He held me in his arms, staring at my parents with anger and suspicion.
When he asked them what happened, they looked away and said nothing.
"If they won’t tell me, then Madeline will," Andrew said gently as he wiped my tears.
"It’s only been one day and my Madeline has become a little kitten."
No, not one day.
Three long years.
Leaning against his chest, I finally felt safe after all the pain I had endured. I took a shaky breath and told him everything.
"After horseback riding, a beggar came and spoke to my parents. They didn’t like her at first, but suddenly they hugged her and said they wanted her to be their adopted daughter. They forced me to hand over the company.”
“I pretended to agree, but then they tried to drug me and let that man hurt me. I didn’t drink it. And you came just in time … "
By the end, I was crying again.
Andrew’s face turned cold.
"Anyone who hurts my Madeline will regret it."
He waved his hand and bodyguards rushed in, eyes fixed on Pamela like blades.
"No, don’t touch Pamela!" my parents cried, standing in front of her to protect her.
Andrew looked shocked.
Pamela stayed calm as she asked, "Don’t you want to know what I told them? Aren’t you curious why one sentence changed everything?"
A chill went through me. I grabbed Andrew’s hand and begged, "Don’t listen to her. Please, take me somewhere safe!"
He gently patted my hand.
"Don’t worry. I’ll hear her out, then take you away. I’ll protect you."
"No-"
But he let go of my hand and walked toward her. Pamela leaned close and whispered something. His face changed instantly.
The way he looked at her was full of surprise and love. Not for me, but for her. Not long after that, he turned to me with only coldness in his eyes.
"Do you think you can compare with Pamela? Your parents are right. You belong here."
He looked at the old widower as he said, "Do what you want. Make sure she never leaves."
My heart dropped. I begged Andrew to remember our past, but he ignored me. He gently held Pamela’s hand and walked away, leaving me behind like I meant nothing.
The old widower began undressing with a disgusting smile. I was trapped again. After that, I heard Pamela outside the caravan, repeating the same four words.
Now, I understood everything.
