Chapter 1 of Once In Loved, Now Taking Revenge
“Fuck you, Sir Lorde. You ruined me.”
The man who took my virginity. Tears blurred my vision as I stared down at the dark stain on my skirt. Blood. It had already dried, but I could still feel the pain, the violation, the disgust crawling under my skin.
My singer career debut night should have been the happiest moment of my life. Instead, it became my worst nightmare. I let out a broken laugh, my voice shaking as I whispered his name, hating how easily it slipped from my lips. The producer who had promised to make me a star. The same man who had stolen everything from me.
My phone suddenly vibrated, snapping me back to reality. I glanced at the screen—Kate. My best friend. For a brief moment, I hesitated. Should I tell her? Should I finally let everything out? My fingers reached for the phone, but before I could grab it, it slipped from my grasp, landing somewhere on the passenger seat.
“Damn it.” I blindly reached for it, my focus drifting from the road. And that was my mistake.
A deafening crash. The violent force of impact. The sound of shattering glass. Pain exploded in my skull as my body lurched forward. My seatbelt tightened around my chest, knocking the breath out of me. I barely had time to process what happened before something sharp pierced my skin. My vision blurred as tiny shards of glass lodged into my eyes. Then, everything went dark.
A sharp, sterile scent filled my nose when I woke up. My head throbbed, and when I tried to open my eyes, all I saw was a blurry mess of white. A hospital. I was still alive. But I didn’t stay conscious for long.
Weeks passed before I was finally discharged. My eyesight had recovered—thankfully—but I made a choice. I decided to keep it a secret from James, my fiancé.
For years, I had heard whispers—rumors that James had a hand in my parents’ deaths. And after everything that had happened, I couldn’t ignore the doubts creeping into my mind. If I pretended to still be blind, maybe I could finally uncover what he had been hiding from me all along.
The wedding, which had been scheduled right after my accident, was postponed. James was concerned. I can't lie, we've been together for a frw years before my parents forced me to say yes for James's proposal. Even though, they knew I was in the middle of pursuing my career.
I actually have no plans that time ‘cause I was still young—I'm in my 20's. I needed to pursue my dreams.
Kate, ever the supportive best friend, was the one who took me home. But the moment we stepped inside, my heart shattered. There, right in front of me, was James. His lips pressed against Kate’s.
My best friend. My fiancé. TOGETHER.
They didn’t know I could see them. They thought I was blind. I wanted to scream, to lash out, to demand answers. But I didn’t. Instead, I swallowed the lump in my throat and forced myself to keep up the lie. I pretended not to see. I pretended I was still blind. Because if they could lie to me, I could lie to them too.
Days turned into weeks. I was exhausted—physically, emotionally. Then, one morning, nausea hit me like a wave. I barely made it to the bathroom before vomiting everything in my stomach. It kept happening. Over and over. A sinking feeling settled in my gut as I grabbed a pregnancy test. The result?
POSITIVE.
I was pregnant. But not with James’ child. My entire body trembled as I stared at the test. I had tried so hard to erase that night from my memory, to pretend it never happened. But now, it was impossible to ignore. The baby growing inside me wasn’t James’. It was his. The man who had raped me. I felt sick all over again.
Apart from that, I am afraid that it may caused the pharmaceutical business to fall down.
Months passed, and I continued my act. Until James saw my growing belly, letting him believe the baby was his. He was happy. Good thing, there was one night we shared a heat together. Not long ago. But I told him to use protection.
Then came the day I went into labor. Kate was the one who stayed by my side in the operating room despite being eight months pregnant herself. It was ironic, really. The same woman who had betrayed me was the one holding my hand as I brought a child into the world. But what choice did I have?
James couldn't attend, he was busy for his upcoming huge project in the company.
The pain was unbearable. The hours blurred together. And then… nothing. When I woke up, the first thing I saw was Kate. Her face was pale, her hands shaking.
My stomach twisted with unease as I struggled to sit up. “W-Where’s my baby?” My voice was barely a whisper.
Kate hesitated. Then, she looked at me with tear-filled eyes. “Zoey… the baby didn’t make it.” I froze.
The words didn’t make sense. They didn’t register.
Gone? Just like that?
A hollow laugh escaped me. It was strange, the mix of emotions swirling inside me. Relief. Guilt. Pain. The child was never James’, but it was still mine. It will really hurt me if I aborted the child. And now, it was gone before I could even decide what to do. Then my phone rang. James’ name flashed on the screen. I hesitated before answering.
“James—"
“Zoey, what the hell did you do?!” His voice was full of rage. My heart pounded.
“I-I'm sorry. But it wasn't yours. I was... raped the day I debut as a singer. I-I'm sorry..."
“But still our baby is dead! You let our baby die!” I flinched at the venom in his words. But something didn’t add up. He wasn’t just angry—he was furious.
Not over my supposed betrayal. Not over my lost virginity. But over the baby. Why? A chilling realization settled over me. There was something else James wasn’t telling me.
