The Billionaire's Deadline Bride

The penthouse was silent. Too silent.

Adrian Vale stormed through the double doors, suit jacket still on, tie loose, eyes blazing. Vanessa Cole looked up from her velvet armchair, perfectly poised, one hand casually resting on the marble countertop of her kitchen island.

"Adrian," she said sweetly, almost teasing. "To what do I owe this unexpected visit?"

"You've been lying to me," he said, voice low but sharp, every word a blade. "I don't care how many photographers you've bribed, how many headlines you've staged... tell me the truth."

Vanessa's lips curved into a slow, dangerous smile. "And what truth would that be?"

"The truth about this," he said, slamming his phone on the counter. The paparazzi photos from the medical clinic scrolled across the screen. Vanessa's hand rested deliberately on her stomach. "The baby. Are you pregnant or aren't you?"

Vanessa tilted her head, the picture of innocence. "Pregnant?" she echoed, drawing out the word as if it were foreign. "Adrian... do you really think I'd lie about something so personal?"

"Yes!" he shouted, making the expensive crystal glasses rattle on the shelves. "I don't trust anything anymore! Every word you've said, every smile in front of the cameras-it's all calculated. And now the board is pressuring me. I don't have time for games!"

Vanessa stood, gliding toward him, dangerous and calm all at once. Her perfume was subtle but commanding, like a warning. "Do you think I care about your empire?" she whispered, stepping close enough that he could feel the heat of her presence. "Of course I do. But don't confuse my ambition with lies. A little... embellishment is necessary in our world. You're lucky I'm not claiming more than I should."

Adrian's fists clenched. "A little embellishment? You're manipulating me. You've staged photos. You've leaked fake news. You're trying to trap me into marriage!"

Vanessa's eyes sparkled with something sharp, cold, and terrifying. "Trap you? Adrian... you don't understand. I'm saving you. The board, the shareholders... your empire-it's fragile. Weak men get destroyed. I'm giving you stability. Security. A future. Are you really going to throw that away over... what? Pride?"

"Over truth!" he barked. "Over lies about a baby I don't even know exists! If you're pregnant, tell me. If you're not... stop pretending! Stop trying to control my life!"

Vanessa's lips twitched. Then she laughed-low, controlled, but almost cruel. "You'll find out soon enough, Adrian. But until then... enjoy the performance. The media loves it, the board loves it, and yes... you will love it too."

"What do you mean I'll love it?" Adrian asked, voice trembling, the weight of fury and fear pressing down.

Vanessa leaned in close. "You'll see. Because this isn't just about me. This is about your inheritance. Your empire. And your choices."

Her phone buzzed. She glanced at it briefly, smiled, and walked past him toward the balcony. Adrian followed, tension coiling tight around him. Outside, the Manhattan skyline glittered deceptively calm. The sun rose over skyscrapers, but in the penthouse, every word Vanessa had spoken burned like fire.

Adrian clenched his jaw. She's lying. She has to be lying.

And yet... the doubt gnawed at him. The photos, the timing, the board's pressure-everything aligned perfectly for her narrative.

He knew one thing for certain:

Vanessa Cole had just declared war.

And he was going to fight back.

But first... he needed to know the truth.

And if she was faking the pregnancy...

Adrian Vale was about to become a storm she wouldn't survive.
