Never Again be Their Family, in This Life or the Next

My sister, Elvira Davis, called me a jinx for ten years.

Because the moment I, the real heir, returned home, the company went bankrupt, our parents jumped to their deaths and my sister attempted suicide countless times.

But when I suffered a heart attack from exhaustion, it was her who lay in the hospital bed and donated the heart that saved my life.

"Shawn, please live well, just don't come back to disrupt our lives in the next life."

As the anesthesia took effect, I watched helplessly as my sister was wheeled into the operating room.

During the operation, I suffered a rejection reaction and stopped breathing.

When I opened my eyes again, I was back to the day the butler came knocking.

I shook my head and saluted, "Thank you for your kindness, but I was raised by the state. Now it's time for me to repay it."

——

The butler stared at me as if I were some kind of monster.

He never imagined anyone would turn down a life of luxury for such a reason.

"The Davis Family is the wealthiest in this city. Do you realize what you're giving up?"

I shook my head. If they were truly the wealthiest family, why would they send a butler to fetch me?

They probably never expected me to show up at all.

It was such a pity that I had to be reincarnated to truly understand.

I refused repeatedly, even writing the butler a written pledge that I would never covet the Davis Family's wealth again before finally shaking him off.

I breathed a sigh of relief and slowly made my way back to the orphanage.

After the college entrance exams, I worked delivering food and saved up quite a bit.

I could buy the kids a few stuffed animals and even get the teacher some hand cream.

But just as I reached the entrance, I saw a figure standing there, looking so lively.

It was my sister.

"Shawn Davis, I'm warning you, don't say anything out of line when we get home.”

“Especially not to Gayle, he's the most important person in this house."

Her words struck me like a bolt from the blue, leaving me stunned and rooted to the spot. So, my sister had reincarnated too.

I swallowed the bitter lump in my throat and shook my head in refusal. "You've mistaken me for someone else. My name is Shawn Holmes."

"And I don't know you. Please leave."

My sister glanced at me, clearly unconvinced by my words. "What trick are you trying now? Playing hard to get?"

"Then you've got the wrong idea. Our parents still don't know you exist. In their hearts, Gayle is their own flesh and blood."

Hearing this, I couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

This was for the best. At least I wouldn't have to bear the consequences of the Davis Family's karma in this lifetime.

Whether it was the Davis Family's bankruptcy or my sister's life, none of it had anything to do with me anymore.

At that thought, my heart suddenly felt lighter. "Excuse me... Sister? Is there anything else you need?"

"If not, please don't stand here blocking the way. There's heavy traffic here and it's easy for accidents to happen."

After a brief farewell, my sister and I passed each other by.

At the orphanage, the little kids playing in the mud spotted me and excitedly gathered around.

"Brother Shawn! You're back!"

"Did your family come looking for you? Are you leaving us..."

Feeling my sister's gaze on me, I shook my head. "They're all dead. You are my family now."

Ignoring her stiffened body, I took the little ones' muddy hands and led them inside.

"Look what I brought you today. You've been begging for snacks forever, so today we'll sneak as many as we want!"

Laughter and cheer echoed through the orphanage.

I'd never felt so happy in my life.
