Lawson and I found a rogue werewolf caught in a hunter's trap. As we carefully removed the steel jaws from her leg, a strange thought growled from my wolf, Alex:

My hands froze mid-motion.

I hesitated for a moment, then tilted the rogue’s face toward me, letting my wolf senses take in her scent—a faint mix of wild forest and something sharp, almost metallic.
Lawson’s voice cut through the silence, his alpha aura pressing lightly against me. "Mazie, what are you doing?"
The rogue stirred, her amber eyes fluttering open. They were striking, almost unnaturally so, and her gaze locked onto mine, intense and searching.
She smiled weakly, her voice soft but carrying the faint growl of her wolf. "Thank you for saving me. I owe you my life."
The voice in my head fell silent, replaced by a low, approving rumble from Alex.
Then, inexplicably, a wave of relief washed over me, as if my wolf had settled for the first time since we’d found her.
