The CEO's Secret Bride

"Tiffany, what do you think you’re doing?"

Nathaniel’s voice cracked through the silence like a whip, startling me. My hands froze mid-motion, the stack of papers trembling in my grasp.

I turned slowly, trying to mask the guilt painted all over my face. "I… I was just—"

"Just snooping through my private documents?" he snarled, his storm-gray eyes narrowing. "Don’t even try to lie."

The fury radiating off him was almost palpable, but beneath it, I caught a flicker of something else—panic.

My heart pounded in my chest as I scrambled to think of an excuse. The damning file still rested in my hands, bold letters spelling out "MERGER AGREEMENT" mocking me.

"This isn’t what it looks like," I started, my voice trembling despite my best efforts.

"Really? Then what is it?" His tone was scathing, a blade meant to cut.

I squared my shoulders, trying to channel every ounce of courage I had. "I saw my father’s name. I had to know what you were planning."

"And you thought this was the way to do it?" he bit out, stalking closer. "By going behind my back?"

Each step he took seemed to sap the air from the room. I tried to stand my ground, but my knees threatened to buckle. His presence was overwhelming—like a storm about to unleash its wrath.

"You’re hiding something," I said, forcing steel into my voice. "This merger—it’s not just business, is it?"

Nathaniel stopped inches away, his gaze searing into mine. For a moment, I thought he might explode. Instead, he let out a sharp, bitter laugh.

"You’re unbelievable," he said, shaking his head. "You think you can waltz into my life, rifle through my things, and play detective?"

His words stung, but I refused to back down. "Maybe if you were honest for once, I wouldn’t have to."

His jaw tightened, the veins in his neck taut with restraint. "Honest?" he echoed, his voice dangerously low. "You want honesty, Tiffany? Fine."

"This deal is about survival. Mine. Your father’s. And whether you realize it or not, yours too."

The weight of his words hit me like a freight train. My grip on the papers loosened, and they fluttered to the floor like fallen leaves.

"What does that mean?" I demanded, my voice barely above a whisper.

His lips curled into a grim smile, but there was no warmth in it. "It means you’re in over your head."

"Stop talking in riddles, Nathaniel!" I snapped. "If this is about my father, then tell me. What aren’t you saying?"

His eyes darkened, and for a split second, I thought I saw something raw and unguarded—a flicker of vulnerability. But it was gone as quickly as it appeared, replaced by his usual armor of arrogance and disdain.

"Your father has a way of destroying everything he touches," he said coldly. "And if you’re not careful, he’ll destroy you too."

The accusation felt like a slap. "Don’t you dare talk about my father like that."

"Why not? Because it’s true?" he shot back, his voice rising. "Or because deep down, you already know it?"

The room seemed to close in on me. Every word he said felt like a knife twisting in my gut, but I refused to let him see me break.

"You think you’re so righteous," I said through gritted teeth. "But you’re just as ruthless as he is."

For a moment, silence hung between us, heavy and charged. Then, Nathaniel stepped back, his expression hardening.

"Believe whatever helps you sleep at night, Tiffany. But know this—"

He leaned in, his breath ghosting against my ear. "If you ever try to cross me again, you’ll regret it."

A shiver ran down my spine, but I refused to look away. "You can’t scare me, Nathaniel."

"Then you’re a fool," he said flatly, turning on his heel.

My chest heaved as I watched him walk away, the echo of his footsteps a brutal reminder of the line he’d just drawn in the sand.

I glanced down at the scattered papers, my mind racing. Whatever this merger was, it was more than just business. Nathaniel was hiding something—something big.

I bent to gather the documents, a single page caught my eye. My father’s signature was scrawled at the bottom, but above it, in bold letters, was a name I didn’t recognize: Blackthorn Industries.

My blood ran cold. The whispers I’d heard about Blackthorn were enough to make even the bravest men tremble. This wasn’t just a merger. It was a deal with the devil.

And I was standing in the crossfire.

The sound of the door slamming shut snapped me out of my thoughts. Nathaniel’s final words echoed in my mind like a curse.

"Don’t test me, Tiffany," I whispered to myself, clutching the papers to my chest.

But I couldn’t ignore the voice in my head, the one screaming at me to dig deeper. Whatever secrets Nathaniel was keeping, they were worth risking everything to uncover.

I turned to leave, a faint sound stopped me in my tracks—a soft, almost imperceptible whisper.

"You should have stayed out…"

My breath caught as I spun around, but the room was empty. The shadows seemed darker now, the air colder.

I hurried out, my pulse racing. I didn’t need another warning. I was already in too deep.

And I had no intention of backing down.
