OWNED BY THE MOON KING

Chapter 2

Claiming the Bond

The forest was silent now, the only sound her ragged breathing and the distant whisper of leaves swaying under the silver moonlight. Arielle tried to step back, tried to pull herself from the magnetic weight of his presence, but the moment she moved, his eyes-sharp, silver, unyielding-stopped her.

"You can't run from this," he said, his voice low, smooth, and filled with something she couldn't name. Possession, maybe. Desire. Command. All rolled into one. "The moon has chosen you, Arielle. And I... I will claim you."

Her stomach churned. "Claim me?" she whispered, voice trembling. The word sounded wrong, dangerous, but it ignited something deep within her chest. Fear mingled with a strange, irresistible pull. "I'm not... not yours."

He smiled-not kindly. Not gently-but like a predator aware of its prey. "Oh, you are," he murmured, stepping closer. Every movement was deliberate, controlled. The air between them thickened, charged with energy she could feel vibrating through her skin. "The bond has awakened. It's in your blood, your scent, your very heartbeat. You belong to me whether you want it or not."

Arielle's eyes widened as she took an involuntary step closer, drawn by the invisible tether that wrapped around her soul. Her hands clenched at her sides, fingernails digging into her palms, trying to fight the pull. But the more she struggled, the stronger it seemed, the deeper it sank its roots.

"You don't understand," she whispered, voice barely audible. Her heart pounded-not just from fear, but from the heat radiating off him. Every fiber of her being screamed at her to resist, yet every instinct told her to stay, to lean into him, to accept the impossible.

He reached out then, brushing a strand of her hair from her face, and the touch-so soft, so deliberate-sent shivers cascading down her spine. She caught the faint scent of him again: night, earth, something wild, untamed, intoxicating. It wrapped around her senses like smoke, and for a brief, dangerous moment, she forgot to breathe.

"The moon does not make mistakes," he said, voice dipping lower, almost reverent. "And the bond... it does not lie. You are mine. From this moment, your life, your fate, your heart-everything-belongs to me."

Arielle's knees threatened to buckle. Her mind screamed, telling her to run, to flee, to tear herself away. But her body refused. She felt his hand hover near her neck, just above the crescent mark the moon had left on her skin. Her pulse raced. Her blood seemed to hum. The connection between them tightened, a living chain that pulled at her very soul.

"You will try to resist," he said, eyes glinting with dark amusement. "And I will allow it... for a time. But understand this, Arielle: the moon will always find a way. And I..." He paused, letting his words sink into the marrow of her bones, "...I never lose what is mine."

The words dripped over her like molten silver, both terrifying and... exhilarating. A part of her-small, hidden, daring-longed to see if it were true. Could he really own her? Could she surrender without fear and find herself alive, intact, somehow... fulfilled?

"You..." she whispered, voice trembling. "You're... you're cruel."

He leaned closer, the air thick with their mingling scents, and his smile curved. "No, Arielle. I am... inevitable."

Her mind reeled, but there was no escaping. The forest, the moon, the wolves lurking in the shadows-all of it paled against the force of his presence. The bond pulsed, tugging at her heart, her blood, her very soul. And in that moment, she understood: the Moon King was not just claiming her body. He was staking a claim on her destiny.

And though she should have run... she didn't.
