connor whispered, his thumb caressing the back of her hand, his eyes searching hers with a desperate intensity. "Swear that you will stand beside me tomorrow. That you won't let their whispers push you away."

"I swear," Evelyn breathed, tears pricking the corners of her eyes. The doubt that had been gnawing at her chest for months melted away, burned to ash by the fierce heat of his gaze. "I'm yours, Connor. Always."

A low, primal growl sounded deep in his chest as he pulled her flush against his body. His mouth claimed hers with a sudden, bruising passion that stole the air right out of her lungs. There was no hesitation, no gentle hesitation left between them only the raw, overwhelming tide of years spent hiding in shadows, now bursting through the dam.

He lifted her effortlessly, setting her down upon the soft, moss-covered ground beneath the shelter of an ancient pine tree. The world narrowed to the scent of cedar and pine, the rough texture of his hands trailing heat over her bare skin, and the wild, frantic rhythm of their beating hearts.

Every touch felt like a promise sealed in fire. As he leaned down, his teeth lightly grazing the sensitive skin at the crook of her neck-marking her with his scent, claiming her before the moon-Evelyn closed her eyes and surrendered completely. She yielded to his touch, his heat, and the intoxicating belief that she was loved by the most powerful male in the territory.

In the dark, beneath the watchful eyes of the stars, she gave him everything she had-her trust, her heart, and her body, anchoring her entire existence to his promises.

When Evelyn opened her eyes, the world was bathed in the pale, cool slate of early morning.

The air was frigid. She shivered, pulling the edge of her cloak tighter around her bare shoulders as she sat up on the bed of moss. The fire in her blood from hours ago had cooled into a dull, lingering ache, but a quiet, blooming warmth remained in her chest.

She reached out blindly to her right, expecting her hand to find the broad, warm expanse of Connor's back.

Her fingers touched cold, damp stone.

Evelyn blinked away the sleep, turning her head. The space beside her was empty. The moss was flattened where he had lain, but the lingering heat of his body was long gone.

"Connor?" she called out softly, her voice raspy from the morning chill.

Only the rustling of the pine needles answered her.

She stood up quickly, her pulse giving a frantic, nervous flutter. Her legs felt slightly weak as she dressed herself in the dim light, smoothing down her wrinkled tunic and pulling her cloak over her shoulders. The heavy sapphire ring on her hand caught the weak dawn light, its dark blue stone gleaming like a solitary eye.

He probably went down early to ready the ceremonial grounds, she told herself, forcing a breath into her tight lungs. He had to dress in his full Alpha armor. He didn't want to wake me.

Yet an uneasy knot began to form deep in her stomach, twisting tighter with every step she took down the winding path from Moonlit Ridge. The forest was eerily quiet. No birds sang in the high branches. The usual morning bustle of the pack house was muted, smothered by an odd, tense silence that hung heavy over the valley.

When she reached the medical hall, she slipped inside through the back door, heading straight for her small, windowless room.

The door was slightly ajar.

Evelyn pushed it open, stopping dead in her tracks.

Sitting on her small wooden desk, placed directly over her neatly folded indigo ceremonial robe, was a thick piece of heavy parchment. It was sealed not with the blue wax of the pack, but with the dark, crimson seal of the Alpha Council.

Her hand trembled as she reached out, her fingers catching on the rough edge of the paper. She broke the seal, unrolling the heavy parchment.

The ink was black, bold, and rushed, written in Connor's distinct, rigid handwriting.

Evelyn,

By the time you read this, the Elders will have convened at the High Altar. I know what I promised you on the ridge, and every word burned in my chest as I wrote it. But an Alpha does not belong to himself. He belongs to the survival of his pack.

The Crimson-Fang territory has mobilized five legions along our southern border. We cannot survive a war alone. The Council has reached an agreement with House Beatrice. To secure their army, I must take Duchess Beatrice as my Luna at sunrise.

Forgive me for what must be done for the pack. Stay in your quarters today. Do not come to the altar.

- C.

The paper slipped from her numb fingers, fluttering uselessly to the stone floor.

The room seemed to tilt, the walls closing in on her until the air rushed out of her lungs in a harsh, strangled gasp. Outside her window, high up in the central plaza, the deep, thunderous chime of the ceremonial war bells began to ring, announcing the start of the High Alpha's wedding.
