Kassidy frowns when she witnesses how Jayden punches Miguel's face. Those two are trying to ruin her parent's anniversary party! "Dad, I told you that raising that pup is your biggest mistake!" she growls.
Dad gives her a warning gaze. She stomps her feet. "Cousin, relax. Don't ruin your mood over that wolf," Jillian says. She took a deep breath.
"Jill was right, Lady Kassidy," Alaric says. Mom sighed and approached them first. The two of them look at Mom after they hear her asking.
Her eyes meet Miguel's dazzling russet brown eyes. She frowns when she notices sadness in them. It's different from what she usually saw in them.
Alaric stood in front of her. She saw an unexplainable wrath in his eyes. It's so fierce that it brings a chill to her spine.
She was stunned when, in swift seconds, the tall Miguel was standing behind her, towering her completely. He wraps his arms around her waist. "Hello, my love."
Those words echo in her ears. Miguel's breath fans against her skin. His subtle icy perfume enters her nostrils. He smells so good actually.
For the first time, this man dares to get close and touch her. He never did that, even once. He knew how much she hated him.
"What the heck did you call me?!" she grunted, raising her head to look at his eyes again. But all of a sudden...
[I'm glad to see you again in such spirit, my love. I'm glad the moon goddess listens to my begging wish. This time, I'll cling to you and save you, Kassidy. I promise.]
What the f*ck did I just hear?! What is going on!?
'Is that his inner voice?! Maybe it was. It's his voice, but he didn't open his lips at all. I think I'm being crazy!'
Kassidy suddenly remembers that she has a secret power that her parents only know. She can read minds of any beings and check their memories for the past year.
[I wonder if they will believe me if I tell them the truth. That... Alaric, Jillian, and both of their families will kill the three of them to control Crimson Hound pack. That I was reborn six months before that sickening tragedy.]
Her eyes dilated after she heard what he said next. No! He's just lying! He must have used underhanded magic. That's why she can hear his thoughts!
"Kassy, are you okay?" Alaric asks.
Alaric tries to touch her, but he turns pale. She shifts her eyes to Miguel and realizes how deep and scary the hatred he had for Alaric Taylor.
"Stay away from my mate, bastard," he asserts madly.
His tone was filled with unexplainable wrath. His inner thoughts... Are they the truth? Miguel grabs her face, forcing her to keep her gaze at him.
"I don't f*cking care if you'll hate me for eternity, but I'm not handing you over to anyone. Whether you like it or not, I, Miguel Curtis, will be your only mate in this lifetime, Kassidy Silver," he asserts firmly and territorial too.
He's informing her. She can sense that. "Miguel, are you disrespecting the family that helped you, huh? Look around. The guests were looking on us. Stop being shameless!" Alaric asserts.
Jayden grabs Alaric's shoulder to stop him from getting closer to us. And yet... Her eyes were still locked on his. She stays quiet and starts reading Miguel's mind. To watch his memories as if they were a movie.
Her body freezes when she discovers what Miguel sacrifices for her. A week before her coming-of-age, on the full moon of that month, she will use a ritual to change the name of her mate. He gives her half of his life force secretly.
She tried to control herself and continue. She witnessed how he avenges her death and how he weeps after he saw our lifeless bodies. He's not lying. His thoughts weren't lying to her.
She saw how she manages the Crimson Hound and never forgets to let our pack members know that he's doing his best because Dad had taught him a lot, even how to be a good leader.
She also saw how Miguel ends Alaric's and Mr. Taylor's lives. Even when he sits on that balcony and wishes for a second chance to be with her.
"Alpha, Luna, do something. Miguel was trying to ruin your anniversary celebration!" her cousin exclaimed.
She blinks and looks at Jillian. Her cousin thought she was asking for her help. She was dragged by her cousin, and Miguel's sharp gaze landed on Jillian. "Stop glaring at Jill or I'll gauge your eyes," Alaric threatened. What she saw was a man desperately protecting his other woman.
"Enough," Dad calmly utters, but his tone shows the power of an alpha. "I'm sorry, Alpha. I'll explain my side tomorrow," Miguel says.
He scoops me using his strong right arm, making her sit on it. He raised his head and looked at her. "I have to speak with my princess. I'm afraid I really have to ruin your twentieth wedding anniversary.
I'll make it up for you and for the pack. I promise," he says. Alaric scoffs. "Put Lady Kassandra down, nobody," Alaric warns. She controls her temper.
Kassidy knew that everything she learned was the truth. "Honey?" Mom asks.
She smiled. "It's okay, Mom and Dad. Enjoy the rest of the party. You both know that Miguel won't hurt me, right, Dad?" she asserts. Dad smiles.
"Yes. And Miguel, we really have to talk with each other tomorrow," Dad says.
Miguel bows his head and walks away. "Jayden, prepare the car. Let's head to my place," he commands. "Understood," Jayden replied.
The three of us stayed silent inside the car for the whole damn fifteen minutes, which favors her. She's processing everything that she learned from her deceased mate's memories.
She didn't know if that could be called a past life, but she realized how he carries everything on his own after they died. Jillian and Alaric were wrong. He's not an opportunist.
"We're here," he utters.
