“Mr. Bruce, the investment in Trevor’s company can be withdrawn.”

His voice on the other end sounded hesitant.

“Ms. Cruz, you and Mr. Trevor are still married. If we pull out now, the Trevor Family might…”

I understood what he didn’t finish saying.

“Mr. Trevor and I are getting divorced. Please draft the divorce agreement for me.”

“…Understood, Ms. Cruz. The withdrawal will take about seven days.”

I nodded and ended the call.

Seven days. That would be enough for me to settle everything.

When the divorce agreement arrived, I took my time reviewing it before slowly signing my name.

Until yesterday, I never thought I’d be divorcing Eric Trevor.

We had been married for ten years—our marriage starting at a time when his company was in deep crisis.

I had used the company I built from scratch to invest in his, even joined it myself to help it survive.

To spare his pride, I never told him that I was the investor who saved him.

Once the company got back on its feet, Eric proposed.

His wedding vows still echoed in my memory.

But now... he had completely forgotten them.

After printing the divorce papers, I suddenly heard a voice behind me.

“Melanie, what’s that in your hands?”

I turned.

It was Eric.

His suit was rumpled, far from his usual tidy appearance and a faint red mark trailed down his neck—evidence of what he had just been doing.

Ever since Tessa Douglas appeared, he stopped coming home on time and often spent the night out.

In the past, I would’ve confronted him.

But now, I lowered my gaze and said calmly, “Nothing.”

He didn’t press further and casually took off his suit jacket.

When he noticed I hadn’t prepared his usual hangover tea and midnight snack, he finally frowned.

“Melanie, are you still sulking?”

“I told you yesterday,” he snapped. “I had a client and you kept calling—ninety-nine times! I had to turn off my phone. How was I supposed to know you got into a car accident? And you’re fine now, aren’t you?”

His tone was full of blame.

I nodded casually and continued reading through the divorce terms.

Yesterday was our tenth wedding anniversary.

I had prepared a feast for him. Even had a custom-made gift he would’ve loved.

But while picking it up, I got into an accident.

I called him.

Ninety-nine times.

No answer.

And then, I saw his car.

He drove past me slowly.

Tessa was beside him in the passenger seat.

Because of the seat blocking their view, only she saw my face.

Her expression shifted when she noticed the blood between my legs.

“Oh dear,” she said sweetly. “A pregnant woman in a car crash. How tragic.”

Her tone sounded concerned, but her eyes gleamed with satisfaction.

Eric frowned, then looked over.

I thought—surely, he’d recognize me.

After all, I had been driving that car for ten years. I was his wife.

But he only gave me a passing glance before covering her eyes.

“Don’t look. It’s disgusting. You’ll have nightmares.”

In that moment, I felt like I’d fallen into a freezing abyss.

The ambulance came. At the hospital, a doctor rushed toward me.

“Where’s your husband? Your condition is critical—we need his signature immediately. Otherwise, we can’t save the baby!”

With the last bit of strength I had, I gasped,

“He’s already dead. I’ll sign it myself.”

Gasps of shock came from the medical team, but I signed the papers.

It was too late.

When I couldn’t reach Eric, I didn’t cry.

When I saw him drive past with his secretary, I didn’t cry.

But when I felt the baby die inside me… I broke.

This was the child we had waited ten years for.

If only he had answered my call.

If only he had stopped when he saw me.

This baby—our baby—could’ve been saved.

But in that moment, as life left my womb, a harsh truth came to light.

My marriage to Eric was over.

Ten years of loyalty had meant nothing.

I glanced at him now, standing there, distracted by his phone.

But Eric refused to see it.
