In this billionaire romance novel, Amie Sanford is drugged and sold to a predator by her adoptive family. She escapes into a stranger's penthouse and proposes marriage to Harlon Grant—unaware he's New York's most powerful man. Her comeback begins.

The Disowned Daughter And Her Billionaire Comeback Summary

Amie Sanford is the Mills family's disposable adopted daughter, dressed in rags while her sister wears couture. When her adoptive father auctions her off to a predatory fifty-year-old to win a development deal, Amie bets she can secure the contract herself in three months. But her adoptive mother and sister drug her milk and deliver her unconscious body to Pierce Grant's hotel bed. Waking paralyzed and feverish, Amie smashes a brass lamp over his head and drags herself into a random penthouse, where she proposes marriage to the cold stranger inside. The next morning, she slaps a marriage certificate bearing the name Harlon Grant onto the Mills coffee table and walks out to build her own empire, never realizing her fake husband is the most powerful man in New York.

Chapter 1 of The Disowned Daughter And Her Billionaire Comeback

Richard Mills raised his glass, and the ballroom fell silent. Five hundred of New York's wealthiest turned toward the stage, diamond chandeliers throwing gold across their faces. "Tonight, I have wonderful news. Both of my daughters will be joining the Grant family through marriage."

Amie Sanford's champagne flute stopped halfway to her lips. She stood in her usual spot—the back corner, as far from the spotlight as possible. She was the adopted daughter, the placeholder the Mills family had picked from an orphanage fifteen years ago to fill the silence while they searched for their missing child. When the real daughter, Iola, was found and brought home, Amie became furniture they no longer needed but hadn't bothered to throw out. She was tolerated at these events, not included. And no one had told her there would be an announcement tonight.

"Iola Mills is engaged to Mr. Cameron Grant." Applause. Iola beamed beside her boyfriend, radiant in haute couture. Richard paused, drawing out the moment. "And my eldest, Amie Sanford, will be engaged to the distinguished Mr. Pierce Grant!"

A spotlight slammed into her.

Pierce Grant. The name turned everything in her stomach to ice. Everyone in this ballroom knew exactly what kind of man he was—the young women who had fled his hotel suites, the settlements signed in the dark, the bruises that never made the society pages. Everyone knew. And Richard had just offered her up in front of them all.

A greasy, middle-aged man emerged from the crowd. Pierce's eyes crawled over her body with the slow, proprietary certainty of a predator who had already been told yes. He wasn't looking at a person. He was looking at a prize.

Across the ballroom, Iola caught Amie's eye and mouthed two silent words: You lose.

Iola had hated her for as long as Amie could remember. She knew why—she had watched it start. They were twelve years old. She had been walking past her father's study when she heard him on the phone with a business partner, his voice full of pride. "Amie's the one with real talent. Iola just has the name." Those words, however, had also landed on Iola, standing three feet behind her. From that day on, every kindness Iola showed her had a blade hidden inside it. Amie learned to take it. She owed the Mills family for pulling her from that orphanage at five years old.

But she did not owe them her body.

She set down her glass. Walked forward. Past the stunned guests. Past Iola's smirk freezing on her face. She took the microphone from a passing waiter.

"I'm sorry, Dad. I think you've made a mistake." Her voice was quiet. Each word landed like a stone. She turned to the crowd. "I will not be marrying Mr. Pierce Grant. My marriage is my own decision."

Dead silence. Then—explosion. Gasps ricocheted off the chandeliers. Camera phones went up. Pierce's face curdled from smug victory into purple fury.

Richard lunged. He seized her arm and signaled security to cut the sound system, his smile still plastered on. "Everyone, my apologies—too much champagne." He dragged her through the service door.

It clicked shut. His palm cracked across her face.

Amie's head snapped sideways. Her ear screamed. Copper flooded her mouth. Her cheek bloomed hot, already swelling.

"Are you insane?" Richard's voice was a choked roar, worse than any shout. "The Grants are the most powerful family in New York. Pierce was our inside track. Without me, you would have rotted in that orphanage."

Amie did not raise a hand to her face. She gave herself three seconds—exactly three—to push the burning behind her eyes back down. The most useful thing she had ever learned was how not to cry after being hit. Then she straightened.

"I know you want the Sterling Point Development project."

Richard's fury flickered. Surprise.

"No one in New York understands historical preservation alongside commercial development like I do. Your team has been failing for eight months. I'm your best weapon." She met his eyes without blinking. "Three months. If I win you that project, you cancel this engagement and never interfere in my life again." She swallowed. "If I fail, I'll marry whoever you want. No argument. No escape."

Richard stared, calculating. Sterling Point was worth ten times whatever Pierce had promised. Her talent—the one thing he couldn't dismiss.

"Fine. Three months. But if you fail, you marry Pierce without a word."

"Deal."

She turned and walked out. Her back was straight as steel.

Iola waited in the corridor, leaning against the wall. "So brave, sister. But Sterling Point? Even Dad's company can't crack it. What makes you think you can?"

Amie glanced at her. "We'll see."

She didn't return to the party. She walked through the manicured gardens, past fountains and statues, and out the main gate. Night wind cut through her thin dress, sharp and cold. It made her shiver. It cleared her head.

She clenched her fists until her nails bit into her palms. Three months. No money. No allies. No safety net.

She pulled out her cracked phone and began searching for everything she could find on the Sterling Point project.
