The Luna Princess: Ashes of Love

Chapter 5 – The Awakening

Morning light stretched across the training grounds of the Blood Moon Palace, casting long golden shadows over polished stone.

Nora stood at the center of the arena, her chest rising and falling in steady rhythm as she prepared herself.

A thin sheen of sweat clung to her skin, catching the light, while her silver hair fell loosely around her shoulders, glowing faintly under the sun.

Something about her felt different... as though a powerful force stirred beneath her skin.

Nicole stood a few paces away, his sharp gaze fixed entirely on her.

His expression, usually a mask of professional detachment, held an almost imperceptible intensity as it tracked her every move.

He had trained her for two years now, had watched her grow from a determined but inexperienced girl into something far more formidable.

Yet even he felt an unfamiliar, but powerful presence in her today.

"I want you to try the Lunar Pulse Form again," he commanded.

Nora nodded, her eyes closing as she drew a slow, deliberate breath, grounding herself as he had always taught.

One breath. Two breaths. Each inhale a gathering, each exhale a release.

Then, she moved.

Her body flowed in precise, fluid rhythm.

Her steps were light, yet imbued with a controlled power that seemed to ripple through the very air around her.

Nicole's eyes narrowed as he observed the subtle, yet undeniable, change in her movements.

Midway through the sequence, a strange heaviness descended upon Nora.

It wasn't fatigue, but something far more primal, spreading through her limbs like a slow-burning fire.

Her breath hitched, a gasp caught in her throat.

She stopped.

"Again," Nicole urged, his voice sharper now, his attention fully captivated.

Nora fought to steady herself, to force her trembling body back into the familiar motions.

But this time, the force came again.

Stronger.

It surged through her like a violent storm unleashed, raw and untamed, a tidal wave of energy that threatened to consume her.

Nora gasped, her fingers curling involuntarily into fists as something ancient, something vast and powerful, stirred within her very core.

The wind suddenly rose, furious without warning.

It spiraled violently around her, whipping strands of her silver hair into the air.

Dust scattered across the courtyard as the force intensified, pressing outward from her in waves.

The world seemed to react to the storm inside her.

Nicole took an instinctive step forward, his voice cutting through the rising gale. "Nora..."

Her eyes snapped open.

They were no longer the soft, familiar silver eyes they had always been.

Instead, they blazed with an inner light, a deeper, brighter hue alive with something wild, something untamed, something no longer entirely human.

The world sharpened, colors more vibrant, sounds more distinct, as if a veil had been lifted from her senses.

Nora's breath came in ragged bursts, her body trembling under the sheer weight of it all.

It felt as though something immense was pushing, pressing, clawing to be free from the confines of her skin.

A profound, undeniable presence bloomed within her, vast and overwhelming, its essence brushing against her consciousness like a force too grand to be contained.

And then she felt it.

Her wolf. It was here. It was awake.

"I... I can't..." she whispered, her voice a fragile tremor as her hand pressed against her chest, trying to contain the surging power.

The wind howled louder, a primal scream mirroring the one in her soul.

Then, as suddenly as it had begun, everything stopped. The force vanished. The air stilled.

The silence that followed was not merely an absence of sound, but a profound, almost deafening void.

Nora staggered, her body swaying as the immense weight disappeared, leaving her breathless, disoriented, and strangely hollowed out.

For a brief moment, she simply stood there, trying to reconcile the ordinary world with the extraordinary event that had just transpired within her.

Then she ran. "Nicole!"

She closed the distance between them in a blur, throwing her arms around him without hesitation, clinging to him as if he were the only anchor in a world that had just been violently reshaped.

His scent, a familiar comfort, grounded her.

"My powers..." she breathed, her voice a fragile blend of awe and fear against his chest.

"My wolf... it's awakening."

Nicole stiffened for the briefest moment, a subtle tension in his frame, before his arms came around her, steadying her.

His jaw tightened, but his expression remained composed, though his eyes held a depth of understanding she hadn't seen before.

"Yes," he said quietly, pulling back just enough to meet her gaze, his thumbs gently stroking her arms. "It is."

His eyes searched hers, studying the lingering glow, the nascent power that still thrummed beneath her skin.

"Your eighteenth birthday is approaching," he continued, his voice low but firm, a steady hand guiding her through the storm.

"This is only the beginning."

Nora swallowed, her heartbeat still a frantic drum against her ribs.

"It felt like... something inside me was trying to break free."

"It is," Nicole replied, his gaze unwavering.

"And you must be ready when it does."

His hand lingered on hers, a silent promise of support.

"You need to keep practicing."

Nora nodded slowly, her thoughts a whirlwind of fear and exhilaration.

Beneath the shock, a new sensation bloomed... a potent mix of excitement and raw power.

And somewhere deep within her, the wolf stirred again... Waiting.

A silent, powerful presence now inextricably linked to her own.

From the elevated balcony overlooking the training grounds, King Jones Durkehn had seen everything.

His expression remained calm, composed, but his sharp eyes betrayed nothing of the thoughts that moved behind them. Beside him stood Gareth.

"She is awakening earlier than expected," Gareth said carefully.

The King did not respond immediately. His gaze remained fixed on Nora as she stood below, still speaking with Nicole.

"She carries more than just the blood of this kingdom," he said at last, his voice steady. "It is only natural that her power refuses to remain dormant."

There was no fear in his tone.

Only certainty.

He turned slightly. "Have the scouts returned?"

"Yes, my King. There have been... disturbances along the eastern borders. Minor clashes. Nothing yet alarming."

"Nothing is ever 'minor' when it repeats," the King replied calmly. "Increase surveillance. Quietly."

Gareth bowed. "At once, my King."

As Gareth stepped away, the King's gaze shifted once more.

This time toward Nicole. There was a brief pause.

Then, turning to the guards waiting behind him, he commanded,

"Bring him to me later."

Later in the day, Nicole stood before the King in the private council chamber, his posture straight, his expression composed.

"You handled her well today," King Jones Durkehn said, his voice measured.

"It is my duty, Your Majesty," Nicole replied.

The King studied him for a long moment, his gaze sharp, searching.

"Duty," he repeated slowly. "Is that all it is?"

Nicole did not hesitate. "The Princess's strength is vital to the kingdom. I will ensure she is prepared."

A faint smile touched the King's lips, neither warm, nor cold.

"You speak well," he said, "and you have proven yourself capable."

There was a pause before he continued.

"She trusts you."

Nicole's jaw tightened almost imperceptibly. "I will not betray that trust."

The King's eyes lingered on him for a moment longer before he nodded.

"See that you do not," the King said quietly, his gaze lingering on him.
