Serena POV:
I led my father away from the mansion, his shuffling footsteps crunching on the frozen gravel. He kept apologizing, saying he should have stayed away. I squeezed his hand and didn't let go.
We walked in silence until the estate's lights were distant smears in the darkness. Then I stopped, pulled out my phone, and stared at the screen.
Eight years. Eight years of being invisible. Of cold beds and emptier promises. Of a mate who treated me like a dirty secret and paraded his secretary like a trophy.
The severance form was already drafted in my files. I had written it six months ago, after the miscarriage. I had never had the courage to send it.
Tonight, that coward died.
