The Rebirth of The Perfect Wife

“Be careful, someone might hear us–-stop it! Stop moaning!” I was holding the doorknob when I heard someone talking inside my husband’s office. “Your wife might see us!“

“I don’t care, my love.”

My eyes widened when I heard those words from my husband, Tyrone. In our three years of marriage and four years of relationship, I never thought he could do this. I’ve perceived him as a faithful and decent man, not someone like this.

“We both know how much I love you, Tyrone, but I don’t want to mess with your wife.” I hear someone utter. “She’s a powerful figure. Fighting with her is like putting myself into flames!”

“But we both know how nice she is, right? She can’t even kill an ant, and that’s a tiny animal. How about a human? She’s been a part of different volunteer groups for human rights.” my husband replied. “And that already sums up what kind of person she is.”

“And you aren’t even bothered by the fact that you are cheating with a perfect wife?” I never considered myself a perfect wife, but I am trying my best to fulfill his standards. “Every guy dreams of one and yet you are treating her like this?”

“Listen, I want her for her money. Besides, you can’t bear a child, right? I just need to make love with her and then we are done! After all, you are the one I have been dreaming of.”

“Why? Because I am younger and prettier?” my blood boils as I slowly remember the girl’s tone of voice. I try not to overthink, but I can’t help. I hope I am wrong.

“No, Rina. It’s because you are the one I like…” I couldn’t help but gasp when I heard the lady's name. “Wait, I think someone’s outside. Let me check.”

I started sprinting towards the nearest office and immediately hid. I slapped myself once, and even twice, just to confirm if I was dreaming.

Sadly, I was not.

I could hear multiple footsteps outside as if they were running and searching for the person who must have heard their conversation. I know it would make them paranoid, hearing someone gasp outside the room, most especially when they found out it was me. I clenched my fists and took out the two pregnancy tests from my pocket.

I was planning to surprise him by saying that I was pregnant, but I was the one who was surprised.

“Hey love, thank you for making an apple pie! You don’t have to do all of this!” My husband uttered as soon as he entered the kitchen. “We have maids and yet you decided to cook? I am lucky to have you!”

I showed a sweet smile, even if I wanted to slap his face at that moment. He kissed me on the cheek, and it now hits differently.

“Hey, I think I need to tell you something…” I smiled and touched his face. “Please don’t be shocked, okay?”

He nodded and held my waist.

“What is it, baby girl?”

“Well, someone told me that…” I paused for a moment and sighed. I wanted to make him feel nervous, so I could see how he would react. I saw his eyes shake, and his smile disappeared. “Someone told me that…”

“Say it now, love. You are making me nervous...” he replied and scratched his nape. I know he is trying his best not to overreact, but I can see how he is trying to pull himself together. “What is it? Who told you that?”

“Well….”

“Look, if someone told you some shit about me, the chances are high that they are just envious of what we have. You know me well, right?” he pinched my cheeks and kissed my forehead. “We are far from perfect, but what we have is ideal to many, right?”

“What the hell are you saying?” I shook my head and pinched his nose. “I am pregnant, that’s all I want to say!”

He widened his eyes and immediately carried me around.

“You made me nervous! I thought you were gonna say something else..”

I tried my best to meet my eyes with him and smiled.

“Why? Is there something else I should know?”
