The Billionaire Who Forgot Our Twins

The first morning of Clara Bennett's new life began with the sound of a horn outside her apartment in Sydney's Darling Harbour. She stirred, forcing herself to stay calm. Today, she would officially move in with Ethan Walker.

The reality was... unnerving.

Her twins, Liam and Isla, were wide awake, chattering excitedly in the small apartment. "Mum, are we really going to see Uncle Ethan today?" Isla asked, her green eyes sparkling.

Clara froze. Uncle Ethan. That was what she had instructed them to call him-innocent, careful, not revealing the truth.

"Yes, darling," Clara said, keeping her tone neutral. "But remember, we are not friends yet. He doesn't know us properly."

Liam frowned. "Why doesn't he know us?"

Clara's chest tightened. She kneeled to look at him. "Because... some things are complicated. You'll understand when you're older. For now, we just stay smart and careful."

He nodded solemnly, as if he truly understood. Isla, meanwhile, rolled her eyes dramatically, already scheming ways to charm the man she had never met.

The Arrival at Ethan's Penthouse

By late morning, Clara, the twins, and a small suitcase of essentials arrived at Ethan Walker's penthouse in Barangaroo. The view stretched from the harbour bridge to the Opera House, glinting in the early sunlight. The luxury and scale of the apartment made Clara swallow hard.

Ethan was already waiting. Standing rigidly in a tailored black suit, he exuded the same calm dominance that had unnerved her the day before.

"Clara," he said, acknowledging her with a nod. "And... these are the children?"

"Yes," Clara replied, keeping her voice polite. She stepped forward, placing herself slightly between him and the twins.

Ethan knelt down, studying them carefully. Liam mirrored his father in posture-quiet, cautious, observing every detail. Isla, on the other hand, bounced forward. "Hi! I'm Isla. That's Liam. Are you our dad?"

Clara's stomach clenched. "Isla, remember what we said."

"I know," Isla said, grinning innocently. "I'm just asking!"

Ethan's eyes narrowed, a flicker of recognition-or was it curiosity?-crossing his face. He didn't speak immediately, just observed.

Clara felt a shiver. He's noticing something...

The Rules of Coexistence

Ethan's voice finally broke the silence. "We'll need rules."

Clara raised an eyebrow. "Rules?"

"Yes. You live here. The twins live here. And I want no surprises, no interference, and no drama."

Clara nodded. "Fine. There are rules on my side too." She glanced at the twins. "Listen carefully: do exactly what I say. Understood?"

"Understood," Liam said solemnly. Isla rolled her eyes but nodded, already plotting ways to soften the stern man before them.

Ethan turned his gaze back to Clara. "Good. Then we begin."

And with that, he gestured for them to follow him inside.

First Tensions

Inside the penthouse, the twins immediately explored every corner, while Clara unpacked essentials in the bedroom she had been allocated. Ethan followed her silently, his hands behind his back, watching every move.

"You've organized everything meticulously," he said finally. "I like efficiency."

Clara didn't smile. "I've had to learn fast. Raising twins alone teaches efficiency."

He glanced at the twins, who were now standing near the window, gazing at the harbour. "They're... impressive," he said, as if speaking more to himself than her.

"Thank you," she said carefully, noticing the slight warmth in his tone.

A pause hung between them-filled with unspoken tension, past sins neither acknowledged, and the faint but undeniable attraction simmering beneath their professional exchange.

The Twins Make Their Move

After a quiet lunch, Isla tugged at Ethan's sleeve. "Do you like superheroes?"

He blinked, unsure how to answer. "Superheroes?"

"Yes! You look like one!" she said, pointing at his posture and presence.

Liam, ever the observant one, added quietly, "You know, Dad, you're... tall, quiet, and scary sometimes."

Clara's eyes widened. "Dad?" She shot the twins a warning glance, but it was too late. Ethan's gaze snapped to Liam, confused.

"Dad?" he echoed. His expression was unreadable.

"Yes," Liam said innocently. "Mum says you're our uncle, but I think you're our dad."

Clara felt her stomach drop. Liam had crossed a line, not intentionally, but his words carried the weight of truth. She stepped forward quickly.

"Liam! Stop!" she whispered fiercely.

Ethan's jaw tightened, his eyes narrowing slightly. Something flickered behind them-recognition? Confusion? Or an instinct he didn't understand.

Living Together – A Fragile Balance

The afternoon stretched on with quiet, tense interactions. Clara tried to maintain authority, keeping her twins safe from revealing the truth. Ethan, meanwhile, seemed unusually interested in their behavior, asking subtle questions about routines, habits, and past life.

It was a delicate dance. Every glance, every word had weight.

When the children were finally sent to bed, Clara and Ethan remained in the living room, facing each other across the massive leather sofa.

"You're hiding something," he said, finally breaking the silence.

Clara stiffened. "I'm protecting my children. That's all."

"I can tell it's more than that," he said, leaning forward. "I feel... something. They remind me of someone. Someone I should know."

Clara's heart raced. He's starting to put pieces together...

"I'm sure it's just your imagination," she said calmly, though her fingers tightened on the sofa edge.

He studied her silently. "We'll see."

The First Hint of Danger

Outside, perched in the shadow of the balcony, someone watched. A figure older, cane in hand, expression unreadable, eyes calculating.

The grandfather. His plan was moving perfectly. He had orchestrated the one-night encounter years ago, and now the hero and heroine were dancing right into the trap.

And the twins... the twins were the unwitting catalysts.
